I have always admired students who hand their homework in on time and never forget to do it. Me, on the other hand, … OK, I admit. I’m terrible at getting myself organized! But lately I’ve started keeping a small study diary. I write down everything I need to do and when it needs to be done by. Then I write a reminder a few days before the date just in case. It’s helping. So I was wondering, what are your tips for getting organized? Post a comment below. I’m hoping we can all share some tips to teach us all better study skills. |
Hana: Good question, Amy. I always spend about five minutes at the end of the day tidying up the desktop on my computer. I make a backup of important documents. I delete things I don’t need any more and put everything into the correct folder. |
Gloria: The most important thing is to start studying a few weeks before the exams and not leave it until the night before! That’s just common sense, I think. |
Lou: Hi, Amy. My tip is to have a big noticeboard in your bedroom, divided into different sections. I’ve got one. It’s a whiteboard. I’ve got a section for each school subject and another one for other stuff. I use board pens to write reminders and I make sure I look at it every day. The best part is when I remove something from the board! |

How is it going? I’ve stayed in Marseille for about a year. It’s in the south of France and is the second largest city of the country. It’s a really beautiful city, especially in autumn. You know my hometown Scotland is famous for its awful weather—always cold and rainy! But I’m lucky with the weather here this year. I only started wearing a coat a few days ago.
I love autumn here because I love the slow change from green to orange to red to brown during the months of the season. Whether a park, a street or a garden, autumn makes any place look like a postcard!
In September, October and November, the weather is colder than usual, but I find it refreshing (清凉的). I love running around outside to exercise. These months are the last chance to spend a lot of time outside before winter comes, so I try to make the most of it.
Autumn also has the best holidays of the whole year! I’m also lucky because my birthday is in September, and last weekend I had a picnic in the park with all my friends to celebrate my birthday! So I’m already counting down the months to next September!
Yours,
Lucy

5 . Hi, there! Can you help me? I’m doing a project at school. The title? ‘Will life be better in 2100?’ What do you think? Thank you for your ideas!
Josh
Comments
a. Hi Josh! I think life will be great. People will live in ‘smart houses’. A central computer will control (控制) the temperature, the lights, everything! These houses will be ecological and use solar energy and recycled water. A ‘smart’ mirror in the bathroom (that’s right, it’s a mirror with a computer!) will check your health. And guess what? Robots will cook and do the housework. Mayab. To fight pollution, people won’t use cars with petrol in the future. Instead, they will drive in electric cars on underground roads. And there will be electric buses with computers for drivers! The best thing? People will be able to travel in time. That will be exciting! Rosie
c. Hi Josh. Life will be better in 2100 — in space! People will live on the Moon and Mars in special cities. They will grow food and send it to the Earth in a huge spacecraft. Space stations will move around the Earth and control the climate (气候). There will also be holidays in space! How cool it is! Brandon
d. Will life be different in 100 years? Yes, it will. Will life be better? No, it won’t! Climate change will cause floods and droughts (干旱). Rich people will live for a long time, maybe 200 years! But life won’t be easy for most people. They won’t have food and water. Faith
e. Josh, the good news is that there won’t be any schools! Students will have lessons at home on their computers. They’ll talk with other students all over the world in a ‘virtual’ (虚拟的) classroom. Elliot

Canberra is the eighth largest city in Australia. It is 238 km from Sydney and 507 km from Melbourne. Melbourne was once the capital of Australia. Sydney people also wished to make their city the capital. It was difficult for the government (政府) to choose. Then in 1911 the government chose a place to build the new capital. It was between Sydney and Melbourne, the two largest cities. In 1927 the city became the capital and was named Canberra. “Canberra” means “a place for friends to get together.”
Canberra is a beautiful city with trees and flowers everywhere. There’s a flower festival in September each year. People can enjoy all kinds of beautiful flowers and welcome the spring to arrive. A man-made lake, Lake Bertey Griffin, is in the centre of the city. It’s about 25 km long. People like to ride bikes, walk or run around the lake. I don’t think we should set off firecrackers (爆竹) during holidays. It is really noisy. Some people fire them during midnight. People around cannot sleep well. Besides, it brings air pollution and lots of rubbish. Most people do not clean the rubbish after they set off firecrackers. So I think there is no need to set them off anymore during holidays.
Liu Ran, 14, Shandong
Setting off firecrackers is a tradition during Chinese festivals. They set them off to celebrate or wish a happy new year. The ceremony (仪式) is very important in Chinese people’s lives. And it also reminds us of one of the four great inventions of China, gunpowder (火药). We cannot give it up.
Lin Yisong, 15, Zhejiang
I think we should control the setting off of firecrackers. During holidays, the government could get people together in a place. They can set off some firecrackers or fireworks and people can watch. It is safer to do this and people can also enjoy their holiday tradition.
Li Qing, 14, Jiangsu
I think we can improve firecrackers. The firecrackers we use now are dangerous. That’s why we cannot set them off freely. But if we can make them safer and better for the air, we wouldn’t have to give them up.
Zhang Qi, 14, Guangxi
Firecrackers are dangerous and bad for the air. But it is really an important tradition in Chinese festivals. So I think we can use something else to replace them. For example, we can use LED fireworks instead. It is also beautiful and attractive. And it is much safer. Even kids can play with them.

10 . Would you like to adopt an animal? Although this sounds very unusual, some children have done just this. The Natural Zoo has given people the chance to adopt animals by paying for all of its food for one year. One of the animals that needed parents was a young tiger named Brocky. The people at the zoo said that it would cost about $900 a year for the food for Brocky.
Not many boys and girls have $900 to spend. That is why several hundred children and grown-ups each have sent a little money to the zoo to help pay for Brocky’s food. Some children sent in only a quarter because that was all the money they had. Other children sent in more money than that.
Since so many people sent money to the zoo to help pay for Brocky’s food, he now will be able to eat as much as he wants. Brocky surely must be a happy tiger to know that he has so many adopted parents. Many children must also be happy to know that they have helped to feed him. It really will be cool for those children to go to the Natural Zoo to visit their adopted tiger Brocky.
