1 . Hobbies can be anything. They let you be creative and try all kinds of new things. But how to pick a hobby?
Think back to what you loved as a kid.
Did you like to ride bikes with friends? Did you love to paint or draw? Think about what got you excited as a kid and what you could do for several hours. If you rode bikes, why not get a new bike and go around your neighborhood? If you loved drawing, take a class at an art museum.
Look at what interests you.
Do you enjoy reading books? Maybe you want to try your hand at writing them. Do you like a cold beer at the end of the day? Maybe your hobby could be trying to make beer at home. Turn what you love into a hobby.
Look into your skill.
Some hobbies need skills. If you have little patience, you may not enjoy hand-sewing. But if you love repairing and building things, you can have a hobby like working on old radios or building furniture.
Pay attention to what excites you.
What you often talk about can show what you love most. Think about the topics you always go on about. Ask your friends what you talk about most. Then you can decide how to turn it into a hobby.

But his mother put the food at the top of the mountain and then looked down at her baby. The baby eagle cried out. “Mum, why did you do this to me? I’m hungry. Don’t you know I will die if I have nothing to eat?”
“Here is the last meal I give you. Come and get it by yourself.” his mother said. Then she flew down and pushed the baby eagle out of the nest. The baby eagle fell down, faster and faster. He looked up at his mum, “Why do you abandon me?” He looked down at the earth. The ground was much closer. Then something strange happened. The air caught behind his arms and he began to fly! He wasn’t moving to the ground any more. Instead, his eyes were pointed up at the sun.

Babies can point at things. They’re using sign language. A policeman who wants to stop the traffic holds up his hand. He’s using sign language, too.
Sign language is a bridge between the deaf and non-disabled people. They use the movement of the hand, arms or body to express a speaker’s thoughts.
Today, in many countries, there are special TV news programs for deaf people. The news reporter tells the news in sign language. At the same time, the words appear on the TV screen. The actors in the theater for the deaf often use their hands to show what they want to say. They can make a roof with their hands over their heads when they want to show “house”. 8 . Minoru Yamasaki was a well-known American architect (建筑师). He was born in 1912 in Seattle, Washington. His parents came from Japan. Minoru went to college to study architecture. Every summer he worked in a fish factory to help pay for college. Often he worked from four o'clock in the morning until midnight. He slept in a room with 100 other men. Later in life, Yamasaki remembered these times and was always good to his workers.
Yamasaki sometimes dreamed about his work. Once he woke up at three o’clock in the morning. He remembered a building that was in his dream. He got up and started to draw. Yamasaki used a new design(设计) for the buildings. These buildings are now the Century Plaza Hotel, and Tower in Los Angeles, California.
Yamasaki was different from other architects. His buildings give people a feeling of peace(和平) and happiness. Many of his designs have pools of water, flowers, and windows on the roof to let in light. He always designed buildings to please people. He wanted to give them a place away from the busy ways of modern life.
Yamasaki worked for several companies. But his success began when he started his own company. In 1956, he won the Architect’s First Honor Award for his design of an airport in St. Louis, Missouri. He won two more awards (奖)over the next five years. In 1962, he designed the World Trade Center in New York. It is very famous.

The first Laughter Club was started in Mumbai, India, in 1995, by Dr Madan Kataria. “Children laugh about 300 times a day. Adults laugh between 7 and 15 times a day,” says Dr Kataria. “Everyone’s naturally good at laughing — it’s the universal (共同的) language.” There are now more than 500 Laughter Clubs in India and over 1,300 worldwide.
Many doctors are also interested in the effects of laughter on our health. According to a 5-year study at the UCLS School of Medicine in California, with laughing there is less stress in the body. Laughter improves our health against illness by about 40%.
So what happens at a Laughter Club? I went along to the nearest club in the south of London to find out. I was quite nervous at the beginning of the class. I had no interest in laughing with a group of strangers, and I was worried about looking stupid (愚蠢的). Our laughter teacher told us to clap our hands (拍手) and say “ho ho ho, ha ha ha” while looking at each other. Although we couldn’t tell the differences between fake laughter and real laughter, they still produced the same healthy effects.
Surprisingly, it worked! After ten minutes, everybody there was laughing for real and some people just couldn’t stop! At the end of the class I was shocked by how relaxed and comfortable I felt. So if you’re under stress, then start laughing.

10 . How good projects grow
ARE you interested in project(项目,课题) and want to have a good one? Well, that doesn’t come easily. You need to do the following tasks:
TALK: You and your classmates discuss in detail(详细地) all that you would like to do to reali ze (实现)your project.
WRITE: One of your classmates acts as (担任)secretary(秘书) . He or she keeps full notes as your group discusses. Later he or she will sort (整理)your ideas to make them better.
PLAN: With the secretary’s notes, your group makes a list of everything you’ll need and who will get, do or research what.
DO: Each group member gets, does and researches something on the list. Your group puts together all you have found and tried to make the project more well-organized. You prepare (准备)to present(展示) it in class.
SHOW: You and your classmates show the world the result of your hard work.
Knowing all the above , you may want to try a project. Why not start with this: you can find out more about the history of your city. What did it look like? Which famous people lived there?
