What are the cultural differences between China and the West? You might be able to find the answer in Cao Siyu’s comics(漫画). Cao, 32, was born in Beijing, but left home at 20 and has studied and lived in the US, the UK, and France for 12 years. Having seen so many cultures, Cao wanted to use her drawing sills to show the differences she has experienced. So she created the cartoon series Tiny Eyes Comics.

“My experience shows that although travel is much easier and faster today, the distance(距离) between cultures hasn’t shortened,” Cao said. She hopes to build bridges and break down misunderstandings between different cultures. One of her cartoons shows water forms in different countries. Three glasses of water are shown. The glass of water from the US has ice; the one from France is full of sparkling water(气泡水); the one from China is steaming(冒热气的).

Cao also uses her cartoons to show different ways of thinking and social customs. During the COVID﹣19 pandemic, she used her comics to explain why Chinese people prefer to wear masks while western people don’t. “Her simple pictures have played a big part in reflecting Chinese culture,” Italian magazine Grazia reported.

6 . The human brain weighs about 1.4 kilograms, but it can hold much more information than most computers. However, there is another difference between human brains and computers. Computers don’t forget information they are given, but humans often do. No one remembers everything, and luckily we don’t usually have to. But everyone can improve their memories if they want to. Here are some suggestions.

Try to use new information immediately. For example, if you meet someone who says “Hi! I’m Carlos”, don’t just say “hello”. Repeat the person’s name and say “Hello, Carlos”.

Break a big number into small parts. For example, it’s hard to remember 109244153. But if you break it into three parts—109/244/153, it will become easier.

Write down what you need to remember over and over again. This will help you keep it in mind longer, especially when memorizing formulas or facts.

Always review information. If you bring what you’ve learned back to your mind, it’ll become easier to remember. For example, before you go to sleep, it’s a good idea to review the new things you’ve learned that day.

Discuss things with friends. It is always easier to remember things through discussions. You can have a discussion about what’s right or wrong, and it will lead to the right answer.

Buy a Present for Her

Most children don’t know what their mom’s favorite thing is. You do? Then, what are you waiting for? Buy her something she likes. The best time to give her that is while she is sleeping at night. Put it on the table next to her so that she’ll be surprised to see it when she wakes up.

Share Sweet Moments

Our mothers have special memories in mind. It is the time that they gave birth to their healthy babies. How about you? What’s your best moment with her? Maybe you can tell her how happy you were when she looked after you during your terrible days in your life.

10 . Many people say dolphins are intelligent. They seem to be able to think, understand and learn things quickly. But are they as smart as humans, or are they more like cats and dogs? Dolphins use their brains quite differently from the way humans do. But scientists say dolphins and humans are very similar in some ways. How?

Like humans, every dolphin has its own “name”. The name is a special whistle(哨声). Each dolphin chooses a specific(特有的)whistle for itself, usually by its first birthday. Dolphins are like people in other ways, too. They “talk” to each other about a lot of things-such as their ages, their feelings, and finding food. They also use a system of sounds and body language                    to communicate. Understanding dolphin conversation is not easy for humans. No one “speaks dolphin” yet, but some scientists are trying to learn.

Dolphins are also social animals. They live in groups called pods, and they often join others from different pods to play games and have bin—just like people. Scientists believe playing together is something only intelligent animals do.

Dolphins and humans are similar in another way: both species make plans for getting things they want. In the seas of southern Brazil, for example dolphins use an intelligent plan to get food. When there are fish near a boat, dolphins signal(发信号)to the fishermen to put their nets in the water. Using this method, the men can catch a lot of fish. Why do dolphins help the men? There is an advantage for them: they get to eat some of the fish that escape(逃脱)from the net.

1. What is a dolphin’s “name”?
A.It is a kind of game.B.It is a body sign.
C.It is a dolphin’s age.D.It is a specific sound.
2. What does the underlined word “others” refer to?
A.Other fishes.B.Other people.C.Other dolphins.D.Other games.
3. What can we infer(推断)from the passage?
A.Some scientists can understand dolphins system of sounds.
B.Dolphins probably help fishermen by using their body language.
C.Humans join dolphins’ groups to get things we want.
D.Dolphins can talk to humans about their age and their feelings.
4. What’s the main idea of the passage?
A.Dolphins can communicate with each other at birth
B.Dolphins are social animals because they play together
C.Dolphins are smart and are like humans in some ways.
D.Dolphins help humans do many things like catching fish
5. Where can you most probably see the reading material?
A.In a science magazineB.In a guidebook
C.In a storybook.D.In a report card
