1 . Bees make honey, and honey is one of the most amazing foods that we can find in nature. Did you know that honey never goes bad ? They have found honey that is 5, 000 years old and that you can still eat.     1    

A bee colony (蜂群) is a group of bees that live together. Each colony has one mother bee. This queen bee can live for three to five years. She produces up to 2, 000 eggs every day. The other bees make honey so that young bees can eat in the winter. How do they do this?     2     But as they do this, some of the pollen falls off the bees onto other flowers. The plants use this pollen to make new plants. Thirty percent of the world's crops need bees to live.

Unfortunately, bees can sting (刺) you if they think you are trying to hurt them. The best thing to do if this happens is to take the stinger out carefully with your finger mail (指甲) and wash the area with soap and water.     3     Some bees die after they sting. Poor bees!

There are many good reasons to keep bees yourself. Once you have done that, you will need wooden boxes to keep the bees in.     4     You will also need a jacket and a hat with a piece that covers your face to keep you safe while you are working with the bees.

Finally, you will need a way to make some smoke. When there is smoke near their home, bees can’t “talk” to each other. They start to eat their honey and think about leaving their home, so they will be too busy to sting you.     5    .

Dr. John, also known as “Dr. Deep Sea”, has just finished an amazing adventure. For 100 days, the University of South Florida teacher lived in a small room underwater.

On 1st March 2023, Dr. John, who’s 55, began the project. His goal was to stay for 100 days at a special underwater hotel. The hotel is 22 feet (6.7 meters) under the ocean surface in a protected area in Key Largo.

While he was living underwater, Dr. John stayed busy. He often exercised in the morning. He kept teaching his college classes, and he had online chats with over 5,500 students from 15 different countries. Dr. John worked with other marine (海洋的) experts to think of ways to protect and take care of the ocean.

A number of visitors dived down and spent a little time with Dr. John. He was also regularly checked out by a medical team. Dr. John said what he missed the most when he was underwater was sunshine.

On 9th June 2023, Dr. John was finally able to see the sun again. Many friends, family, and supporters were there to greet him and celebrate his success.

Dr. John was smiling when he came back up. Doctors quickly checked him out to make sure he was okay. Then, Dr. John spoke to the crowd about his 100 days underwater. “The human body has never been underwater that long,” Dr. John said. “This experience has changed me in an important way.”

Actually, Dr. John went through several big changes. For one thing, he became half an inch (1.3 centimeters) shorter during his time in the higher pressure undersea. For another, he was able to sleep much better. Besides, his health greatly improved in a couple of other ways.

Dr. John and his team of doctors plan to study the information they collected during the project.

Whenever the sun dropped and the blue sky came up, my father and I used to climb the mountain near my house. Walking together, my father and I used to have a lot of conversations through which I learned lessons from his experiences. He always told me, “You should have goals like climbing the mountain.” Without the mountain-climbing that we both enjoyed, we couldn’t have enough time to spend together because my father was very busy. I really got a lot from the mountain-climbing. It gave me time to talk with my father and to be in deep thought as well as develop my perseverance (毅力).

Once we climbed a very high mountain. It was so challenging for me because I was only ten years old. During the first few hours of climbing, I enjoyed the flowers and trees, and the birds’ singing. But as time passed, I got a pain in both of my legs. I wanted to quit climbing. In fact, I hated it at that moment, but my father said to me, “You can always see a beautiful sky at the top of the mountain, but you can’t see it before you reach the top. Only there you can see all of the nice things, just like your life.”

At that time, I was too young to understand his words. But later after that, I got new hope and confidence. I found myself standing at the top of the mountain, and the sky was as clear as crystal (水晶).

4 . Welcome to Happy Children’s Palace

Friends are like the colors of the rainbow. A single color is normal, but they become colorful and amazing when they get together. Look, there are three students talking and laughing happily in the hallways. They are Emily, Albert and Mark.     1     However, they have completely different personalities (性格).

Almost every friend group has a “parent”. Emily is certainly the most responsible one among the three.     2     When they hang out, the other two don’t need to worry about anything. If someone wants to find a person to talk to, Emily is always there to listen. If someone needs advice, Emily is the first person they would ask.

Albert is a quiet but talented boy. He doesn’t like talking too much. In most of his free time, he enjoys reading in the classroom or the school library, so he can always get good grades. When his friends have problems in study, Albert is often ready to help them out.     3    

Mark is a born leader. He is quite outgoing and kind-hearted. He joins the sports and the art clubs. At the same time, he is interested in outdoor activities. He often organizes class trips, bike riding races and other relaxing games. This makes him popular at school.     4     Sometimes, he goes to the old people’s home to talk with the old. On weekends, he often helps clean up the neighborhood.

When they go out together, Emily makes plans and Albert listens with interest. Mark encourages the other two to try new things. In return, Albert shares his favorite books with others. They make a perfect group and everyone can learn from each other.     5     So it’s not important for friends to be the same, but necessary to understand and respect each other.

7 . Do students have to wear their school uniforms at school every day? In many schools, it’s an important rule. The students must follow it.

School uniforms usually have good quality. They aren’t so expensive and students don’t need too much money to buy them.

Not all students like to wear the same clothes every day, but it’s a good habit to wear school uniforms.

One Sunday morning, I took my dog Ben to the park to have a walk. Reaching the end of one street, Ben pulled (拉) me into a garden (花园) with lots of colorful flowers. At first, I tried to pull Ben back to the street, feeling worried that there might be something dangerous inside the garden. However, every time I tried to get Ben out of the garden, he pulled harder. Then I decided to follow Ben in.

Several minutes later, I heard some sounds. Then I followed the sounds to a vegetable patch (一块菜地). A group of people were busy with all kinds of work there. I asked them who the owner of the garden was. To my surprise, they all shook their heads. In the end, they told me it was a community garden and they were all volunteers. They come to help every Sunday morning to make sure everything is growing well in the garden. The following Sunday morning, I didn’t give Ben a walk. I had a new plan. I would go to volunteer in the community garden.

It has been one year since (自从) my first visit to the garden. I still love coming back every Sunday morning to get my hands dirty. It is not easy work, but I feel very happy seeing everything in the garden grow well.
