1 . Life comes in a package. This package includes happiness and sadness, failure and success, hope and despair. Life is a learning process. Experiences in life teach us new lessons and make us a better person. With each passing day, we learn to deal with all kinds of problems.

Failure is the way to success. It helps us to touch the sky, teaches us to survive and shows us a specific way. Success brings money, fame and self-respect.

Hope is what keeps life going. Parents always hope their children will do well. Hope makes us dream. Hope teaches us not to despair even in the darkest hours, because after every night there is a day.

Any parent will tell you that their child is their most precious (宝贵的)gift. In one year, when I am sending my daughter on her first day of school, I will trust her teacher that she will return safely. So I prepare to send my child out into the big world where she will meet new children and teachers, ready to learn and explore this big world.

However, before she becomes a real student, I'd like to share with you what I hope for her teachers.

Develop strong relationships with your students. Really get to know them and show an interest in them, their friends and their family life.

Know your students. Learn about their dreams and encourage them. Find out your students' strengths (长处)and offer chances to use them and feel that joy of doing something they both like and are good at.

3 . Could the students from less developed areas(不发达地区)in central and western China get the same educational chances (机会) as those in big cities in the east? Could the children in poor rural areas (农村地区) develop as well as those in rich cities? Maybe the answers were “No” in the past. But now, China is trying to change (改变)the situation(情况).

To help rural students grow taller and stronger, China’s Nutrition Improvement Program (中国营养改善计划) started in 2011. According to the program, a lot more money was spent improving students’ meals. More than 36 million students from 134,000 primary and junior high schools in poor rural areas have benefited from the program. They are provided (提供) with healthy food like eggs and milk from Monday to Friday at school. And the result of a survey shows that the students in those areas are much taller and stronger than before.

It is true that there were differences between less developed areas and developed areas in education before. Recently, The Guideline for Popularizing High School Education (2017-2020) has come out. According to the guideline, over 90% students from all over the country will go to high schools by 2020. What’s more, the schools in central and western areas will get more help to improve their education.

Students from rural and poor areas also have more chances to get higher education. A special college program makes it possible for more students from those areas to go to key (重点的) colleges and universities.

With the guideline and programs, we can expect a fairer and more balanced (更公平、更均衡的) education in the future.

4 . How do you feel about nature? After spending hours indoors, do you feel better when you visit your local park? Most people think that nature is good for our bodies and brains. However, humans are spending more time inside and less time outside. For example, the number of visitors to Canada's national parks is getting lower every year. And in countries such as the USA, only 10% teenagers can spend time outside every day. Many doctors feel this is a problem in the 2lst century.

As a result, some doctors are studying the connection between nature and health: one example of this is the work of Dr. Matilda in Sweden. The doctor gave people a maths test. During the test, their heart rates(心率)were fast. After the test, one group of people sat in a 3D-vitual-reality(虚拟现实)room for fifteen minutes with pictures and sounds of nature. Their heart rates were slower than people's in the other group.

The virtual touch with nature helped them feel more relaxed. Another god example of how nature is good for health comes from Canada. In Toronto, researchers studied 31,000 people living in the city. In general, they found that healthier people lived near parks.

Because of studies like these, some countries and cities want nature to be part of people's everyday life. In Dubai, for example, there are plans for a new shopping mall with a large garden so shoppers can relax outside with trees, plants and water. In Switzerland, "forest schools" are popular. Many children study their subjects in the forests and do lots of exercise outside.

And South Korea is another good example: it has new forests near its cities and around 13 million people visit these forests every year. So after building cities for so long, perhaps it's now time to start rebuilding nature.

A.telling storiesB.comparing numbers

D.In the USA, only 10% teenagers can spend time outside every day.
3. We can infer from the passage that __________.
A.fewer and fewer Canadians will live near parks
B.people used to break the rule of nature to develop cities
C.the virtual touch with nature helped them feel more relaxed

5 . How are you feeling today? Often when we ask people that question, they reply “not bad”, or “could be worse”. But what would make us feel “perfect”? Maybe we could live better by being healthier, less stressed, more active– but how?

Of course there are many ways for improving our mental health(精神健康状态), but sometimes there are small and simple ways to help improve our health. It’s something the BBC TV program Easy Ways to Live Well has been looking at. It offered several health suggestions. And maybe they could help us.

Firstly, to deal with putting on weight and to cut the calories (热量), the program found the strong smell of peppermint (薄荷) can distract our brain from the food we’re thinking about. That is to say, peppermint can help us give up the idea to have a snack.

If your addiction (上瘾) to your smartphone is getting you down, it’s suggested that turning your phone screen white and black helps you cut down screen time because a black and white screen becomes less pleasant to look at. With recent studies showing our phones can make us 26% less productive and give us less stress.

Imagine a swim in ice-cold water? Well, the BBC program found a daily swim in freezing water gets you used to the stress of doing it and therefore prepares you for other life stresses. And another way to relax is to leave your smartphone at home, lose yourself in a forest, and breathe in the fresh air. Forest bathing is the perfect medicine for the stresses of city life.

In conclusion, whatever way we choose, it seems any change to our lifestyle can help improve our body and mind.

7 . It was a surprise and painful lesson for many people when the police announced the cause of a bus accident in Chongqing on October 28th. The video from inside the bus showed that after a passenger missed her stop and asked the driver to stop, he refused, and she began attacking (袭击) him over the head with her cell phone. During the fight, the driver lost control of the bus and it fell into the Yangtze River. It was reported that the accident left 13 people dead and two missing.

From sunrise to sunset, my father, my younger brother and I worked in the large garden, in a rich part of Atlanta, Georgia. By the end of the day I was too tired to say a word but I felt good. This was my first time to help my father in his business. I got for my work that day.

One day, my father found some leaves I had missed and pulled me aside. "Take away these leaves!" said seriously, "and don't make me have to tell you to do it again." The message was clear. 9 . When talking about the little town, Yibin, Southwest China’s Sichuan Province, we’ve always been thinking about Yibin Noodles and Wuliangye Rice wine until one night on June 17th, when most people were about to sleep, a 6.0-magnitude earthquake (地震) hit the lovely town, which caused 13 deaths and many other injuries. During the normal earthquake, houses fell down, the earth shook, lots of people rushed out to the streets. Everything was in a mess.

Soldiers and experts quickly arrived in the area. They helped save people and rebuild homes. Tens of thousands of people have given money to help. Yang Yan, a sixth-grader in Yibin, Sichuan, was taking a drawing class in a tent on June 19th. She drew a house with wings. “If my house could fly, it wouldn’t have fallen down in an earthquake,” she told the West China Metropolis Daily.

Earthquakes do much harm (危害) to our life, and some other serious earthquakes also cause a tsunami (海啸) and a nuclear leak (核泄漏). But we can’t stop an earthquake from happening. However, we can use some methods to reduce the harm. The American Red Cross introduced the “Drop, Cover & Hold on” methods.

Drop down onto your hands and knees. This can stop you from falling. Cover your head and neck under a strong table or desk. If there is no shelter (遮盖物) nearby, you can also stay by a wall, and cover your head and neck with your arms and hands Hold on to your shelter until the shaking stops.

It’s also important that we are well prepared for these kinds of disasters. Japan is considered to be one of the best countries at dealing with earthquakes. From a young age, the Japanese are taught how to survive (幸存) them. Schools in Japan often take earthquake drills (演练). Almost every Japanese family as a survival kit (救生包) with a flashlight, a radio, water and enough food for several days. This helps people to stay alive after an earthquake.

March 28th is China’s National School Safety Day. “There should be more safety training at schools in our country,” said Xu Jiannong, an education expert in Beijing. “There have been many earthquakes around the world in recent years. It is necessary for teenagers to know some safety tips for earthquakes.”
