文章大意:这是一篇说明文。文章主要列举了四个人学习英语所遇到的困难。

1 . These people are studying English. However, they are now facing some problems.

I am Pablo. I work 50 hours a week as a taxi driver, so I talk to people all day. They understand me, but I know I make a lot of mistakes. No one corrects me. My vocabulary is strong. Grammar is my problem. I’m trying to change little by little. For example, I don’t use the past tense(时态). I always say, “I drive him to the office this morning” instead of “I drove him to the office this morning”.

My name is Maria Luisa. I’m teaching myself English, and I’m good at grammar. However, it’s really difficult to find ways to practise English. I live in an area where everyone speaks my language. My neighbours and friends speak Spanish. I can speak Spanish in the supermarket and at the post office.

I am Li Ping. I understand the grammar and the readings in my class and I think my writing is good, but I’m very nervous when I speak English. I don’t want to make any mistakes because I’m afraid people will think that I’m stupid. Also, my pronunciation isn’t good. When I speak, people often say, “What? Say that again.”

I am Yoshi. I have been in the United States for one year. I’m studying hard and I know grammar well, but the vocabulary is very difficult. When I listen, I don’t understand many of the words. When I try to read, there are three or four new words in every sentence. I feel discouraged.

1. Who may say, “I go to bed late last night”?
A.Yoshi.B.Maria Luisa.C.Pablo.D.Li Ping.
2. What would be the best advice for Maria Luisa?
A.Try to have a wide vocabulary.B.Develop a good knowledge of grammar.
C.Read as many English books as possible.D.Make friends with English-speaking people.
3. Why do people find it hard to understand Li Ping’s English?
A.She speaks at a very fast speed.B.Her voice is very low.
C.Her grammar is terrible.D.She can’t pronounce words in English correctly.
4. What can we learn about Yoshi?
A.He has a very small vocabulary.B.He was born in the United States.
C.He has learned English for years.D.He is very good at listening.

文章大意:这是一篇议论文。文章分析了为什么年轻人不喜欢结交新朋友,并鼓励人们认识新朋友。

2 . When you set a foot outside of your door to drop trash, go to a social event or go for a walk, thoughts like “I hope I don’t see anyone I know” or “please don’t talk to me” may run through your mind. I’ve also said such things to myself. Sometimes the last thing you want to do is to talk with someone, especially someone new.

Why do we go out of our ways to avoid people? Do we think meeting new people is a waste of time? Or are we just lazy, thinking that meeting someone new really is a trouble?

Communication is the key to life. We have been told that many times. Take the past generations, like our parents, for example. They seem to take full advantage of that whole “communication” idea because they grew up talking face to face while Generation-Y grew up staring at screens. We spend hours of our days sitting on Facebook. We send messages to our friends and think about all of the things we want to say to certain people that we don’t have the courage to do in reality.

Nowadays, we are so caught up in our little circle of friends—our comfort zone. We love it that they laugh at our jokes, understand our feelings and can read our minds. Most importantly, they know when we want to be alone. They just get us.

Holding a conversation with someone new means agreeing with things that you don’t really believe and being someone you think they want you to be—it is, as I said before, a trouble. It takes up so much energy, and at some point or another, it is too tiring.

But meeting new people is important. Life is too short, so meet all the people you can meet, make the effort to go out and laugh. Remember, every “hello” leads to a smile—and a smile is worth a lot.

1. What do we learn about the author?
A.He likes to meet someone new.B.He feels stressed out lately.
C.He’s active in attending social events.D.He used to be afraid of talking to others.
2. What’s the problem of Generation-Y in the author’s eyes?
A.They rely on the Internet to socialize.B.They are less confident in themselves.
C.They have difficulty in communicating.D.They are unwilling to make new friends.
3. Why do many young people avoid meeting new people?
A.They think it troublesome.B.They are busy with their study.
C.They fear to disappoint their friends.D.They want to do meaningful work.
4. Why does the author write the text?
A.To stress the importance of friends.
B.To give tips on how to meet new people.
C.To encourage people to meet new people.
D.To display the disadvantages of Generation-Y.

文章大意:这是一篇说明文。文章主要讲的是决定蔬菜食用效果的一些影响因素以及推荐食用蔬菜的方法。

3 . By now, most people know they should be eating more vegetables. But are there ways to get more from the vegetables you already eat? A research shows that when it comes to vegetables, it’s not only how much we eat, but also how we prepare them, that decides the vitamins and other nutrients that enter our body.

Many studies show that people who eat lots of vegetables have less heart disease, and eye problems and even cancer. But raw vegetables are not always best. The researchers found that 198 Germans who eat raw food were short of lycopene, the matter found in tomatoes and other red vegetables. “There is an idea that raw foods are always going to be better,” says Steven K. Clinton, a professor at Ohi o State University. “For fruits and vegetables, sometimes a little bit of cooking can be helpful.”

A number of factors decide how the vegetables do good to people’s health before they reach the table, including where and how they were grown and stored before being bought. No single cooking way is best. Some nutrients are easily lost in cooking if they are cooked in different ways.

Vitamins C and B are often lost. In January, another report said that boiling was better for carrots than frying or serving them raw. Frying was the worst way to cook.

What cooked with the vegetables can also be important? When the vegetables were cooked with fat, the diners can get more nutrients. Fat can also make the taste of vegetables better, meaning that people will eat more of them. Putting on some other things that make it taste better—a little salt—can make the food taste better.

1. The writer mainly wants to tell us that ________.
A.people should eat more vegetables
B.the way people eat vegetables is important
C.eating vegetables is good for us
D.how much vegetables one should eat
2. The people who eat the raw vegetables for a long time will ________.
A.have the eyes problemsB.have heart disease
C.be in need of lycopeneD.hate eating tomatoes
3. The following decide how the vegetables do good to people EXCEPT ________.
A.the place where the vegetables are grown
B.the way how the vegetables are stored
C.the way how the vegetables are prepared
D.the price at which the vegetable are sold
4. From the last paragraph, we can know ________.
A.It’s better to cook vegetables with fat
B.the more fat in the cooking, the fewer vegetables people will eat
C.It’s better to cook the vegetables without salt
D.the fat will increase the nutrition of the vegetables

文章大意:这是一篇记叙文。主要讲述了作者小时候和父亲去海滩的遭遇使作者开始害怕水,直到自己游过温特沃思湖时,才克服对水的恐惧的经历。

4 . At eleven, I decided to learn to swim. There was a pool at the YMCA offering exactly the opportunity. My mother continually warned against it, and kept fresh in my mind the details of each drowning in the river. But the YMCA pool was safe.

I had a childhood fear of water. This started when I was three years old and my father took me to the beach. The huge waves knocked me down and swept over me.

The pool was quiet. I was afraid of going in all alone, so I sat on one side of the pool to wait for others. Then came a big boy. He yelled, “Hi, how’d you like to be ducked?” With that he picked me up and threw me into the deep end.I landed in a sitting position, and swallowed water. But I was not frightened out of my wits—when my feet hit the bottom, I would make a big jump to come out of the surface. It seemed a long way down. I gathered all my strength when I landed and made what I thought was a great spring upwards. Then I opened my eyes and saw nothing but water. I tried to yell but no sound came out. 文章大意:这是一篇说明文。本文阐述了学生到了新的学校,遇到了新的老师同学,在一个陌生的环境里,怎样度过新学年的第一天。

7 . It’s school time again! You’re probably feeling excited and maybe a little sad that summer is over. Some kids feel nervous or a little scared on the first day of school because of all the new things: new teachers, new friends, and even a new school. Luckily, these “new” worries only stick around for a little while. Let’s find out more about going to a new school.

Most teachers kick off the new school year by introducing themselves and talking about all the stuff you’ll be doing that year. Some teachers give students a chance to tell something about themselves to the rest of the class, too. When teachers do the talking on the first day, they often go over classroom rules and school rules so you’ll know what’s allowed and what’s not. Please pay close attention.

You might already know a lot of people in your classes on the first day, but it’s a great day to make a new friend, so try to say hello to kids you know and new ones that you don’t. Make the first move and you’ll be glad you did, and so will your new friend!

Seeing friends you haven’t seen for some time can make the first day a good one. You can make the day feel special by wearing clothes that you really like. Maybe you got a great T-shirt on one of your vacations, or a pair of sneakers (运动鞋). It also can make you feel good to be prepared and have all the things you need, such as pencils, folders, and whatever else you’ll be needing. But make sure that you pack them the night before in case you don’t have time in the morning.

1. The underlined phrase “kick off” in the second paragraph probably means “________”.
A.startB.studyC.findD.learn
2. The last paragraphs mainly tell us about ________.
A.what to know about a new schoolB.how to prepare for a new school
C.what to do on your first day of schoolD.how to spend your first day of school
3. According to the passage you usually do everything on the first day of school except ________.
A.introduce yourselfB.learn about the school rules
C.make new friendsD.go over your lessons
4. If you happen to see an old friend on the first day of school, from the passage we know that you will feel ________.

文章大意:本文属于说明文,主要介绍了互联网正影响着英国年轻人现在的职业选择。

9 . Twenty-five years ago, most young Britons wanted a career in law, to be a doctor, or, if they were creative enough, to take up singing. But today, things stand differently.

According to a survey by Tesco Mobile, a UK company, the “dream job” of young people aged between 16 and 25 in the UK is a video blogger (写博客的人), or “vlogger (视频博主)”.The survey, carried out among 1,002 people, found that as many as 40 percent of them put vloggers as their number one choice on a list of ideal careers.

This change is undoubtedly as a result of the Internet and social media. They have made it so much easier to reach the audience of the world, without having to enter a career in show business in the traditional way.

In the past, the biggest stars were trained by the Hollywood studios; now, anyone with a computer camera can become a star. Vloggers are the big stars of today because they are normal people interacting (交流) with their fans about everyday life.

However, what people see is only the bright side of being a vlogger and they fail to notice the fact that only those who are successful earn fame (名声) and fortune. For every success there are hundreds of others who never get off the starting line. There are the dreams that come true and the dreams that remain dreams forever.

Although being vloggers is popular, some young people choose to follow careers that don’t necessarily earn them fame, but allow them to make good use of the Internet to share their hobbies.Young Israeli David Leshaw, for example, runs a business called the Finishers Club. It’s an online platform for runners to keep a record of their races. His job allows him to express his enthusiasm, and is always a learning experience. And that’s enough for him.

1. Why do more and more young Britons choose to be vloggers?
A.Vloggers can earn little fame and money on the Internet.
B.There is too much competition in the traditional show business.
C.The Internet makes it convenient to become vloggers.
D.Anyone with a computer will surely become a star.
2. What can we infer from the fifth paragraph?
A.Only a few vloggers can be successful.B.A vlogger can not earn fame or fortune.
C.Being a vlogger is not a good career.D.Dreams will come true one day.
3. What do some young people like David do on the Internet?
A.Learn from others.B.Become an online hit.
C.Hold running races.D.Mix jobs with hobbies.
4. What is the passage mainly about?
A.Most young Britons choose to be vloggers as their jobs.
B.The Internet is influencing young Britons’ career choice.
C.The Internet is taking the place of traditional studios.
D.Young Britons can not find jobs without the Internet.

文章大意:本文是说明文。本文讲述了一些对抗懒惰的方法,如调整睡眠,坚持锻炼,平衡膳食等,也告诫我们不能被懒惰打败,否则一生不能成事,没有收获。

10 . Lazy people will never gain anything in life. However, laziness can be defeated once a few changes have been made in your mind.

One way to fight laziness is to get enough sleep. Many people lack sleep constantly, since they stay up too late and get up too early to prepare for work. These people have little motivation once they arrive home. Laziness works hand in hand with a lack of motivation and a tendency to put off things. By adjusting your sleep schedule to provide a few more hours of meaningful rest, you can fight laziness throughout the day.

Another way to fight laziness is to change your mind from passive to active. Some people treat their lives as if they were pushed from task to task. Others take a more positive approach, viewing each task as a challenge they must overcome alone. Laziness appears when you no longer feel in charge of your own mind.

Some people fight laziness by removing the temptations that surround them. A television in the living room may provide entertainment, but watching too much TV often contributes to laziness. Create a reward system for yourself, just as parents do for a child. Complete a few tasks and reward yourself with what you enjoy, such as a good dinner or a film.

Laziness can also be a lasting problem at home. Couples and children may all have different energy levels, but laziness can be spread if not dealt with immediately. To fight family laziness, set an example. Be the first to collect and wash dishes after a meal. Others in the home may eventually follow your example and perform their own task. It is difficult to practice laziness when you are surrounded by motivated (积极的) people.

Finally, taking exercise regularly can help you fight laziness. Enough exercise and a balanced diet can help you to develop a healthy lifestyle, thus enabling you to have more energy and help lift your spirits.

1. How many ways have been mentioned in this passage to defeat laziness?
A.3B.4C.5D.6
2. According to Paragraph 2, we can know that__________.
A.people who don’t get enough seep must be lazy
B.people who lack of motivation must be lazy
C.people who stay up too late and get up too early must be lazy
D.people who adjust their seep schedule mustn’t be lazy
3. The underlined word “temptations” is closest in meaning to__________.
A.ExcitementsB.Happiness
C.AttractionsD.entertainments
4. Which of the following is the best title for the passage?
A.How to fight laziness?
B.Laziness does great harm to our life.
C.Lazy people will never gain anything.
D.Laziness can be defeated.
