1 . Going to museums is one of the ways for us to entertain (使快乐) ourselves. But should museums charge a fee (收费)?

Museums are there for enjoyment and they are for education as well. We can gain a lot of knowledge about history and art by visiting museums. Everyone should be able to visit and learn from it. If entry fees are charged, not everyone will be able to afford them.

Also, some people have pointed out that museums can attract more visitors if they are free to visit. When people have to pay for tickets, they often choose to go to the movies or go shopping instead.

However, others argue that museums should not be free to visit. The maintenance fees that come from protecting paintings and valuable exhibits can be very high. The money that is made from selling tickets can be used to pay these fees. Also, museums are places for people to get knowledge and enrich themselves. They’re not just tourist attractions for people to visit and take pictures at. Chen Dong, a worker in a city museum, “People will value the special opportunities (机会) if they have to pay for their visits.”

To sum it up, although there are clear arguments on both sides, I think museums should be free. At the end of the day, the most important function of museums is to spread culture and knowledge. Local governments or organizationss can take responsibility to provide museums with financial support (资金支持).

1. What does visiting a museum bring us?
A.Enjoyment and knowledge.B.Pressure and knowledge.
C.Enjoyment and choices.D.A large fee.
2. The underlined words “maintenance fees” in the fourth paragraph mean ________ in Chinese.
A.赞助费B.生活开支C.门票收人D.维护费用
3. Chen Dong thinks that people can ________ if they pay for their visits.
A.care about the chances to visitB.get something special
C.learn much knowledgeD.get more chances to visit
4. What’s the best title for the passage?
A.Is Visiting a Museum Helpful?B.Should Museums Charge a Fee?
C.What Do You Learn from Visiting a Museum?D.How Can You Choose a Museum to Visit?

Let’s sit in the “Green” seats!

Are you looking forward to next year’s Olympic Games? Paris 2024 promises to be a “green” event. Its organizers have found a new way of going green: In some of the venues (场馆) in Seine-Saint-Denis (塞纳—圣但尼省), about 11,000 seats are made from recycled plastic.

The seats were produced by recycling company Lemon Tri and a few partners (合作伙伴). They collected plastic waste and turned it into small pieces. These pieces were then mixed together and heated. After that, they were compressed (压缩) in machines. The results was black or white plastic sheets with flecks (斑点) of color. These sheets were then sanded (打磨), cut and assembled (组装) into seats.

Are these seats of good quality (质量), you may ask? Don’t worry! A number of tests have been carried out on them. There were a UV resistance (抗紫外线) test, a fire resistance test, and more. People will be able to sit safely in the chairs and enjoy the excitement of the game!

The seats were made from about 100 tons of plastic waste. About 80 percent of the plastic came from local recycling bins (箱). Local schools also collected about five million colored soda bottle caps and they were used in the making of the seats.

The seats not only help the environment, but also educate people about recycling.

Augustin Jaclin is the co-founder of Lemon Tri. “Our kids put their bottles in the bins,” he said. “Next year, they’ll sit on the seats made from these bottles. This will teach them to recycle more in their daily lives!”

1. Why is the Paris 2024 Olympics a green event?

文章大意:本文主要介绍了手写和打字的利弊。
3 . 阅读短文,然后根据内容回答问题。

The earliest form of writing appeared about 5,500 years ago. In the past, handwriting was an important subject in school. Now, many students sometimes do homework on a computer and hand in their tasks online. Many people think typing (打字) is quick and easy to read, while writing by hand may take longer than typing. But others say writing with a pen and paper is more valuable. Writing by hand has big advantages.

Research shows that when we write down ideas with a pen or pencil, we make the brain active to help us learn, remember and think. Writing by hand lets people show their creativity. No two people have the same handwriting. Writing by hand can also help people concentrate (集中注意力). When using a computer, people can go online or play computer games easily.

Handwriting may be pretty, however, people can get their ideas and thoughts down more quickly when they type. Typing can also make it easier for people to change. Once something is written by hand, you can’t delete (删除) it. If you want to make a change, you have to write it all over again. What’s more, some people’s handwriting may be hard to read. Typing makes everything clear, and no one will have to worry about their words being clear enough.

1. When did people begin to write?
____________________________________________
2. How is the brain when we write by hand?
____________________________________________
3. How many advantages of typing are mentioned in Paragraph 3?
____________________________________________
4. If you need to write a report, will you type or write it by hand? Why? (Write 30 words or more).

文章大意:本文主要介绍了当今人们为了追求时尚过一种不健康的生活方式,个人的价值不是由你的外表决定的,而是由你这个人决定的。健康的生活才是最重要的。

4 . Have you ever thought about what’s more important, looking fashionable or feeling comfortable? You might have noticed many people choosing style over comfort and some even go to extremes (极端) to follow fashion. But we should remember: being fashionable isn’t everything. It’s more important to be healthy.

Some people believe that they need to be a certain size to look good. So, they start extreme diets (日常饮食) that are not good for their health. They might not eat meals or eat too little, which can make them feel sick. Is it a healthy way to live?

Also, many girls wear shoes with very high heels (鞋跟). They might think high heels make them look taller. But these shoes may hurt their feet and make it hard to walk comfortably, and it can increase risks of falls. Some even wear tight (紧的) clothes that influence blood circulation (循环), making it hard to breathe (呼吸). Should we put fashion over comfort and physical health?

Besides, some boys and girls spend a lot of time and money changing their hair color. The things they use is usually harmful to their health. To make their hair straight or curly, they also use tools that are hot enough to burn their hair. But using these tools too often or at very high temperatures can make the hair dry or even burnt. Is it really worth it to risk our health, spending so much time and money?

So, let’s rethink what’s really important. Is it fashion or is it our well-being? Clothes or hairstyles don’t tell us anything about a person’s character. Instead of spending a lot of time choosing clothes, we could use that time to do fun things with friends. And instead of following extreme diets, let’s eat properly and exercise more. Remember, your value is not decided by what you look like, but by who you are as a person.

1. Why do some people go on extreme diets according to the passage?
A.Because the diets are healthy.B.Because they just want to look good.
C.Because they want to save time.D.Because they want to save money.
2. What is the writer’s purpose of using a question in each paragraph?

5 . Eco-friendly Lifestyle in Denmark

Denmark is one of the greenest countries in the world. People there are trying their best to make their country more beautiful.

People in Denmark take recycling seriously. Newspapers are printed on recycled paper.

Stores collect a deposit every time you buy a bottled drink. When you return the empty bottle, you get your deposit back. The bottle will be cleaned and reused. To reduce food waste, there is a food waste supermarket where people can buy the nearly-expired food at a low price. Even old clothes and shoes can be recycled. There are some organizations for recycling clothes. They collect old clothes from all over the country. Some of the clothes are sold in charity shops, some are given to the poor, and others are sent to factories for recycling.

Cycling has always been a Danish tradition. The government encourages the use of bicycles instead of cars. There are good bicycle paths with road signs and traffic lights all over the country. In the capital city Copenhagen, there are over 2, 000 bicycles that can be borrowed for free in public squares and train stations. Don’t be surprised if you find fewer cars on road because cars are heavily taxed in Denmark.

Denmark is starting to use energy from the sun, wind and water. For example, Denmark has been a wind energy leader for a long time. Nearly 42 percent of Denmark’s electricity is produced by wind power. These new types of energy cost very little and will never run out. Moreover, they produce little pollution.

How to be green

By Wang Lingling

How green are you? Answer these questions and find out.

·Do you walk or ride a bike to school?

·Do you buy new clothes just because they are modern?

·Do you turn off the lights when you leave the room?

·Do you take your own bag when shopping and not ask for a plastic bag?

·Do you buy drinks in bottles? And what do you do with the bottles when they are empty?

·Do you divide the waste into things to recycle and things to throw away?

We all need a healthy environment, but we produce waste every day, and it is harmful to our environment. Repeat these three words daily: reduce, reuse and recycle.

Reduce

Reduce means “use less” . Do not waste things. It saves money and causes less pollution. Do not order more food than you can finish. Turn off the lights when you do not need them. Before you buy something new, think whether it is really necessary because maybe the old one is just as good!

Reuse

Reuse means “use again”. Use things for as long as possible. Look after them so that they will last. Repair them if possible. Do not throw them away and buy new ones. Do not use paper cups or paper bags. It is better to use china cups and cloth bags because they can be used many times. Recycle Recycle means “change things into something else to be reused” Although it takes energy to change things into something else, it is better than throwing things away or burning them. We throw tons of rubbish away each year, and we have to make a change. Divide your rubbish into plastic, glass, paper and rubber. Develop a recycling policy for the whole community. Buy products such as recycled paper to help save trees.

We cannot hope for rapid change, but let’s take these simple steps today so that we will save the world for our grandsons and granddaughters tomorrow.

1. Why does the writer say “Repeat these three words daily: reduce, reuse and recycle.” in Paragraph 2?
________________________________________________
2. How can we use things as long as possible?
________________________________________________
3. What does the “simple steps” refer to?

4. Do you think it is necessary for us to learn how to be green? Why or why not? Write 30 words or more.

文章大意:本文主要介绍了如何在学习中取得成功。

8 . ①Everyone wants to be successful in their study. But how to do that? Here are a few things you can do to make yourself successful.

Make your study a priority. Successful students always make study their priority. That is, they always put their study before other activities. If you have an important exam and feel not well prepared, you should probably give up the big party two days before it. This doesn’t mean you can never do things you like, but you should always put study at the top of your to-do list.

Work honestly. This means you should work on your own and avoid copying or cheating. Cheating won’t get you anywhere. It may seem like a shortcut at first, but will finally get you into trouble in your study. When it comes to life, this can lead to some bad influence on you.

Stay focused (专注的). Successful students stay focused on the task. Once you start working, get rid of your phone, your TV, storybooks, etc. If you need to study for a long time, for example, one hour or so, you can take a break to refresh your mind. But the break does not have to be long —5 to 10 minutes is enough. Don’t turn it into an hour long break with only 10 minutes of studying.

If you want to be successful, you should ask questions when you have them as well as answer your teacher’s questions. Be an active member of group activities. Taking notes is also important. Not only will taking notes help you study later, but doing so will also keep you engaged in the classroom. Taking notes can help you have a better understanding of what you’re learning as well.

文章大意:本文主要介绍了环境5R规则。

9 . It is important to learn how to protect our environment. Here is a 5R rule for us.

Reduce: If you want to reduce the waste, you should use things wisely. A large number of trees are cut down to make paper. If everyone uses paper wastefully, soon we would not have any trees left. So it is necessary to reduce the waste.

Reuse: You should always think of reusing the able things before throwing them away. For example, we should buy reusable forks and knives instead of ones we throw away. Bring cups to the coffee shop and cloth bags to the store. Give your clothes you do not use or the ones which are too small to the poor. In a family, you may pass on such clothes to younger brothers or sisters.

Recycle: Recycling uses less energy and fewer resources (资源). Bottles, cans (罐子) and paper cups can be easily recycled. They can be remade into the same thing or new things.

Recover: When you buy a box of apples, there may be a few rotten (腐烂的) ones, you have two choices: one is to throw the whole apple away, or you could cut off the rotten parts and eat the good parts. In this way, you are recovering the eatable parts of food.

Repair: If one of the legs of your table is broken, you can repair it. If you want to change for better ones, it is better for you to sell the old things or give them to other people who can use them after repairing them.

Learn the rules to protect our environment. Let’s try our best to make the earth cleaner and more beautiful.
