1 . The Chinese paddlefish was part of an ancient group of fish that had lived since around 200 million years ago.
This world's largest freshwater fish could reach up to unbelievable 7 meters in length and weigh as much as nearly half a ton. It had a long, silver-colored body and a very large mouth. With weakly developed eyes, the fish fed with its mouth open and used its long, sword-like snout to sense its food. The sword-like snout helped itself gain the nickname "Elephant Fish". And its rarity also made this unusual fish become the “Panda of the Yangtze River”.
The Chinese paddlefish was native to the Yangtze River and its estuary at the East China Sea. They mainly lived in the large rivers, but sometimes travelled into large lakes. They were strong swimmers. But wherever they went, they usually lived alone and took up the lower part of the water. Unlike its relative the American paddlefish, the Chinese paddlefish was mainly feeding on small to medium-sized fishes in rivers or lakes.
Although the Chinese paddlefish spent part of their life in the lower section of the Yangtze, they migrated up river to lay eggs, which occurred in spring, from mid-March to early April. The grown fish can lay a large number of eggs about 200,000. There used to be tons of Chinese paddlefish in the Yangtze River. After the 1970s, the decline of the number was significant. Since 2000, there have only been two alive fish recorded. The Chinese paddlefish was reported to be extinct in a study by Chinese scientists in late 2019. In fact, it hasn't been seen since 2003 and it's thought it died out sometime between 2005 and 2010.

THERE is something romantic about riding on two wheels. You see the beautiful sights around you without windows in your way, you hear the noise of the bike riding right under your seat, and you even get the feeling of flying and freedom.
To maintain social distance to prevent the spread of COVID-19, the two-wheel business, has once again been a boom around the world. Some love to cycle for the speed, some for the fitness, some for the friendship, some for the freedom and others for the environmental protection. Now China, America, England and many other countries added much wider bike lanes for people to cycle, according to the market research company NPD Group.
Even so, there are still some rules we have to follow. Take Netherlands for example, the Netherlands is famous for its cycling culture and there are many cycling rules in the Netherlands. Let’s take a look at some of them.
☆Rule 1: You must have one white or yellow light on the front of your bike, and a red one on the back. After the sun sets, you must turn them on.
☆Rule 2: It’s not a must to wear a helmet while riding, but it’s highly recommended.
☆Rule 3: You may not use your mobile phone while riding a bike.
☆Rule 4: Two cyclists can ride side by side, but they must make room for those who want to pass them.

Do you know that there’s a possibility that you may live forever? You will have computers which are 1,000 times more intelligent than Albert Einstein, one of the smartest scientists ever in the world? Yes! All these may happen in 20 years or more. In the next 20 or 30 years, the world will change much faster than ever before because the technology change will be simply breath-taking.
Computers will acquire human personalities, as well as the ability to understand words and their meanings when you speak to them. Tomorrow’s computer will be so developed that it can have a face-to-face chat with you like an old friend. In fact, you don’t even have to speak to it. Just like a friend, the computer will also have the ability to understand your thoughts.
However, will computers take over the world? Probably not, for people will also acquire-superhuman abilities. They may never die. “Unless a person is unlucky enough to die early from an accident or a disease, he has a good chance of not dying at all. Genetics will make this possible.” says Pearson, a British futurologist as well as a trained physicist.
Recently there have been many reports about discovering the code of the human genome, which determines many aspects of heredity. This finding will make it possible to repair damage caused by age and disease, keeping people young forever. Besides, if people suddenly die, it would be possible to recreate them with the help of the genetics.
So we have the reason to believe, with the development of genetic engineering and computer science technology, human beings will have superhuman abilities and the possibility of being young and alive forever. While at the same time, computers will be much more intelligent than we can imagine. Then who will control the world?

4 . Come and join the nearly 25 million people around the world who are in-line skaters. In-line skating is faster and smoother than regular roller-skating. Some people say that it feels like ice-skating without the ice or like running on wheels.
A regular roller skate has four wheels arranged in a rectangle, but the wheels on an in-line skate are arranged in a straight line. When you turn a corner on a regular skate, the inner wheels travel a shorter distance than the outer wheels. Turns make you lose balance and slow down. When you turn on in-line skates, however you glide easily because all the wheels travel the same distance. That’s why regular roller-skating is boring and in-line skating is exciting.
There are different kinds of in-line skating. Beginning skaters usually skate for fun. This is called recreational, or “rec” skating. More experienced skaters may play roller hockey or race. “Aggressive skaters” can make fancy jumps, or “airs”, using ramps, which are the most awesome. The competitions of this kind are amazing to watch.
Before you try in-line skating, you need some basic equipment. First, you need to buy or rent your skates. Make sure that they are comfortable, not too tight and not too loose. Skates that fit correctly support your feet. Then, protect other parts of your body with a helmet, elbow pads, wrist guards, and knee pads. Always remember that the ground is hard, but your body is soft!
Once you are padded in all the important places, you’re ready to start. One good way to begin learning in-line skates is to “duck walk” on grass or a thick carpet. When you duck walk, you point your skates outward in a V-shape. After you’ve practiced walking, you can try stroking and gliding on a hard, smooth surface. In no time you’ll be whizzing along a path.
So go ahead, get in-line! Though you better watch out — you may become a loyal in-line skater. There is nothing more exciting than speeding through a park on a sunny day.

How do you feel when your teacher asks you to work in a group with other students? Do you like to work together with others or work alone?
The Program for International Student Assessment, or PISA, did a survey of students’ ability to work together in groups. They found that students who do well on tests by themselves are also possibly better at working with other people.
This finding was true for many countries. Students in Japan, South Korea, Finland and Canada, where test scores are high, also did well in working together to solve problems. But this was not always the same in every country. Chinese students, who have high scores as well, however, showed average collaborative ability.
“One reason might be that Chinese parents and teachers pay too much attention to scores,” said Zhao Zhongxin, former vice president of the Chinese Family Education Association. “Students have to face a lot of exams and they think school is a place for competition.”
“However, collaborative ability is very important for preparing students for today’s society,” he added. “Luckily, more Chinese parents and teachers have known the importance of this and are thinking of ways to help students with this ability.”
Another interesting finding from the PISA survey was that girls are better than boys at working together. They said girls are more positive to collaborate, which means they are ready to listen to others’ ideas.
PISA also found that the classroom environment will influence how well students collaborate. Students may do better towards collaborating if there are a lot of activities, such as class debates, group work.

A book cover that attracts you to read, an app that keeps you exercising, a search engine that is easy to use… these all need good design. Good design makes our lives easier and better. But what makes good design?
Fortune magazine recently published a list of the 100 greatest designs of modern times. The list shows a clear change in design idea over the past years, according to Fortune. In the 1950s, design mostly referred to the aesthetics of a product, such as the beautiful design of a sports car. But today, the key point is how it can solve problems and change society in a good way.
One example is the Chinese app WeChat. It offers many kinds of functions, including messaging, video calling and online payment. It's a "one-stop shop" that makes our life much easier.
Mobike is also on the list. In big cities, many people have to travel a long way between the bus or subway stop and their homes or offices. Thanks to China's Mobike, people can solve the "last mile" problem by riding bikes, Fortune said. Mobike's bikeshare service allows people to find a bike almost anywhere in most Chinese cities. Its online payment allows people to easily open a bike lock with a smartphone.
Here is another great design called OXO Good Grips Peeler. This peeler was designed by American designer Sam Farber in 1990. When he found that his wife had trouble holding her peeler because of the hurt of her arm, Sam decided to create a more useful tool that would benefit everyone. The peeler has a wide handle that is easy to hold and control. He also used a special material to make the handle, which is soft to the touch and non-slip even when it gets wet.
