3 . It’s a beautiful fall day. Before we camp near the river, the children dashed along the water’s edge, leaping off the bank into the slow current, pushing through the mud. The scene is happily familiar. We’ve been coming to rivers since our daughters were babies. In the beginning we went to the wilderness because my husband and I loved it and selfishly wanted them to love it, too. Now we go because we can’t live without it.

According to a report released in February, teenagers in the U.S. are in the midst of an alarming mental health crisis. A survey conducted in fall 2021 found that 30% of teen girls have seriously considered suicide, a jump of 60% in the past decade. Boys are struggling, too. The CDC report calls for greater school involvement in supporting at-risk kids, better access to mental-health services and higher standards for health education. As the mother of two teenage girls, these statistics are terrifying. What can we as parents do?

For our family, the answer has always been nature. After they started school, wilderness trips became our way of disconnecting from our digitized lives, and reconnecting with each other ourselves and the natural world. What began as a family experiment was now a cornerstone in our parenting philosophy: a way of raising healthy, curious, kind, resilient (对困境有承受力的) kids in an increasingly messy world.

I’ve seen firsthand how even a few nights out a few times a year have taught our daughter valuable life skills like cooperation, compassion, resilience, problem-solving and adaptability, which is relevant to everything we do in life.

Will our strategy work? We’re still in the thick of the experiment, so it’s too soon to tell. All we can do is pay attention, keep talking, keep trying and keep going.

1. What might be the initial reason for the couple to take their daughters to nature?
A.They loved going to the wilderness.
B.Their daughters liked camping.
C.It was a beautiful day for an outing.
D.It started as a family experiment.
2. What does the author indicate by mentioning the report?
A.Americans are suffering mental crisis.
B.Girls tend to be more helpless than boys.
C.The findings have aroused social concern.
D.No mental-health services could be accessed.
3. What does Paragraph 3 focus on?
A.Why she loves taking her daughters to the wild.
B.What they experience in the outdoor adventures.
C.How the daughters’ growth has been transformed.
D.How the daughters balance schooling and recreation.
4. What do the daughters learn from nature?
A.How to play in the wild.B.How to be positive.
C.How to conquer nature.D.How to see connections.

文章大意:本文是记叙文,讲述了一位八十高龄妇女从事空中滑翔的故事。

4 . After their three children grew up and left home, Margaret Thompson and her husband, Kenneth, stretched their legs together on walking holidays in Switzerland. In Interlaken, year after year, they would head up the mountain and watch the paragliders (空中滑翔) launch themselves into the sky. Back in town, in a large park, they watched them return to earth. “Some day I’d love to do that,” Thompson told Kenneth.

But there was always so much to do in Interlaken. So she continued to watch the gliders take flight and land. Kenneth died in 2005. Eleven years later, and three decades after those walking holidays, Thompson finally took to the skies herself, in a paraglider with an instructor. Thompson was 80.

Recently, Thompson heard from an instructor that grown men, when airborne, sometimes cry and beg to be brought down. But what she remembers is “feeling free. You feel weightless. It’s quite windy. It blows you around. You sail along and look around you, and see all the toy houses down below. You feel like you are up in heaven somewhere there, watching everyone down below.”

Thirty years seems a long time to hold on to a dream. “It was,” she says. Why did it take so long? “I wanted to do it, but I felt somebody should benefit from it.” She did not think of just enjoying the experience? “I don’t think so. There had to be a cause at the end of it all,” she says. With her first paraglide, she raised £1,500 for Moorfields eye hospital in London, most of it with the aid of social clubs run by the Presbyterian church she regularly attends.

Is she scared of getting older? “Fear? No. People say: ‘Isn’t getting old awful?’ I say: ‘No. You are free to do more things that you want to do.”

Thompson felt no fear paragliding. “I mean, you sort of say to yourself: Well, if anything happens to me now, I’m OK. People might worry about falling, it being the end of them. But that didn’t bother me at all. When it’s your time, it’s your time. No matter where you are.”

1. Why didn’t Thompson take up paragliding after her children left home?
A.She was engaged.B.She preferred walking.
C.She was afraid of heights.D.She had to tend her husband.
2. How did Thompson feel when airborne?

3. Why could Thompson hold on to her dream for three decades?

A.Terrified.B.Helpless.C.Calm.D.Doubtful.

I strongly call on everyone to stop feed animals improperly in natural scenic areas. My family and he just went on a trip to the city park which there are beautiful lakes, streams and plants. Therefore, I found that many tourists fed the ducks, fish and other animals in the park with snacks they bring. In my an opinion, such behaviour will have a negative effect with both the animals and the environment.

Food made for human-beings may contain too many salt and fat, which can cause seriously health problems if animals eat too much. Also, food thrown into the lakes or left on the ground could regarded as pollutants and it will further destroy the living condition of animals.

文章大意:这是一篇说明文。文章介绍了当前的一种社会现象,很多人在吃饭的时候看自己喜欢的视频,被称之为“数字泡菜”,分析了“数字泡菜”能下饭的原因以及影响。

8 . A spoonful of pickles (榨菜) can sometimes make a meal taste way better. Recently, a new type of pickle is being discussed: “digital pickled vegetables”. It refers to the videos which people watch while eating. And these videos will make their food more delicious.

The topic received more than 16 million clicks on Sina Weibo and about 100,000 people participated in the discussion. Instead of being accompanied by friends and family during a meal, many young people in China are kept company by TV shows or short videos. Many believe that their food is tastier with the “digital pickles”.

Can this habit affect your diet? According to a research paper published in 2019, you may eat more unconsciously. The international research team asked 62 volunteers to follow different eating patterns on four different days. The patterns included eating while looking at the mobile phone, reading magazines and without distraction. After analyzing their diets, the team discovered that eating with a distraction increased caloric ingestion (卡路里摄入) by about 15 percent.

To explore the reason, the team also invited two groups of people:one group ate while listening to an audio clip about another person eating and the other listened to a clip that helped them imagine themselves eating. The results showed that the second group ate less since they were more focused on their meals. When eating with the “digital pickles”, our attention can be –distracted, which leads to eating more than expected.

This works not only for eating meals but other demanding tasks as well. A research project led by the University of Sussex, UK, pointed out that activities which require lots of attention tick many participants into overeating. The team invited 120 participants to do various tasks while providing them with drinks and snacks. “Our study suggests that if you’re eating or drinking while your attention is distracted by a highly engaging task, you’re less likely to be able to tell how full you feel,” one of the authors Martin Yeomans explained.

A.Vegetables which are made at home.

C.Nice pickles young people prefer.

文章大意:本文是一篇记叙文。主要讲述的是作者分享随手拍照的意义,并鼓励人们拿起相机记录美好的时刻。

9 . Photography has been my passion ever since I was old enough to pick up a camera, but today I want to share with you the 15 most treasured photos of mine, and I didn’t take any of them. There were no art directors, no stylists, no chance for re shoots, not even any regard for lighting. In fact, most of them were taken by random tourists.

My story begins when I was in New York City for a speaking engagement, and my wife took this picture of me holding my daughter on her first birthday. We’re on the corner of 57th and 5th. We happened to be back in New York exactly a year later, so we decided to take the same picture.

Approaching my daughter’s third birthday, my wife said, “Hey, why don’t you take Sabina back to New York and make it a father-daughter trip?” This is when we started asking passing tourists to take the picture.

You know, it’s remarkable how universal the gesture is of handing your camera to a total stranger. No one’s ever refused, and luckily no one’s ever runoff with our camera.

Back then, we had no idea how much this trip would change our lives. It’s really become sacred to us. This one was taken just weeks after 911, and I found myself trying to explain what had happened that day in ways a five-year-old could understand.

So, these photos are far more than a specific trip. They’re also ways for us to freeze time and reflect on our times and how we change from year to year, and not just physically, but in every way. Because while we take the same photo, our views change, and she reaches new milestones, and I get to see life through her eyes, and how she interacts with and sees everything. This very focused time we get to spend together is something we treasure and expect the entire year. One of the most important things we all make is memories.

So, I want to share the idea of taking an active role in consciously creating memories. I want to encourage everyone today to get in the shot, and don’t hesitate to go up to someone and ask, “Will you take our picture? Thank you.”

1. What is the purpose of the first paragraph?
A.To encourage us to take photos.
B.To inform us of the author’s life.
C.To introduce the topic of the passage.
D.To tell us the skills of photography.
2. Why did the author’s wife suggest a father-daughter trip?
A.Their daughter’s coming third birthday.
B.Their attending a speaking engagement.
C.Their asking passers-by to take photos.
D.Their appreciation for strangers’ help.
3. What does the underlined part probably mean?
A.These photos were taken by strangers.
B.These photos carry valuable memories.
C.These photos show just a usual trip.
D.These photos were expensively taken.
4. What is the author’s attitude in the passage?
A.Disapproving.B.Positive.C.Uncertain.D.Fearful.

Preserving more habitats for China’s giant pandas is providing a giant payoff.    1    (save) the giant panda from dying out isn’t just good for the panda, but it’s also good for economy, a few analysis by    2    international team of scientists shows.

The results,    3    (publish) in the magazine Current Biology, stress the economic benefits that go hand in hand with environmental protection. Giant pandas are one of the    4    (rare) species around the world. But pandas fell on hard times in recent decades, thanks largely    5    human encroachment (侵入). In 1980 alone, many habitats were destroyed artificially, and in 1990, their habitats covered only 12,340 square kilometers,    6    is a major threat to the pandas in large part because bamboo, their main food source, is so low in nutrients that they must wander a lot of land in order to find and eat enough of it.

Because of this, Chinese officials began making significant efforts to save the panda from    7    (extinct), establishing more reserves and increasing the reserve area three times. Panda numbers    8    (gradual) began to recover, hitting 1,596 in 2000 and 1,864 in 2010.
