1 . A school bus is used to take children to and from school. In the USA, about 350, 000 school buses take more than 25 million children to and from school. Yellow became the color of school buses in the USA in 1939. Dr. Frank got the good idea. He said it was easy for people to see yellow buses and the black letters on them in early morning or late afternoon. That would make children safer.
There are not many school buses in Britain, and they are not yellow. They have trackers(追踪器)on them. The trackers let parents know where the school bus is and whether their kids are on the bus.
Kindergarten(幼儿园)is a difficult time for some kids. It’s the first time for them to go away from their parents. To make kids love their school, Japanese kindergartens and schools have colorful buses. 2 . New York is a very large city with 8 million people. How do so many people move about the city on their way to work and school? So, we should know something about its transportation.
In New York you can travel about the city by subway, bus, taxi and car. The subway runs on the railroad lines under the city. It crosses the city at different points and goes to all parts of the city. Traveling by subway is the fastest way to get around the city.

You can also travel around the city by taxi. This is the most expensive way, but the taxi will take you to the very place you wish to go to. If traffic is heavy, the taxi will be slow. During the mornings and afternoons, this is the “rush hour”. This is the time when the traffic is very heavy with people going to and from work.
The last way to get around New York is using your own car. However(但是), it's not easy for you to drive, especially (尤其是) when you are driving in the “rush hour”. If there is an accident (交通事故) on the road, you will have to wait for a long time.

The rock is popularly known as“Krishna's Butter Ball,” which means a favorite food, butter, fallen from the sky. The rock is 20 feet high and five meters in diameter(直径), and weighs over 250 tons. Some say the rock is a natural formation(形成), but scientists think that's impossible because natural corrosion(腐蚀) couldn't produce such an unusual shape. Others, think that the rock might have been placed there by Gods from the sky, or the aliens who visited Earth thousands of years ago.
One of the earliest known attempts(尝试) to move the rock was made by Narasimhavarman, a Pallava king who ruled Southern India from 630 to 668 C. E. The strongest of his men could not move it at all. More recently, in 1908, Governor of Madras Arthur Lawley decided that he wanted to get rid of(除掉) the rock, fearing that it would slide down the hill. He used seven elephants to do the task, but much to his surprise, it did not budge.

Do you often see a windsock blowing in the wind? Well, you can make one of your own! This is a fun thing that you can do with things you may have. You just need to follow a few easy steps.
You will need:
one piece of heavy colored paper
five ribbons
strong tape(胶带)
a string(细绳,线)
a pencil
What to do:
Step 1: Draw pictures on the paper. You can write your name on it. Do anything that will make it special to you.
Step 2: Make the paper into the shape of a tube. Hold one of the shorter edges(边缘)over the other. Then make them together with the tape at each end and in the middle.
Step 3: Use a pencil to make a hole into both sides of the tube. The holes should be only on one end of the tube. Pull(拉)the string through both holes. Then tie(绑,系)the ends of the string together.
Step 4: Now make five holes around the top of the other end of the tube. Put a ribbon through each of the holes. Tie a knot in the ends. Make sure the knots are bigger than the holes.
Now your windsock is ready to use, but how does it work? The shape of the tube plays an important part. Wind blows through the tube and makes it fly and dance around. 9 . COVID-19 has made people think harder about their relationship with nature. It has also raised questions about city lifestyles. The sharing economy, working in open offices, living in crowded apartment and the food industry's use of reusable products have made the perfect storm for a pandemic(大流行).
Although the sharing economy might be good—it's cheaper to rent than to own—sharing spaces and objects are great ways to spread the virus. How does one do "social distancing" when they are expected to share cars, bikes and even the same offices?
The trend of using open offices, which can save space, is working against. In this type of office, workers don't have their own desk—everything is shared. Sometimes, computers and chairs are also shared, which is not hygienic(卫生的). Luckily, more workers are working from home during the pandemics but that won't last forever.
Reusability(循环利用)is a common practice in the restaurant industry. Reusable cups and chopsticks are often used. Unluckily, reusable products increased the chance of spreading disease. For example, Starbucks recently stopped refilling customers' reusable cups in order to stop the spread of the virus.
People like to be social. But the virus has made this more dangerous. We have to be careful about how we interact with others for now. Perhaps we need to rethink about our lifestyles to reduce the spread of future pandemics.
