Giant pandas live on     1    . To our surprise, as much as 30 kilograms of it can be eaten by one panda a day. But why do they eat so much? That’s because they need eat a lot to stay     2    . 5 . There are forty-seven different kinds of kangaroos(袋鼠). They live in Australia. The smallest are about a quarter of a metre long; the biggest are taller than a man.

Kangaroos have very long, strong back legs. These are used for jumping. They also have long, strong tails(尾巴) used for resting on. Kangaroos’ front legs are much shorter and are almost like arms. Kangaroos’ heads are small, but their ears are quite large.

Mother kangaroos have a pocket at the front. They have one baby each year. When it is born, the baby kangaroo is straight(直接) into its mother’s pocket. The baby kangaroos stay there for six months.

The biggest kangaroos stand more than two metres tall, and their legs are so strong that they can jump more than nine metres. They are very fast and can travel at more than 50 kilometres an hour. They are very strong, but only eat fruit, leaves and grass.

Many animals have tails（尾巴）. They use their tails to do many different things. Some animals use their tails as flyswatters（苍蝇拍）. Have you ever seen a cow shake its tail back and forth? It’s driving away the flies. Horses also use their tails in the same way.

Some animals hang by their tails. Monkeys often do this. Then they can use all four of their paws for other things, such as eating. Monkeys use their tails as a “hanger”, which can help them hang in the trees and climb trees. Animals that live in the water use their tails to help them swim. A fish uses its tail from side to side. A kangaroo（袋鼠）has a large, useful tail. It’s like a chair. The kangaroo stands on its tail to rest. It helps the kangaroo stand well. The tail is also good for landing. This is important because an adult kangaroo can jump as far as 15 feet at a time. A fox has a big tail. This is a good tail to have on cold nights. The fox can put its tail over its nose and paws while it sleeps. The tail can keep the fox warm.

Some animals don’t keep their tails with them at all times. If their enemies（敌人）catch them, their tails will break off（折断）. Don’t worry. They will soon grow a new tail. How amazing（令人惊异的）it is!

10 . Teddy was a small duck who lived in a park. He was thin, and he was good at swimming. But he didn’t know how to play tennis. One day, he saw some ducks playing tennis in the park. He walked to them and asked, “Could you teach me to play tennis?”

“How can you not know how to play tennis?” asked Roger.

“It will take too long to teach you!” said Mandy.

“I’m sorry, I’m not good at playing tennis,” said Sally.

No one wanted to teach Teddy. A few days later, Teddy decided to borrow (借) a tennis racket (球拍) and a tennis ball from his uncle Daniel. Daniel said to Teddy, “It will be hard to learn to play tennis by yourself. Let me help you.” “Wow, that would be great!” said Teddy.

Teddy started to learn that afternoon. He practiced very hard and soon he was good at it. Later Roger asked Teddy to have a game with him. “I know I’ll win,” Roger said to Mandy.

The next day, Roger and Teddy had their big game. The other ducks were all there cheering on Roger. Teddy felt a little afraid but he decided to do his best. At last, Teddy won the game.

Roger said he was sorry not to help Teddy at first. Teddy forgave him and they became good friends. They taught and helped other ducks to learn to play tennis together.
