Today was a day that I will never forget, because I experienced something so warm and touched.
After my friend’s birthday party, I went to the bus station. When the bus came, I got on and didn’t notice I was not in the right bus. It wasn’t until I stepped off at the next stop I realized I was in a unfamiliar place. As it was getting dark, I felt scared. Suddenly, I saw car lights but heard someone saying gentle, “Can I help you?” It is a female driver. After learning about my trouble, she offered me a ride free of charges.
With his help, I got home safely. The experience taught me that kindness and compassion can make a significant difference in someone’s day. I decided I would try my best to help others in need in my life as well as.
4 . Cameron Beck first started volunteering at the young age of 12. To his family, volunteering became part of life. The Becks would volunteer at the local food bank in California. Alongside his parents and sister, Cameron used to help select, organize, and pack food for the needy.
Today, Cameron spends every Saturday volunteering at Project Open Hand—a non- profit organization that mainly provides meals for sick neighbors and seniors. And it also allows these people to shop in its store.
Cameron first learned about Project Open Hand when he was working on Polk Street. As he passed the store on his way to and from work each day, Cameron became eager to learn more, and allowed his curiosity to fuel his passion.
Cameron quickly learned how Project Open Hand began with serving food to those living in San Francisco's Tenderloin neighborhood—a neighborhood many low-income or disabled people live in.
“When I realized they've been doing this kind of work and it's providing extraordinary benefits for people in need—especially in the Tenderloin where fresh and quality food is hard to gain——I realized this was the organization I wanted to lend a hand to, "says Cameron.
Cameron really enjoys volunteering. “Through my day job, I serve the people in my city," says Cameron. “Sometimes, it can cause feelings of isolation, so volunteering really helps bring that social aspect into my life. ”
Cameron has one piece of advice for those who have never volunteered: find an organization that matches your passion and just get started. Organizations are always looking for volunteers," says Cameron. “And you'll learn about those opportunities once you open that door and reach out to the people. Just do something you love to do and enjoy doing it with others.

5 . There is a story about a man who lost his legs and left arm in an accident. After the accident, only a finger and thumb on his right hand remained.
He was a brilliant, creative, and educated man.He had gained a lot of experience while travelling around the world, so he became very depressed after his accident. He was afraid that he would spend the rest of his life suffering and would no longer be able to spend his life in a meaningful way. Then, he realized that he still had partial function of his right hand and could still write even though it was very difficult. An idea occurred to him.“Why not write to other people who need encouragement? ”
He wrote to the prison ministry about sending letters to the prisoners. The prison minister replied, “Writing to the prisoners is acceptable, but your letters will not be answered.”
Filled with excitement, the man knew he could write his letters. He began sending oneway messages of God's love, hope, strength, and encouragement. He wrote twice a week, testing his strength and ability to the limit. He poured his heart and soul into his words and shared his experience, sense of humor, optimism, and faith.
It was difficult to write those letters, especially without hope of a reply. One day he received a letter from the prison ministry. It was a short note from the officer who monitored and checked the prison mail.
The letter said, “Please write on the best paper you can afford.Your letters are passed from cell to cell until they literally fall to pieces! ”

According to the study, regions of the brain that react to painful stimulation appear to be instantly out of operation by the experience of giving.
Being kind seems to boost happiness.
Another study assigned people to three groups: the first group had to do an act of kindness each day; the second group tried a new activity each day; and the third group did nothing. The first two groups saw a significant boost in happiness.

I was sitting next to Missy in my ninth-grade world history class when Mrs. Bartlett announced a new project. In groups, we were to create a newspaper around the culture we were studying.
On a piece of paper, we wrote the names of three friends we wanted in our group. After collecting all the requests, Mrs. Bartlett informed us that she would take into consideration the names we chose and would let us know the results the next day. I had no doubt I would get the group of my choice. There were only a handful of sociably decent people in the class, and Missy was one of them. I knew we had chosen each other.
The next day, I anxiously awaited the class. After the bell rang, Missy and I stopped talking as Mrs. Bartlett called for our attention. She started to call out names. When she reached group three, Missy’s name was called. So I’m in group three, I thought. The second, third and fourth members of the group were called. My name was not included. There had to be some mistake!
Then I heard it. The last group: “Mauro, Juliette, Rachel, Karina.” I could feel the tears well in my eyes. How could I face being in that group the boy who barely spoke English, the one girl who was always covered by skirts that went down to her ankles, and the other girl who wore weird clothes. Oh, how badly I wanted to be with my friends.
After class, I fought back tears as I walked up to Mrs. Bartlett’s office. She looked at me and knew what I was there for. I was determined to convince her I should be in the “good” group. “Why. . . ?” I started.
