Can dolphins(海豚) talk? Maybe they cannot talk with words, but they can talk with sounds. They show their feelings with sounds. Dolphins travel in a group. We call a group of fish a “school”. They do not study, but they travel together. Dolphins are mammals(哺乳动物), not fish, but they swim together like fish in a school. Dolphins talk to the other dolphins in the school. They give information to the others. They talk when they are happy, sad or afraid. They say “welcome” when a dolphin comes back to the school. They talk when they play.

They make some sounds above water. They make many more sounds under water. People cannot hear these sounds because they are very, very high. Scientists make tapes of the sounds and study them. Sometimes people catch dolphins for a large aquarium(水族宫). People can watch dolphins in a show. Dolphins do not like to be away from their school in an aquarium. They are sad and lonely. There are many stories about dolphins. They help people. Sometimes they save somebody’s life. Dolphins’ meat is good, but people do not like to kill them. They say that dolphins bring good luck. Many people believe this.

Let me tell you something about sharks. Sharks are among the oldest animals in the world. There are over four hundred and forty different kinds of sharks in the world. Whale sharks are about twelve metres long and live in the ocean.

Sharks can smell something in the water, for example, the blood of animals. That helps them find their food. Sharks mainly eat fish, other sharks and plants in the ocean.

Most sharks bite (咬) people by mistake. They think a person is a large sea animal. When the sun rises or goes down, sharks are looking for food. So at that time people shouldn’t go swimming in the ocean.

Today people kill sharks for food and their fins. The number of sharks in the world is dropping fast.

3 . Do you know why different animals or pests (害虫) have their special colors? Colors in them seem to be used mainly to protect themselves.

Some birds like eating locusts (蝗虫). But birds cannot easily catch them. Why? It is because locusts change their colors together with the change of the colors of crops. When crops are green, locusts look green. But as the harvest time comes, locusts change to the same brown color as crops have. Some other pests with different colors from plants are easily found and eaten by others. So they have to hide themselves for lives and appear only at night.

If you study the animal life, you’ll find the main use of coloring is protecting themselves. Bears, tigers and other animals move quietly through forests. They cannot be seen by hunters. This is because they have the colors much like the trees.

Have you ever noticed an even stranger act? An octopus (章鱼) can send out a kind of very black liquid when it faces danger. While the liquid spreads over, the enemies cannot find it. And it immediately swims away. So it has lived up to now though it isn’t strong at all.

4 . Many people (人们) like to travel (旅行) by plane, but I don’t like it because an airport (飞机场) is usually far from the city. You have to get there early and wait for (等待) hours for the plane to take off (起飞) and it is often late. You can’t open the windows. You can’t choose (选择) the food. Planes are fast, but they still take hours to go out of the airport and into the city.

I like traveling by train. I think trains are safe. Railway stations are usually in cities. When you are late (晚的) for a train, you can catch another one. You can walk around in the train and open the windows. You can see many interesting things on your way. I know it takes a little more time.

I also like cars. You can start your journey (旅行) when you want to, and you don’t need to get to a railway station or a bus stop. Also you can carry many things with you in a car. But sometimes there are too many cars on the road.

6 . In China, there are many different kinds of food. Some of them are very popular. Dumplings are the real Chinese food. Now let’s talk about them, OK?

Everyone in China likes dumplings very much, and there are many different kinds of dumplings. Some have meat and vegetables in them, others have sugar (糖), eggs and so on. I like dumplings with vegetables and pork best.

Usually people make dumplings at home. If you have no time to make them, you can buy them in any supermarkets. Then you take them home and eat them with vinegar (醋).

The Spring Festival is very important in China. When it comes, we make dumplings, usually we put a coin (硬币) into a dumpling. If one eats the dumpling with the coin in it, he will be lucky in the year.

9 . Welcome to your future life!

You get up in the morning and look into the mirror. You look young. In 2035, many people can live to be about 150 years old. So at the age of 40, you’re not old at all. And your parents look the same age as you!

You say to your shirt, “Turn red.” It changes from blue to red. In 2035, “smart clothes” can change the color and style as you like. You walk into the kitchen. You pick up the milk, but you hear the voice, “You shouldn’t drink that!” Your fridge remembers the information about the milk. It knows that the milk is not fresh. In 2035, every household appliance(家用电器) is like your secretary(秘书).

It’s time to go to work. In 2035, cars drive themselves. Just tell your “smart car” where to go. On the way, you can call a friend with your watch. Such “smart technology” is all around you.

So will all these things come true? “All these things will come true, even better.” says a scientist.

I couldn’t agree more with the scientist. I am looking forward to the new life.

10 . It’s important for us to be healthy. Everybody wants to be healthy. But how can we keep healthy? Here is some useful advice.

First, you should eat fruit and vegetables three or four times a week. There are some kinds of vitamins our bodies need. We should not eat too much meat. Then eat some tofu every day because it’s good for people, both the young and the old. Milk is also necessary(必要的), especially for women. So you should have milk twice a day. It can help you to be strong. Next, doing more exercise is better. You can do morning exercises or evening exercises. After supper you should take a walk.
