Children’s Museum of South Dakota

 Seize the Play invites kids to pick a topic and then complete the scientific challenge. There are many activities to choose from like making puffy paint, creating fizzy bubbles, building an indoor fort, paper making and more. There’s a special page just for grown-ups where parents can gain access to extra resources like reviews, activity suggestions and more.

Kohl Children’s Museum

You’ll be able to access remote learning opportunities through Kohl Children’s Museum’s Home Zone. Each web series will walk you through science experiments, art projects, music classes, and more, all of which you can complete while at home.

Minnesota Children’s Museum 

The Minnesota Children’s Museum has a huge library of videos that families can watch while at home. Kids can learn how to create a time capsule, learn about the color wheel through mixing primary paint colors, and create sensory bins. 2 . 2024 Western Colorado Elementary Science Fair

EUREKA! and D51 are partnering to host our annual elementary (小学的) science fair! Here’s your chance to apply your love of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) by conducting your own scientific investigation.

Participation is open to all 3-5^th graders living in Wester Colorado, and students can either enter as an individual or as a team of no more than 3 members. Judging will be based on grade, and a team composed of students from multiple grades will be judged in the grade category of the oldest participant’s grade.

Project Submission

All participants must complete all of the following by March 7, 2024:

●Complete the registration form (one per team)

●Create a display poster (either physical or electronic) summarizing their project and email the file or a clear photo of it to the science fair committee

● Create a video presentation (less than 5 minutes) explaining their project to the judges, and submit it to the science fair committee

Public Viewing

Date: Wednesday, March 13, 2024

Location: EUREKA! McConnell Science Museum

Participants can display their posters and present their projects to the public (optional) .

Safety Regulations

It is important to wear proper protective gear (装备) when necessary in addition to disposing of (处理) waste properly when conducting a scientific investigation. We strongly recommend that guardians look up and study Safety Data Sheets for any chemicals that their students use and have responsibility for not allowing students to experiment with dangerous chemicals. EUREKA! holds the right to not display projects if they believe the components break our safety regulations.

3 . How much will it cost to live in Oxford, if you study in this world-renowned university? The lower and upper range of likely living costs for 2024-25 is provided below. These costs are based on a single, full-time student with no dependants, living in Oxford. We provide the cost per month and you can multiply up by the number of months you expect to live here, so that you are fully aware of and consider very carefully the likely living costs associated with your chosen courses of study at Oxford.

In order to provide these likely living costs, the University and the Oxford Student Union have conducted a relevant survey among existing students about the expenditure data.

Food: Three ordinary meals on campus each day, dining out not counted.

Accommodation: The figures above show a 20% discount, which is commonly accepted in Oxford, if the same apartment is rented by the same student for 9 months and more in a row. They also include related bills (for example, utilities such as electricity and heating).

Study costs: These are likely costs directly related to your studies, such as text books, stationery, printing and photocopying, course-related equipment and materials.

Other: These are small, mixed costs which do not fall under the other categories above.

You may need to make additional budget for costs such as travel to and from fieldwork out of the city, or for international students the visa and health care costs (see student visa webpages). These costs are not included in the figures above.

4 . Welcome to the California Science Center

We are committed to breaking down any barrier to access. If you have questions about accessibility, please call us at (213) 744-2019 or contact us online or stop by our Information Desk just inside the main entrance.

Light, noise and crowds vary widely throughout the building. Please feel free to bring your own noise-canceling headphones or other calming items. All spaces in the center are wheelchair accessible. All floors are accessible by elevator or stairs.

Accessible parking spaces are available on the three floors of the Science Center parking lot. Accessible parking is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Parking is $15 per vehicle.

All the restrooms here are wheelchair accessible. Private family style restrooms are available upon request, please see any Guest Services Host.

Standard manual wheelchairs are available for free at the Information Desk, used inside the California Science Center.

Service dogs trained to do work or perform specific tasks for a guest with a disability are welcome in all of the Science Center spaces. Emotional animals and pets are not permitted.

Our Bilingual (双语的) Guest Services and Education staff members wear buttons indicating languages in which they are fluent. In addition, the Information Desk offers maps in six different languages.

Audio guides in both English and Spanish are often available for special exhibits. For special exhibits with audio guides, transcripts are available at the entrance to the exhibit upon request.

5 . Grand Canyon River Hike

July 28-30

The coolest thing to do in Summer! A river hike is a combination of normal hiking and hiking along the course of rivers. It often involves walking in the water and on rocks, low-level rock climbing, crossing rivers, and swimming.

River hikes are fun but require average to high fitness level, good balance and swimming skills. Climbing skills are not necessary. This activity is not recommended for those afraid of heights or water, nor for children under the age of 15.

Day I Friday

18:45 We’re going to get out of Los Angeles. I’m waiting for you at Griffith Park!

19:00 Everyone’s here, time to go!

23:30 Arrive at the Guesthouse. Let’s quickly get the room and go for some quality sleep to recharge for the hike tomorrow.

Day 2 Saturday

07:00 Get up and have breakfast.

07:30 Pack all your belongings; we’ll be on the bus for about 2 hours before reaching our drop-off point.

09:30 We will walk on the road for about 30 mins to reach the starting point. Then we have 15 mins to put our swimming suits on and wear some sun creams before getting ready for the hiking!

For the rest of the day, we will mainly be hiking on the rocks, stopping on the way for your bag lunch when you want.

16:30 Finish the hike and get on the bus waiting for us. We’re going to spend the night in the Guesthouse village.

18:30 Let’s have dinner and enjoy the night!

Day 3 Sunday

9:00 Get up and have breakfast. After yesterday’s exciting hike, today is mainly relaxing!

10:00 We reach a nice river spot for swimming and jump from rocks before going back to the village where we will have lunch. Or you can just stay in the village, walk around and relax.

13:00 After group lunch we will take our private bus and head back to Los Angeles.

19:30/20:00 Estimated arrival time in Los Angeles.

6 . Ross Mathematics Program

The Ross Program is a summer experience designed for pre-college students.

Mission Statement

※At Ross. we provide students with a focused and supportive environment for mathematical exploration. We encourage mathematical cooperation and community building, instead of direct competition between students.

※At Ross, we want to create an environment that allows students to explore their relationships with mathematics, and we try to create an experience that allows students to explore mathematics deeply, to experience mathematics for themselves, and to share this exploration and joy with others.

Ross Staff

We have excellent counselors (辅导员) who are responsible for teaching mathematics, providing social and emotional support for students, and monitoring student safety. They are also responsible for being role models for students, and for developing a welcoming camp culture among the participants.

Program Dates

There will be two sites for the Ross Program:

※At Otterbein University in Columbus, OH. June 9 through July 19, 2024

※At Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, Indiana, June 16 through July 26, 2024

All participants typically live with a roommate in a campus dormitory.

Applying

※Pre-college students who are interested in mathematics are invited to apply. First-year students range in age from 15 to 18 years old, but in unique cases, younger or older students are accepted. We expect about 60 first-year students at each site.

Admission decisions are based on school performance, teacher recommendations, essays about the applicant’s interests and goals, and the applicant’s work on some challenging math problems.

The fee for attending the program is $7,000, though we’re able to provide financial aid for students who need financial assistance to attend the program. The student fee covers tuition, housing and meals.
