1 . As we know, bees and butterflies are pollinators (传粉昆虫). But do you know how butterflies and bees pollinate? In fact, they are getting their own transport network as bee bus stops start to appear around UK cities and across Europe. Bee bus stops are similar to the bus stops we see today. The only difference is that there are small gardens (花园) on the top. The gardens are full of flowers for pollinators.
A company (公司) named Clear Channel is working with the Wildlife Trusts, a group that works to protect wildlife in the UK, to set up such bee bus stops in cities across the UK. Clear Channel hopes to set up at least 1,000 bee bus stops in the UK. In fact, the company has already started similar programs in several countries in Europe. Utrecht, Europe’s first city to get bee bus stops now has more than 300.
The number of pollinators was becoming smaller and smaller in the UK year by year, according to the Wildlife Trusts. It worried people a lot. Luckily, the idea of bee bus stops came out in time and it is working out fine. A study shows that the number of pollinators in the UK has stopped dropping over the last few years.
As well as the pollinators like bees and butterflies benefit, the bus stops can also help to lower city temperature. Even though the gardens on their tops are small, together they add up to a much larger area. “We are facing the problem of global warming (全球变暖) and we need to use everything we’ve got to help solve it. The bee bus stops are one of our solutions.” says a worker of the Wildlife Trusts. “Although bee bus stops are small, they can make a big difference.”

2 . Recently I had a trip to Sydney with my parents. We visited the Wildlife Park.
The Wildlife Park has lots of different animals. Some are native (当地的) to Australians and can only be found there. There are more than 500 animals there, including kangaroos, koalas and crocodiles. They are kept in their natural environment. I like the Wildlife Park better than a zoo. In zoos, most of the animals are in cages.
We first spent some time with the kangaroos. We could touch and feel them. It was very exciting to be so close to them. There were koalas there too. They looked very cuddly (令人想拥抱的). Although we couldn’t carry koalas, I could take a photo with one. It is a wonderful souvenir (纪念品) of my holiday in Sydney.
The Wildlife Park has plenty of freshwater crocodiles and saltwater crocodiles. Some of them are very big and scary with huge teeth! I did not want to get too close to them.
There was also a birds show. The keepers showed us different species of birds. I saw an old parrot. It could “talk” and made a great impression on me.
I enjoy the trip very much. There was so much to see.

Beluga whales, also known as white whales, are one of the smallest kinds of whales. Their special color makes them easy to tell apart from other whales. But do you know that beluga whales are not born white? In fact, beluga whales are gray or brown when they are born. It takes up to eight years for them to become completely white.
Beluga whales are highly social animals. They usually live in small groups and hunt (捕猎) together. They can use different sounds like mews and bell-like tones to communicate. They can also copy other sounds like human speech. They have a musical voice and are known as the “canaries of the sea (海中金丝雀)”.
Beluga whales are stocky (粗壮的). They can grow up to 5 m in length and weigh as much as 1,600 kg. Even though they are very big, they are friendly animals. They always appear to have a smile on their face. They often think of humans as interesting friends in their watery world. However, it is important to remember this: When you get close to them, you should be careful and show your friendliness, as they can be aggressive (富于攻击性的) when they feel in danger.
It is sad to tell you that our cute friends are facing dangers, including changes in the environment, hunting, noise, and pollution from cities. It is very important to take action to protect them.

7 . Not only do dogs provide love to their owners, but some also give their owners independence. People with trouble seeing or hearing have special dogs called service dogs. Service dogs help their owners get around independently.
Some service dogs are trained to be the “eyes” of their owners who are blind or have low vision. These service dogs guide their owners as they move through their homes and communities. These dogs help their owners shop at a store, visit a friend, or take public transportation, like buses and subways. One seeing eye dog named Chloe helped her owner Sami who loved to run. Chloe guided Sami as she ran track in high school.
Other service dogs are trained to be the “ears” of people who are Deaf or hard of hearing. They let their owners with hearing problems know when the doorbell or phone rings. Phyllis, a teacher who has a hearing loss, has a service dog named Shadow. When a student would call Phyllis’s name, Shadow would nudge her with his nose. Then he would run to the student who asked the question.
Service dogs often wear a special vest or collar, which allows them to go into stores or any place where dogs usually cannot go. Remember! If you see a service dog, it is working to take care of its owner. This means you must ask the owner if you may pet the dog.

Nature is amazing! You’ll discover many unbelievable things in nature. Take butterflies as example, they have beautiful, colourful wings, and strong, wonderful flying skills. On summer days, you always see them flying freely over flower gardens and fields.
But, do you know how butterflies become the flying insects? It’s one of the amazing wonders of nature. In the beginning, female butterflies make a small and colourful egg on a leaf of a plant.
It’s hard to believe that the egg will become something different in a few days. It becomes a walking insect. This insect is called a caterpillar. It now has legs, eyes and a large body. A new life has begun. The caterpillar can eat, walk and see. But it is still not a butterfly.
Soon, after growing big, the caterpillar makes a protective blanket (保护层) for itself. It covers itself in the nice protective blanket and goes to sleep. This stage is known as the “pupa (蛹)” stage.
After a period of time, a wet, weak butterfly appears. It now has six legs, a mouth, eyes and wings. Shortly, the blood fills the wings and the beautiful, colourful butterfly spreads its wings and flies away.
After a few weeks, this adult butterfly has her own eggs, and the cycle begins all over again.
This is just one example of the wonders of nature. Look around the natural world, and you will learn many amazing things.
