3 . Workout fads (狂热) come and go, but virtually no other exercise program is as lasting as yoga(瑜伽). It originated from India and it’s been around for more than 5,000 years.
People of all ages and fitness levels can do the most basic yoga poses and stretches. You can do yoga anywhere, indoors or out. You’ll need to use a yoga mat to keep you from sliding around in standing poses, and to cushion you while in seated and lying positions.
Even though there are many instructional books and DVDs on yoga, it is well worth it to invest in some classes with a good instructor who can show you how to do the postures. But if you don’t live near a studio, or you’re the on-the-go type who struggles to make time for a regular class, doing yoga at home can help you fit the practice into your life.
A.Yoga is a great way to strengthen your body. |
B.Other optional equipment may also be needed. |
C.There are more than 100 different forms of yoga. |
D.Now it is a popular practice throughout the world. |
E.Therefore, yoga facilities are necessities for your exercise. |
F.Yoga has long been praised for its physical and spiritual benefits. |
G.You don’t have to wait for a specific class time or commit to a class. |
4 . Feeling sleepy in the middle of the day? There are many reasons why we get sleepy in the afternoon. Bad lighting, a poor night’s sleep, a boring job, large (carb-heavy) lunches, and more can all contribute to head-bobbing at your desk or falling into a light sleep during a meeting. The best course of action would be to find the root cause of your sleep issue and fix it, but most of us simply head for the coffee pot or the cafe. Instead of that, try climbing some stairs.
Well, now exercise researchers have discovered that walking up and down lights of stairs for about 10 minutes actually gives you a more effective boost (提高) of energy than drinking 50 milligrams of caffeine greedily (the average amount of caffeine found in a cup of coffee, tea, or soda).
In a study called Stair walking, the researchers enlisted 18 “physically active” college women between the ages 18 and 23. The participants reported experiencing chronically poor sleep, adding up to an average of fewer than 45 hours of shuteye each week in the past few years. And they are often a lack of available time during the workday for a dedicated exercise session.
The researchers chose stair climbing as the exercise of choice. Walking up and down the stairs requires no specific clothing, travel time, or even a shower afterward. During the study, on some days the participants alternated (交替) between taking 50-milligram caffeine pills or a placebo. On the other days, they skipped the caffeine (real or otherwise) and climbed up and down the stairs, at a moderate pace, for 10 minutes.
At the conclusion of the study, the researchers acknowledged that there is more research to be done (when isn’t that the case?) but concluded that “A short period of low-to-moderate intensity stair walking has temporary energizing effects that exceed a low dose of caffeine for active young women with chronic insufficient sleep.”
So, the next time you find yourself nodding off mid-afternoon, why not give stairs a try?

7 . Leek Town Warriors was a girls’ football team Which used to get routinely defeated every time they turned out, until James Henry stepped in two years ago. He took the job when the previous coach quit and transformed the team’s fortunes. With the help of his assistant Andy Austin, they started training hard in April 2020.
Some players had never kicked a football before joining the team, so training them took hours of hard work and patience. After a good few weeks, they got down to training and really started to take it in what the coach wanted. “I insist on doing the basic stuff well and letting the girls decide what they feel they need to work on.” James said.
James’ first season was ruined by the pandemic, which forced him and Andy to get creative with training. They organized team-building activities with the girls to help them bond on and off the field. James then spent the sessions they could hold focusing on the basics of football like passing and shooting, bringing the girls up to a good standard.
James watched the girls develop over the course of last year, and in September they played their first match of the new season. They won the game, and since then went on an unbeaten run of eight games. The team’s star player, 15-year-old Chelsea, has also impressed the audience individually, becoming the top scorer in the league with incredible 30 goals.
James said, “All the effort that the girls, us coaches and parents have put in to get this point has been enormous. If I hadn’t had the Support of Andy helping me every week, this would have been an impossible task. So I’m incredibly grateful to have him on side. All we want is to bring more girls into the game and show that it’s not all about having the best players; it’s about hard work and giving everyone the chance to play.”

8 . At the beginning of Grade Two, I joined the cross-country running team in our school.
When I came to the first practice, I was filled with optimism. But as the distance we ran in each practice gradually increased from three to four, to six miles, I realized with surprise that no matter how hard I tried, I wasn’t able to run as fast as others. In fact, I was one of the slowest on the team.
What was the point of putting myself through so much pain? After the first few weeks, I wanted to quit.
Then we had our first cross-country meet.
When we started the race, I felt the great pressure of expectations sink onto my shoulders. And after a while I stopped running and struggled to walk up the hill. But then I heard my coaches shouting my name from the top of the hill. I felt confused and embarrassed; why were they cheering for me? I was running terribly! As I tried my best to finish the race, I realized that my coaches didn’t care how fast I ran. Neither did my teammates. During the rest of the season, they were always on the sidelines of every race, cheering for me just as loudly as they’d cheered for the front runner.
From then on, I began to put my effort into supporting my teammates instead of focusing on my own performance. In that way, I celebrated my teammates’ victories as if they were my own; I felt their pain and exhaustion as if they were my own.
Cross-country running made me realize I don’t need to be the best to be successful in life. It taught me to value my relationships with people more than my relationship with my ego. It taught me to cheer for others even if I don’t know their names.
