1 . Cuba is a country with a lot of islands. It lies in the northern Caribbean Sea(加勒比海). It is in the south of the U. S, west of Haiti and north of Jamaica. It has a population of 11.43 million.
Cubans are quite friendly to visitors. If you have left a good impression on the family, the host will share everything about his family with you, such as their experiences, hobbies and family plans. Of course, they maybe invite you to take part in their family activities. There is a special custom in the New Year in Cuba. On the night before the New Year, Cubans like to prepare a bowl of clean water for each of them. After the clock strikes the twelfth, everyone takes the bowl of water outside to greet the happiness and wishes of the New Year.
When visiting Cuba, you should prepare yourself for the sweet food of this country well. Even some of them maybe make you feel not good. That is because Cuba can produce more sugar than other countries. Cubans like to drink strong drinks as well as the ice cold beer. While drinking, Cubans talk with guests happily. They dislike eating mutton and seafood. But fruit is their necessary part of a meal. Quite often they drink juice made from fruit.
Cubans think Friday and thirteen are unlucky. And they hate to wear hats, because it means that one of their relatives has died. Every country has its own customs, food, culture and so on. In my opinion, Cuba is really a wonderful place.

Now people depend more on the Internet to store information. Do people remember less? If you know your computer will store information, why do you put it in your brain? Experts are wondering if the Internet is changing what and how we remember.
In a recent study, Professor Betsy Sparrow did some experiments(实验). She and her team wanted to know if the Internet is changing memory. In the first experiment, they gave people 40 unimportant facts and then stored them into a computer. The first group of people were told that the computer had stored the information. But the second group didn’t know that. Later, the second group remembered the information better. People in the first group knew they could find the information again, so they did not try to remember it.
In another experiment, the researchers gave people facts to remember, and told them where to find the information on the Internet. The information was in a certain computer folder(文件夹). Surprisingly, people later remember the folder’s location(位置) better than the facts. When people use the Internet, they do not remember the information. Instead, they remember how to find it. This is called “transactive memory(交互记忆)”.
According to Sparrow, we are not becoming people with poor memories as a result of the Internet. Instead, computer users are developing stronger transactive memories, that is, people are learning how to organize a great deal of information so that they are able to find it at a later date. This doesn’t mean we are becoming either more or less intelligent, but there is no doubt that the way we use memory is changing.

7 . A myth is something that is not correct, but many people believe. There are a lot of myths about the human brain.
One of the biggest myths is that we only use 10 percent of our brains. The next part of the myth is that if we can learn to use the rest of our brains, then we'll be much smarter. People say this all the time, but it's absolutely not true! The truth is that although we don't know everything about the human brain, we know that each part of it has an important function (功能) . Modern scientists think the "10 percent myth" ridiculous (荒谬的) .
The other most popular myth is about being "right brained" or "left brained". According to this myth, people who use the right side of their brains are more artistic and creative. People who use the left side of their brains are better at math and science. This is as popular as the 10 percent myth, and it's also wrong. In 2013, a study at an American university examined the right brain and left brain myth. According to the study, we use both sides of our brains equally (相等地). "
It's true that we use different parts of our brains for different things. We use our left side for language more, and our right side when we need to pay attention. But there is no evidence (证据) that creative people use the right side more or that scientific people use the left side more.
We've talked about myths, so let's look at a few interesting facts about the brain. First of all, the brain feels no pain. Second, about 75 percent of the brain is made of water. It's also the fattest organ in your body. Here's another interesting fact about the brain. Around the time you turn 18 years old, it stops growing.

C.Some parts of it are not used at all. | D.Three quarters of it is made of water. |

On June 26, 2000, two scientists, called Francis Collins and Craig Venter, told the world that they could now read the whole “map” of the human body: DNA. DNA is something that everybody has, and it tells the body what to do. DNA is the reason that we look like our mother and father, because we get some of their DNA to make our own.
People have been trying to understand the human body for a long time. In 1860, Gregor Mendel discovered a special reason why we look the same as other people in our family. It is because of small things named “genes” in our body. In 1953, James Watson and Francis Crick made another discovery and found out that those small parts are real messages written in the DNA with a special language.
In 1961, Marshall Nirenberg and Johann Matthaei found a message in DNA showing how DNA tells the cell (细胞) to build its parts. Scientists have now found all the words in the DNA map, but we still do not understand what they all do. By understanding what just one “word” means, we can help save more people from several illnesses.
Most people hope that this will help make better medicine and help sick people. Other people worry that when people begin to know more words and find out lots of other information, we might use it in a wrong way, just to make people more attractive, or stop sick people from getting jobs. Man would have to meet a lot of trouble if DNA technic wasn’t limited in use.
