1 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

How exciting! Today is my basketball Grand-final! My team of six enthusiastic boys led by our coach, Jack, has worked extremely hard just to make the finals. My heart was pounding a hundred kilometres an hour as I walked into our home ground. As I hurried to our team bench, our opponents caught my attention. They seemed a lot taller and “meaner” looking.

Whistle blew. Five of us started on the court. Our opponent got hold of the ball first. They were unbelievably fast. They kept breaking our defences and kept scoring goals. Excited parents were cheering so much that their faces were as red as beetroots. Even our best, Bryce, could not stop our opponents from scoring, which annoyed him a lot. By half time, both teams were extremely exhausted and our opponents were ten goals ahead, which presented us with an enormous but achievable challenge.

Jack was awfully anxious as we were not playing anywhere near our best. He told us that we could still win if we made our transitions much quicker so that penalty shots came our way.He also directed us to rebound (抢断篮板) and position ourselves better to receive and score goals. Most important, he reminded us to play as a team.

Our team was all fired up. The second half started in our favour. We were as quick as lightning on the court. We were dribbling (运球), passing, shooting and rebounding without any mistakes. We caught our opponents by surprise. The scores were almost level. We were trailing only by one point. The crowd was growing wild with excitement, fuelling our confidence. At the same time, our opponents switched back to attention and started playing like what they did in the first half, making it harder for us to score.

One minute left! Our opponent threw in the ball but I managed to steal it! Our team was bursting with happiness! More opponents were heading my way and I had to pass the ball to Bryce. Instead of passing on the ball, he did the most unexpected thing. He tried to score from half court! He missed by miles!

2 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。续写的词数应为150左右。

Everyone wants a blue ribbon (丝带). Blue. First place. The best. In sports,1 was never a blue-ribbon girl. In a race, I was always last. In baseballl was as likely to get hit on the head as to drop the ball. Where I got my horrible sports ability, I don't know.

During the spring of my kindergarten year, our class had a field trip to a park. Looking back now, I don't remember much of that day. I'm sure we ate our sack lunches and played on the swings typical 6-year-old stuff. Then it was time for the races.

These were no ordinary races. Some parents had come up with the idea to have the picnic kind of races, like passing the potato under your neck and holding an egg on a spoon while you run to the other side. I don't remember too much about these, but there was one race that will forever be lodged (牢记) in my memory - the three-legged race.

The parents decided not to use potato sacks for this particular race. Instead, they tied our feet together. One lucky little boy got me for a partner. This little boy was the second most athletic boy in our class. I'm sure he knew he was in trouble the second they laced his foot to mine. As for me, I was embarrassed. This guy was a winner. He almost always won, and I knew that, with me, he didn't have a chance.

He laced his arm with mine, the gun sounded, and we were off to the other side. Couples were falling and stumbling (绊脚) all around us, but we stayed on our feet and made it to the other side. Unbelievably, when we turned around and headed back for home, we were in the lead! Only one other couple even had a chance, and they were a good several yards behind us.

Paragraph l:

Then only feet from the finish line, disaster struck.

Paragraph 2:

After the race, we were awarded a red ribbon instead of the blue one.

5 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一个完整的短文。

“Number 7, Jobie Nymble, takes the lead,” cried the announcer. “Just one more hurdle and…”Cheers erupted.

“Jobie Nymble from Riverside Middle School takes first place in the girl's 100-meter hurdles!”

“County championships, here we come,” screamed Jobie, patting her worn neon-green track shoes. They were bursting at the seams, but she didn't care. They were her lucky shoes and she loved them. “Next Saturday, we're taking home the gold,” Jobie whispered to her lucky track shoes, excitedly retying them. Pop! She sighed as she stared at the broken-off piece of shoelaces dangling between her fingers.

“Don't forget, guys,” chirped Marisol, one of her teammates. “My birthday party is next Friday at Hidden Park.”

“Beep. Party recorded in calendar,” joked Jobie in her best robot voice.

Next weekend couldn't come soon enough. Jobie was excited all week long. At track practice, she leaped over those hurdles faster than she'd ever leaped before.

The day of Marisol's party, Jobie put on her favorite outfit and her lucky track shoes. "Perfect." She smiled at herself in the mirror.

The party was in full swing when Jobie arrived. She saw two of her teammates rushing toward her, breathless and barefoot. “Come on,” they said excitedly, “You have to try the slide”. “Slide? What sli…” Suddenly, she saw it. The BIGGEST inflatable slide she had ever seen was on the far side of the park. Without thinking twice, Jobie threw aside her shoes and run toward the slide. Its ladder stretched to the sky but she reached the top in no time. She slid down, and closed her eyes as she let go. “Woo-hoo!”

Jobie couldn't get enough. When it was finally time to go home, she reluctantly made her way back to the track where she'd left her shoes. As she eyed the area from a distance, panic set in.

7 . 阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。

“No 7, Jobie Nymble, takes the lead,” cried the announcer. “Just one more hurdle (跨栏) and ...” Cheers broke out. “Jobie Nymble from Riverside Middle School takes first place in the girls’ 100-meter hurdles!” The crowd went wild.

“County championships (锦标赛), here we come,” screamed Jobie, patting her green track spikes (钉鞋). They were her lucky shoes and she loved them. “Next Saturday, we’re taking home the gold,” Jobie whispered to her spikes, excitedly retying them.

“Don’t forget, guys,” said Marisol, one of her teammates. “My birthday party is next Friday at Hidden Park.”

Next weekend couldn’t come soon enough. Jobie smiled with excitement all week long. At track practice, she leaped over those hurdles faster than she’d ever leaped before. And it wasn’t long before everything in her path was a hurdle: flowerpots in her front yard, sidewalk cracks on the way to the bus stop and even her little sister, Teka!

The day of Marisol’s party, Jobie put on her favorite outfit: her blue shorts, an old track T-shirt from her dad, and her lucky spikes. “Perfect.” She smiled at herself in the mirror.

The party was under way when Jobie arrived at Hidden Park. She stopped by the track first, planning to do some practice.

“Jobie!” Two of Jobie’s teammates rushed toward her, breathless and barefoot. “Come on,” they yelled. “You have to try the slide.”

Jobie looked toward the party area. Suddenly, she saw it. The biggest slide she had ever seen was on the far side of the park. Smiling kids zoomed down the slide at unspeakable speeds. Without thinking twice, Jobie took off her spikes and dashed (猛冲) toward the slide. Its ladder stretched to the sky, but she reached the top in no time, closed her eyes and let go.

Jobie couldn’t get enough. She tried again and again. When it was finally time to go home, she unwillingly made her way back to the track where she’d left her shoes.

8 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

It was the swim season, but Elizabeth didn’t like swim meets. She got horribly nervous but not because she wanted to win. Her nerves came from the possibility that she would do something horribly wrong and let everyone down. The day of a meet, she would be scared all day.

Recently, Elizabeth’s team announced a special swim night: Members 11 and older would swim a timed 50 meters in all four strokes and then have pizza. It wasn’t exactly a meet, because it would involve only team members. Elizabeth countered that it absolutely was a meet because there would be races and timers and so on. But her mother really wanted her to go. She fought back furiously but finally agreed.

When the day of the special swim night arrived, Elizabeth was nervous. When she got to the pool with her parents, she became even more nervous.

Her first race was the 50-meter freestyle. She swam her backstroke and breaststroke without incident. It wasn’t fun for Elizabeth. Her butterflies just kept flapping.

Then it was time for the T-shirt relay, which works like this: One person from each relay team puts on a T-shirt, a pair of socks, and a swim cap; swims 50 meters; and gets out of the pool. She takes off the clothes and puts them on the next person, who then swims 50 meters. This continues until everyone on the team has completed a lap.

For some unknown reason, Elizabeth’s relay team chose her to swim the anchor leg(最后一棒). The team dressed her in socks and a T-shirt. And then she was off. She seemed to swim faster in the T-shirt and socks than she did when she wasn’t wearing them.

Approaching the halfway mark, she was still in the lead. Then somebody noticed that one of Elizabeth’s socks had fallen off and was floating in the pool. “She has to get that sock on before the end of the race,” a swimming official told Elizabeth’s team, “or you will be disqualified.”

After watching my son Todd run in an annual race. I made my usual comment. “Todd I could walk faster than those women run.” Todd laughed as he knew I wasn't a runner. “Listen, Mom. I want you to show by your actions. How about you running with me next year at this race?” Without thinking, I quickly agreed to this challenge.

But when it was almost time for this race to occur, Todd wasn't going to be running. He was sent to Africa as a soldier for three years. A few of his friends knew this challenge I had agreed to with Todd. They started to encourage me to run the race. I hadn't trained or anything. Quite frankly, I had almost forgotten I said I would do it.

I decided I should keep my promise to Todd and run the race. The first thing I did was go out and buy some running clothes. I might as well look good was my thought. even though I hadn't trained at all.

However, this guy was very talkative. He kept making remark on how tired he was, and I must be tired too. The race was over, and this guy's wife won! I was just happy to finish and keep my promise to Todd.

I came home, and my neighbor asked about the race. I told him what had happened and how this guy would not shut up his negative talk. My neighbor laughed and set me straight," Kay. don't you know what this guy was doing? He thought you were the competition by the way you were dressed. He wanted his wife to win "Oh really!”

Everyone has their own strengths and weaknesses! Turning our weaknesses into strengths makes us unbeatable. This is an inspiring story of a 12-year-old boy Kim who defeated his weakness, by unknowingly making it his strength.

Poor Kim lost his left hand in a terrible accident. His parents could not comfort him. To cheer him up, his father made him join a Judo(柔道) school. As the boy always wanted to learn Judo, his father thought that this would make him happy.

Everyone wondered how a single armed boy could learn Judo. However, the master happily accepted him. He trained in Judo for about 8 months. He practiced nothing but a single stroke(击) . He trained for all 8 months in mastering a single stroke. The boy was surprised and sometimes annoyed as his master taught him only one stroke.

Yet, he said nothing. The boy mastered the stroke and grew as nobody could excel(胜过) in doing that particular stroke. The boy was picked by the master to compete in the national level Judo championship tournament(比赛).

Everyone made fun of Kim and the master. How a one-handed boy could win a national championship? Even the boy was not sure about why his master chose him.

Surprisingly, Kim easily defeated his six contenders(竞争者) with his single stroke. He gradually moved to semi-finals. He struggled a bit in the semi-finals and won again.

Needless to say, it surprised everyone and the final match began.
