2 . Have you ever thought about what kind of job you would like to have when you grow up? Many people think that we can have only one job in our lifetime. We all know that this is not true, but quite a few people actually think this way. For example, when people choose a major in college, they think that the decisions they make now will decide their jobs for the rest of their lives. However, there are many examples where people became successful after changing their careers (职业) later in life.

J. K. Rowling (J.K.罗琳), writer of the famous novel Harry Potter, was actually a school teacher before she began writing books. In fact, she was out of work before the first Harry Potter book came out.

Former US President Ronald Reagan (罗纳德.里根) began as an actor when he was a young man. He later decided that he wanted to do political work. This kind of passion (激情) finally led him to become President of the United States.

The famous 19th century artist Vincent Van Gogh (文森特·威廉·梵高) was not a painter from the beginning. He once worked as an art salesman and later became a preacher. It was only 10 years before he died that he decided to become an artist.

Careers are always open to change. The important thing is to find what you are really good at or what you really want to do. Once you find that passion, it’s all a matter of how hard you try.

3 . Born in the 2000s, you are called the oh-ohs. Then what do you think of your generation （一代人）? Maybe you feel proud of yourselves—young, creative, connected, global, smart, or maybe good-looking? But what do other people think about your generation?

Some adults worry that you’re more interested in the phone than the world around you. They see you as the “face-down generation” and wonder how you will deal with school, friends, and family. Are today’s teenagers too busy texting and taking selfies（自拍）to become successful in real life—or “IRL”, as you would say?

Other adults worry that today’s youth are spoiled and don’t want to face the challenges of adult life. Many children born in the 1990s and 2000s were raised by “helicopter parents” who were always there to guide and help their children with a busy schedule（日程表）such as dancing, painting and so on. With parents doing everything for them, today’s young people seem to prefer to live like teenagers even when they are in their 20s or 30s.

Does the face-down generation need a heads-up? Well, probably not. The fact is that many of today’s teenagers are better educated and more creative than past generations. They also seem to be willing to become leaders. More young people than ever volunteer to serve their communities. There are also brave young people such as Malala Yousafzai, the teenager who won the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize for pushing girls’ rights to go to school.

So if you are one of them born in the 2000s, there’s reason to be hopeful about the future. Things are looking up for the face-down generation. It’s possible that you will do great.

4 . Ladies and gentlemen, I returned to this year in a time machine. In the year 2500, we are able to travel through time to any year in the history of the earth. This year is your last chance to change your lifestyle to save the earth.

Beginning in the middle of the 20th century, a few people were worried about polluting the earth’s water and air, but most people did not change their way of life. Instead, they continued to pour dangerous chemicals and other waste into lakes and seas, to drive more and more cars and trucks, and to cut down trees.

By the year 2200, the earth’s water was completely polluted. People could no longer drink water, and they had to use other types of liquids. Scientists said that in the future there might be too many people on the earth. But not enough was done. So, by the year 2300, there were so many people that food became scarce. There was no water to grow food and all of the fish in the lakes and seas died because of pollution. Terrible wars broke out between the rich and the poor. Scientists were working very hard to find another planet in space where humans could live.

By the year 2400, the air was too polluted for humans to breathe. So we had to leave the earth. But only the rich were able to leave. Where did we go? Nowhere. You see scientists did not find another safe planet, so now we must travel around the universe in our space ships. We are still looking for a place to call our home. So, it is up to you to change history. There is still hope. You must change your lifestyle now, before it is too late.

5 . Who is the greatest teacher in Chinese history? Many people will think of Confucius(孔子), whose birthday was September 28. Although he lived over 2,000 years ago, people still remember and respect him for his contribution to the education today.

Confucius lived in the Kingdom of Lu, which lies in Shandong Province. He lived during the Spring and Autumn Period. He had a hard childhood. His father died when he was only 3. His mother brought him up. As a child, he had to work to help his mother,but young Confucius didn’t give up studying. He visited many famous teachers and learned music,history, poetry and sports.

Later, he became a teacher and started the first public school in Chinese history. At that time only children fromnoblefamilies could go to school, but Confucius believed everyone should go to school if they wanted to learn. He had about 3,000 students in his lifetime.

Today ,people still follow Confucius’ lessons. He told us that we all have something worthy to be learned. “When I am with three people of them must be better than me in some areas. I choose their qualities and follow them.”

He also taught us that thinking is very important in study. “All study but no thinking makes people puzzled. All thinking but no study makes people lazy.”

Confucius is not only a great teacher but also a famous thinker with wise thoughts about the world and society. His most important teachings are about kindness and good manners. “A person should be strict with himself, but be kind to others,” he said.

8 . Fights at school sometimes happen. But how can you keep away from a fight? Here’s something you can do.

◇Be calm (冷静). Sometimes, you feel so angry that you really want to teach somebody a lesson. But being angry can’t solve problems. Neither can a fight. Instead, it may bring you more problems. In the school, everyone involved (卷入) in a fight will be punished, no matter who started it. There are no winners in a fight.

◇Shout loudly. If you know someone is coming up behind you to attack, turn toward the person with your hands up in front of your body and loudly say “stop” before walking away. Loud voice can usually make the attacker calm down. If the person doesn’t stop, cry for help by calling out the name of a teacher whose office is nearby.

◇ ▲ Your friend may ask you to join in a fight. Learn to say no. Helping him fight is not really helpful to him. If you really want to give him a hand, try to ask him to give it up. Also, you can tell him if he gets involved in a fight, he may get hurt and be punished. Then, try to learn why he wants a fight and help him find a right way to deal with the problem.

Here are a few ways to motivate（激发）children to do chores.

    1     Children always watch their parents and learn how to act from them, so parents must set a good example and take chores seriously. This motivates children to do chores.

Decide what kinds of chores children do. For younger children, give them easy work, like putting away their toys.     2    

Tell children about the importance of doing chores.     3     Knowing the importance of the chores helps to motivate children to do them.

    4     When children finish the chores on the list, parents can reward（奖励） them by giving them a prize. A chore list also gives children a sense of pride（自豪感） when they finish all their chores.

Give children some money to do more chores.     5     But it is not the best way. It’s best to make children feel that doing chores is the work that they should do.
