1 . 阅读短文,根据要求完成文后的题目。

Now you’ve finished three years of English study. There’s one way to demonstrate(展示) what you’ve learned — take a test!

Do you have any special methods(方法) you use to help you do better on a test? How well you do often depends on how well prepared you are. Here are some ways to make sure you’re at your best on test days.

Go to bed early. The night before a test is not the time to stay up watching TV. You want to be rested and wide-awake for test day.

Have a good breakfast. Test day isn’t a morning for donuts(面包圈). Nor is it a time to starve yourself. Eat plenty of low-sugar, high-energy food to keep your brain and body working their best.

Be prepared. Make sure you have two pencils and anything else you were asked to bring.

Watch the numbers. Make sure that the number of the items(项目) on your answer sheet matches the number of the question.

Look over all the answer choices(选择). Don’t assume(假定) that choice A is correct until you’ve checked the others. You may find a better one. And it is wrong to eliminate any choice that you can see at once. You’ll have a better chance of finding the right answer.

Check the clock. Make sure you allow yourself enough time to answer every question and go back and check your answers. Don’t spend too much time on any difficult questions. Skip(跳读) them and come back to them later.

Keep up with your schoolwork all year long. That’s how you get the skills you need for taking tests.

1. How many ways are mentioned in this passage? (no more than 2 words)
2. What can you eat to help you keep your brain and body working their best? (no more than 6 words)
3. How do you deal with difficult questions? (no more than 17 words)

Shanghai University of Engineering Science has become the first university in China to be covered by 5G net work, the university announced on Tuesday.

Chinese mobile carriers (运营商) are expected to spend 1.2 trillion yuan ( US $176.5 billion) on 5G by 2025, 50 percent more than their total 4G investment(投资), Nomura said yesterday. Carriers including China Mobile, China Telecom and China Unicom are expected to build over 9 million 5G base stations by 2025.

5G is a "game-changing" opportunity for carriers as they can explore new business like smart manufacturing, super high definition video and smart driving instead of just being a "pipeline" for voice and data services.

China will supply “temporary” 5 licenses in several aimed cities this year. Consumers(消费者) will be able to use the first batch of 5G smart-phone and tablet computers in the second half.

It's the first time that China's top industry regulator clarified the 5G industry timeline, especially the first appearance of 5G phones.

But 5G services will become accessible to normal consumers later than expected. More work needs to be done to make the 5G industry fully developed which won't happen until 2020, said UBS recently. 4 . Reading is fun! Besides for fun, we can also analyze(分析)texts to learn more from the texts and more about the texts. One way we can do this is by finding out the theme of the texts.

The theme of a text is the "big idea" that runs through the text connecting the characters and events. Usually the theme of a text isn't told directly, you have to use clues(线索)in the text to find it out. Themes can be ideas like family, friendship, love and so on. The theme might not be just one word, but it might be an idea such as "Friendship is important." There may also be more than one theme in a story. How can we find out the theme of a text? The following steps may help you.

Read through the whole text. Usually characters change as the story goes on, so the theme you get at the beginning might not be true at the end! For this reason, you need to read through the whole text first.

Find out the clue. After reading the whole text, try to answer the following questions. What important events happened during the story? What was the problem? How did the problem get solved? How did the character(s)change? What did the character(s)learn? The answers may help you to get the clues.

Get the big idea. Read again for the writer's purpose of the text by answering the following questions. Was most of the plot(情节)around friendship? Did the characters solve problems with their families? Did the main character learn the importance of friendship? If one of the answers is "yes", you may get the big idea.

Check the big idea out. If you've found a "big idea", go through the text to find the evidence(证据)that supports this idea in the text. For example, if there was only one small problem with a character's family, then "family" might not be the theme of the text. You might find more evidence for other themes.

Have you got the way to find out the theme of a text? Get your favorite book quickly and see if you can find the theme out!

9 . It's a Western custom to say "bless you" after someone sneezes.

"Achoo!"

"Bless you."

This is a common exchange in English-speaking countries. When you hear someone else sneeze, it is polite to say "bless you", to which they should reply with "thank you". But where does this odd custom come from?

In fact, it dates back to medieval(中世纪的) Europe, specifically, the time of the bubonic plague(黑死病). The plague killed nearly one-third of Europe's population within three years(1347-1350). The first symptom of the bubonic plague was sneezing. At that time, people believed that if you sneezed, your soul might leave your body.

People didn't know how to cure the bubonic plague. They were simply encouraged to say "God bless you" and do other superstitious(迷信的) things, hoping the soul would go back into the body. And over time, "God bless you" was shortened to "bless you".

Of course, in modern times, we know that sneezing has nothing to do with the soul or any other superstitious thing. But just like so many other customs from the past, saying "bless you" has stayed with us for hundreds of years.

But you may be wondering—what if someone sneezes more than once? Well, you don't have to keep saying "bless you". In fact, if someone sneezes more than twice, or sneezes especially loudly, you may want to ask them if they're OK, or if they would like a tissue(纸巾).

Then again, you don't really need to say anything at all. People won't think you're rude if you forget to say "bless you". But they will also appreciate it if you do.

1. Where does the odd custom "bless you" come from?(回答问题,不超过9个词)

2. Did people know how to cure the bubonic plague in the past?(回答问题,不超过4个词)
