2 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

Mary waited anxiously for her turn in the empty dressing room. Never had she been so nervous before. This competition was of vital importance to her comeback. “If I can win today,” she said to herself, “I can dance on the national stage next month.” Three months ago, she hurt her left arm in a car accident. After the medical treatment, she began to recover slowly. She practiced over and over again in order to regain her dancing skills.

“Hi, Mary,” in rushed her friend Jessica. “How is your arm? Is it going to affect your performance?”

“I guess it can be tolerated for I am to win the match,” said Mary with a determined look.

“Admirable! But I hear that a girl called Linda is really gifted and strong. She can be your real well-matched competitor. Come on!”

After Jessica left, Mary decided to practice the most difficult spin (高速旋转). “If I don’t try harder, I won’t grasp this chance,” she thought. But her arm began to hurt, making her worried. After the pain was gone, she continued to warm up.

Then a slim girl hurried in and put down a bag on the chair. Then, she took out her dance dress quickly and put it on skillfully. Seeing Mary, she smiled politely and said, “Hi, I’m Linda. I am a participant in the competition, too.” Mary nodded in reply but felt uncomfortable. “She is just my competitor. Because of her, I may lose tonight.” Her mind was wandering when Linda screamed, “Oh, I can’t find my music tape!” Linda searched her bag but in vain. “It might have been missing on the way.” With these words, she then rushed out.

6 . Why I love swimming

If you were to ask me what my favorite sport is, my answer would be swimming. I started learning how to swim when I was five years old and I have been swimming ever since.    1

The first reason that I love swimming is that it can be quite relaxing . I love the feeling of floating on the water and feeling almost weightless.    2

3     Swimming offers many different strokes(划水动作), so it doesn’t feel like you are stuck doing the same thing over and over again. Adding swimming equipment like large flat rubber shoes that you wear to help you swim faster, or a tube that allows you to breathe air under water changes the experience yet again and can help you develop your swimming technique.

In the summer, swimming provides a nice, refreshing break!    4    The pool makes you feel instantly better. And I think it adds to the summer holiday feeling, as for me the summer months are when I swim the most.    5    You can choose to swim in a swimming pool or to splash in the sea.

And finally, it’s a life skill which everyone should have. Not only is it good for your health, but you never know when you’ll need your ability to swim.

A.I can even encourage you to go for a swim.
B.There are many reasons why I love swimming.
C.I find that whenever I leave the pool I feel totally relaxed.
D.On the other hand, it can also be a fast-paced competitive sport.
E.There’s nothing better than jumping into the water on a hot summer day..
F.It is a sport which can be done all over the world in many beautiful locations.
G.Another reason that I love swimming is that it has more variety than other sports.

Girls who play sports do better in school. You might think that athletics will take up all your study time.     2     Exercise improves learning, memory, and concentration, which can give active girls an advantage in the classroom.

10 . During the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, many world records were broken. They fell in swimming, cycling, running and a number of other sports. How do athletes continue to get better, jump longer, run or swim faster? Although scientists say that athletes have reached their limits(极限), records continue to fall. In almost every sport athletes have become better since the Olympic movement began.

One reason is that more and more people than ever before have access to sports and exercise. They start at an earlier age and can compete longer in their sports. In schools more and more natural talents can be discovered. Another reason is that athletes can train harder and, as professionals, concentrate wholly on their sports instead of rushing to a training session after their day job. As medicine improves, athletes can stay in competition for a longer time and overcome injuries faster. Technology has also helped improve scores and equipment is getting better. One of the most important factors, however, is the human mind. It lies in our nature to be better and faster than someone else. The will to break a barrier(障碍)can release great power in your body.

So, where are the limits? Some years ago, nobody thought a person could run under 10 seconds in the 100-meter dash. But the record was broken at the 1968 Mexico City Olympics. At the moment Usain Bolt is the fastest man on earth at 9.58 seconds. Scientists say that 9.48 may be the absolute(绝对的)limit for running such a distance, but, who knows, maybe some runner will one day run under 9 seconds.

1. What does the underlined word “fall” in Paragraph 1 mean?
A.Change.B.Increase.
C.Drop down.D.Be broken.
2. What can we learn from Paragraph 2?
A.Training session is popular with athletes.
B.People’s will plays a key role in their winning.
C.More and more people are interested in sports.
D.Athletes are free from injuries because of technology.
3. Why does the author tell us about Usain Bolt?
A.To prove no one can break his record
B.To show he is the most successful runner.
C.To tell us we won’t know human beings’ limits.
D.To explain why a human being can run so fast.
4. What’s the main idea of the text?
A.Have athletes reached their limits?
B.Get better, jump longer and run faster
C.Why do athletes keep breaking world records?
D.Many world records were broken in Olympic Games.
