1 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

I grew up in southeastern Michigan. I was a fan of Detroit Tigers, a famous baseball team, as a young boy.

My childhood dream was to be like my hero, Al Kaline, and someday play for the Tigers. My Dad would take me to Tiger Stadium several times a year and my hero Al Kaline would never let me down. We never attended a game that he didn’t get at least one hit.

I was crazy about baseball. If there was a game in my high school, I was never absent. I kept practising so that I could achieve my dream of playing for the Tigers, and I was doing well at each level of play. Later, I got a chance to sign up for a strong American Legion baseball program. There I met our coach, Bob Ohm, who knew a lot of baseball and taught each of us the basics as well as more advanced baseball skills. With Bob Ohm’s help and my hard work, I had set new records in many baseball championships.

My dream to be like my hero seemed to draw near. One summer, I went up to play the final season in Marinette. There were scouts who came to find the best players. This was it! My big chance!

Well, as the game progressed I hit the ball very well getting five hits in the game. Unfortunately, I also made four mistakes. The final mistake actually drew laughter from the crowd.

2 . How To Know When to Quit Your Job

A lot of us get frustrated with our jobs. But how do we know when we need to take a real change?    1     There are several factors that you should think about and discuss with your family before quitting your job.

Determine if your job is affecting your health. If the stress from your job is affecting your physical or psychological health, it is a sure sign that it is time to leave. No amount of money or status is worth ruining your health, since you won’t be able to enjoy any of the things you have worked so hard for.     2

Think about whether or not you can continue to grow in your position.     3       It’s important to be in a job that enables you to grow both personally and professionally. If you can’t grow, you should think about quitting your job.

4       Can you live for a little while without an income while you look for jobs? Do you get paid what you deserve? These are factors to take into consideration when you think about quitting your job.

Consider your other offers. Unless you become independently wealthy, you’ll probably need to get another job. Are the other offers as good as what you have?     5

A.Check out your job prospects.
B.Analyze your financial situation.
C.In that case, it may be better to leave.
D.This will reduce your stress as well as your debt!
E.If they aren’t, you might want to think again about quitting.
F.Being bored at work is an easy way to become dissatisfied.
G.Quitting your job is a serious decision that requires much thought.

4 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

“Thank you so much for taking the time to apply for the position,” the email read, “Your application has not been successful. We wish you every success in securing a suitable position in the future.”

I received the email two weeks after interviewing for a job. When I read it, I felt disappointed and angry — not just because I hadn’t gotten the job. I was disappointed because I’d spent days preparing for the interview, but in the end, I didn’t even know why I wasn’t successful. “How can I adapt my job search approach if I don’t know what went wrong?” I thought. How I hoped that someone could tell me how to do it well in the interview to be accepted by interviewers.

The disappointment came to me again a few months after I received another job rejection email. After applying for a job at a consulting company, I spent months working my way through the whole recruiting (招聘) and interview process before getting a phone call from a company representative. “Unfortunately, we have decided to offer the job to someone else,” the voice said. Again I felt upset. But the conversation wasn’t over. “Would you like to hear feedback (反馈) from us?” the voice asked. I immediately said “yes”.

The representative went on to tell me I hadn’t clearly expressed my motivation for applying for the position and why I wanted to work for the company. The feedback was tough to hear, but I quickly realized they were right. After completing my Ph.D. in Germany, my top priority had been to find a position in Poland, where I grew up. As a result, I wasn’t very selective about what I applied for; I pursued any job opportunity that broadly fitted my skills and interests. The job at the consulting company was something I was technically capable of doing, but I didn’t feel passionate about it — and that clearly showed in the interview process.

文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。文章旨在帮助读者评估自己的职业机会并了解大局。

5 . You can assess your opportunities and see the big picture by reflecting on the following questions:

What are your hard and soft skills? Hard skills are teachable abilities and skill sets that are fairly easy to quantify. In contrast, soft skills are interpersonal skills or people skills.     1     For example, if you are expert at multiple languages, you could pursue a career as a translator or a multinational content writer. Likewise, if you are excellent at collaborative (协作的) teamwork but have poor time management skills, you may want to seek a collaborative working environment with flexible work schedules.

What kind of work-life balance are you aiming for? Some people are happy to work 9, 10, or even 12 hours a day for the sake of advancing their careers. Others need more time to spend with their families and friends, on their studies, or on other ventures.     2

What industries interest you? Once you have a list of industries that arouse your interest, start seeking out opportunities within those sectors. Ensure that they agree with your preferred work-life balance and skill set as well.     3     Instead, think about the kind of impact you want to have and how you want to work.

4     In some cases, you may need to return to college or sign up for online courses to gain the right qualifications for your dream career. With microlearning, there are plenty of educational and engaging ways to learn new skills and information. Returning to school could be key to boosting your marketable skills and credentials (资质).     5     It could also broaden your horizons and introduce you to new career opportunities you hadn’t considered before.

A.What is your current educational level?
B.What kind of education is suitable for you?
C.So don’t get too hung up on a specific title or industry.
