1 . What should we do if one of our classmates suddenly falls ill or gets hurt? Here are some steps you should follow. But always remember to look for medical care after first aid (急救) if the wound is serious.

Broken bones (骨头) : Take away clothing from the wound. Use an ice pack. Don’t move the hurt body part while waiting for the doctor to arrive.

Animal bites (咬伤) : Wash the bite area with soap and water. Pack the wound with a clean cloth if it is bleeding. If the bleeding has stopped, cover the area with a bandage (绷带) and take the person to the hospital. Make sure you remember what kind of animal it is, so the doctor can find the right way to treat him or her at once.

Fainting (昏厥) : Have him or her lie with feet lifted a little. Don’t move the body if you think there might be wounds from the fall. Make sure he or she can breathe and let in fresh air. Clean the person’s face with a cool cloth.

Nosebleeds:Have the person sit up with his or her head tilted (倾斜) forward a little. Do not have the person tilt his or her head back because this may cause heavy breathing or coughing. Pinch (捏) the lower part of the nose for at least 10 minutes.

The popular Apple tablet is not only useful for searching the Internet and watching videos, it is also being used to make learning fun.

Scientists now know that we learn better when we are enjoying ourselves, so recently software developers have made iPad applications(应用程序)that look like video games, but have strong educational content. One of the best examples of this new form of teaching application is Futaba, a game in which up to four children try to recognize a spinning(旋转的)object, and then identify what it is. The game can be used to teach English, math, foreign languages, or just about anything, and students love it. Teachers can even make their own questions. The important thing is that children enjoy the game, and don’t even realize how much they are learning!

So the next time you have to choose between making your child study or letting them play games, just remember-they could do both at the same time!

6 . A few days ago, my pet dog died. But before you feel too sorry for me or my dog, you should know that Matty-we named her after the famous baseball player Christy “Matty”. Mathewson-was about 17 years old. She lived a long, happy life before she got so sick that we had to put her to sleep.

I have to say that when we first saw Matty, I did not want a pet. But Matty turned out(结果是) to be a wonderful dog. Matty was a big part of our family life for years.

That’s a good lesson. Sometimes things don’t turn out the way you thought they would. They turn out better. See if this sounds familiar to you. You join a sports team. After some practice or games, you find you don’t like the team as much as you thought you would. Maybe you don’t like the coach or the other kids. Or perhaps you find out you’re not going to be the next LeBron James or Mia Hamm. You want to give up, but your mum and dad say you have to at least finish the season. You don’t want to, but you stay with the team. And, surprise: Things get better. You make a friend or make a few good plays. Maybe the coach tells you you’re going to be a good player.

Most kids and adults (成年人) are pretty sure they know exactly what they want. For example, I was positive years ago that I didn’t want a dog. But life is full of surprises. We change with time. That’s why it’s important for us to try new foods, new hobbies and new sports.

2. The underlined word “positive” in the last paragraph means “________” in Chinese.

4. By telling the story of his dog, the writer wants us to________.
A.have a petB.try new thingsC.join a sports teamD.care our pet

9 . Real policemen can hardly tell any similarity between their lives and what they see on TV.

The first difference is that a policeman’s real life is almost around criminal law. He has to know exactly what actions are crimes and what can be used to prove someone guilty and lead him into prison. He has to know nearly as much law as a professional lawyer, and what is more,he has to apply it on his feet, in the dark and rain, running down a street after someone he wants to talk to.

Little of his time is spent in chatting. He will spend most of his working life typing millions of words on thousands of forms about hundreds of sad, unimportant people who are guilty of stupid crimes.

Most television crime drama is about finding the criminal:as soon as he's arrested, the story is over. In real life, finding a criminal is seldom much of a problem. Except in very serious cases like murders and terrorist attacks, only a little effort is spent on searching.

Having made an arrest, a policeman really starts to work. He has to prove his case so that he often has to look for a lot of different clues.

A third big difference between the drama policeman and the real one is the unpleasant pressures: first, as members of a police force, they always have to behave completely according to the law. Secondly, as expensive public servants, they have to get results. They can hardly ever do both. Most of the time some of them have to break the rules in small ways.

If a policeman has to deceive the world, the world often deceives him. Hardly anyone he meets tells him the truth. And most policemen feel the separation between themselves and the rest of the world is deepened. Most citizens, social workers, doctors, law-makers, and judges are in some ways simple-minded, they suggest not punishing the criminals in a very strict way in the hope that this will make them reform. The result, most policemen feel is that nine-tenths of their work is re-catching people who should have stayed prison. This makes them feel rather bad.

1. Most crime drama on TV ends with         .
A.a terrorist attackB.a criminal's arrest
C.another crime happeningD.the discovery of clues
2. Which of the following statements is true?
A.A policeman needs to spend time chatting and typing on forms.
B.A policeman never searches unless some serious cases take place.
C.A policeman should be professional enough to know the law well.
D.A policeman can break the rules in small ways in order to get results.
3. What can we infer from the underlined sentence?
A.Most policemen feel tired out.B.Strong punishment causes crimes.
C.A policeman's work is boring.D.only a few criminals will reform.
4. The passage mainly tells us         .
A.criminals should behave completely according to the law
B.people usually judge a policeman by his knowledge of law
C.a policeman’s real life is different from what is shown on TV
D.there is separation between the police and the rest of the world
