Yet people around the world continue to smoke. In the United States, about forty-seven million adults smoke. This year, more than 430,000 Americans died of diseases which have something to do with smoking. The American Cancer Society(美国癌症协会)says smoking harms the body greatly. It warns that smoking even a number of cigarettes is dangerous.
It’s not easy to give up smoking. However, doctors say you probably will live longer if you do stop smoking. You will feel better and look better. You also will protect the health of family members who breathe your smoke.
There is not one right way to stop smoking, doctors say. Any way can help. You can take long walks or spend time in places where smoking is not allowed. Also, you can eat a small piece of fruit or vegetable instead of having a cigarette. The sooner you stop smoking, the more you’ll reduce your chances of getting cancer and other diseases.

"From Boys to Men" by an American author, Michael Gurian, tells teenage boys that they are living through the best years of their lives. There is no reason for them not to love life.
You may think that only your body is growing at the moment. But the book says your mind is growing, too. The book tells teenage boys that they need to help their bodies and minds grow. To do this, they should stop spending their time playing computer games and should start playing sports. Sports, the book says, keep you healthy and teach you important life skills. They teach you how to be a leader and how to work as part of a team.
The book also tells boys how to love life if they're being bullied (被欺负). It says boys have to stop being scared (害怕的) of such bullies. It is the only way they can become more successful people.
To become the man you want to be, you have to think for yourself and believe in yourself. But, most importantly, the book says, you must always dream of success. Never be happy with what you've got, and always want more.

Some people have afternoon tea with sandwiches, cakes and a cup of tea.
They usually have the evening meal quite early, between 6:00 and 8:00, and often, all the family eat together.

School students have to do homework and study for tests. They don’t have a lot of free time in the week. They often do chores at the weekend.
Young kids only do easy chores. So they don’t get much money. But that’s all right. Many of them only want to buy candy. And candy is cheap! They help wash up after dinner and feed the family cat or dog.
When they get older, kids want to buy more and more things. They want things that are more expensive than candy. Then they have to work harder! They often wash the family car, cut the grass, walk the dog and cook dinner.
Some jobs are a good way for kids to learn new things. For example, they can learn to use a lawnmower(割草机) or how to cook. Of course, their parents help them at first.

Then we put everything into the car and we drive to the woods(森林). We look for a place for campers and we look for a good place for our tent(帐篷). The place should have a lot of moving air. This will keep some insects away. High land with water on both sides of it is good. Then we put up our tent. We put everything into the tent, and we are ready for fun. We can swim in the lake, walk in the woods, climb a mountain, row a boat, or go fishing.
In the evening we come back to the tent, we build a big fire(火), because it can keep the insects away. We sit around the fire and talk. We may tell interesting stories or we may sing songs.
At night we lie down on the grass. We can look up at the stars. It is a busy day, so we try to go to sleep early.

Do not go outside. You could get injured from falling glass or parts of buildings. If you are outside, stay away from buildings and power lines (输电线).
Stay under a desk, table, or other strong furniture. Hold on to it. Or stay in a corner of the building. Cover your face and head with your arms and cover your mouth with a towel or clothing. Stay inside until shaking stops and it is safe to go outside.
Keep away from windows, pictures or advertisements on the wall or the building, and anything else that could fall and hurt you. Most people get injured by falling things during an earthquake, not by the shaking itself.
Also keep away from a fire. You could fall down and burn yourself on the fire.
