文章大意:这是一篇说明文,文章主要介绍了电影The Taste of Things 的导演Tran Anh Hung在电影中力求真实,影片充满了美味的食物,会使观众胃口大开。

2 . Plenty of audiences have warned: don’t see the new French movie The Taste of Things on an empty stomach. Juliette Binoche plays a longtime personal cook to a man who’s a gourmand (美食家). They share a passion for food. Filled with delicious meals, the film celebrates food, and all the work and love that go into making it.

When you see a delicious meal in a movie or an ad, chances are that it’s not fit to eat. Food stylists have been known to substitute glue for milk, and coat meat with motor oil. All this was a big “No” for Vietnamese French director Tran Anh Hung.

Tran says he wanted everything in The Taste of Things “to be real,” from the raw ingredients (食材) to the menu to the way the cooks move in the kitchen. Real food can’t always handle multiple takes. Plus, Tran needed to show dishes at different stages of preparation. So he needed a lot of everything. For a classic French dish, “we needed 40 kilos of meat for the shooting.” He also had to find vegetables that looked like they were harvested in the 19th century. “They’re not as beautiful as today,” he says, “They’re not straight, and they have many spots on the skin.”

After doing extensive research into the history of French cuisine and working with a historian, Tran enlisted three-star chef Pierre Gagnaire to make sure the menu he’d come up with worked in real life.

Gagnaire also cooked for Tran for five days, so the director could study his movements in preparation for filming. Tran says watching Gagnaire move around the kitchen taught him that “simplicity is important and you don’t need to have the perfect gesture for this or that. You need only to be very free.” Gagnaire says the movie feels like a gift. “For my creativity, it’s an honor,” he says. The famous chef agreed to take a small part in the film.

“When you leave this film, you feel calm because instead of violence, there’s tenderness,” Gagnaire says.

1. What can we say about The Taste of Things?
A.It shows that food represents love.
B.It gives audience a good appetite.
C.Its characters only focus on cooking.
D.Its story is based on a food stylist.
2. Which of the following best describes Tran as a film director?
A.Romantic.B.Caring.
C.Demanding.D.Humorous.
3. Why did Gagnaire cook for Tran for five days?
A.To get a role in Tran’s movie.
B.To give Tran some inspiration.
C.To test Tran’s menu for the film.
D.To show Tran his food creativity.
4. What’s the author’s purpose in writing the text?
A.To show a film shooting style.B.To recommend a film.
C.To call on people to save food.D.To promote food culture.

文章大意:这是一篇说明文。文章主要说明了一个研究团队从一种昆虫——水黾身上得到了灵感,开发了两个微型机器人,它们能够应用于环境监测、搜救等工作。

3 . The design theory behind a pair of tiny robots may one day find its way into environmental monitoring, as well as search and-rescue tasks. Modeled after a water strider (水黾), an insect, the two robots each weigh in at 8 and 55 milligrams, and may mark the smallest, lightest, and fastest fully functional micro-robots in the world, according to Washington State University (WSU).

Developed by a team of WSU researchers, the robots’ tininess largely relies on a material known as a shape memory alloy (合金). Although shape memory alloys change form when heated, they can “remember” their original shapes and return to them after cooling. Because of this, the two micro-robots do not require standard motors, and they use light and small ones instead of bulky moving parts.

Both the robots’ motors are each made up of two shape memory alloys, allowing them to move their fins as fast as 40 times a second while also lifting over 150 times their weight. “They’re very technologically sound. The development of the very lightweight robots opens up new possibilities in micro-robotics,” said Conor Trygstad, a material engineering PhD student and study lead author. “Although the robots are impressive when compared to other robots, the pair still fall behind their biological relatives’,” Trygstad said. They can currently move at a speed of about six millimeters a second; a water strider, by comparison, speeds along at about a meter per second. For now, the robots also require wired (连线的) power sources, thus seriously preventing any real-world applications for the moment.

Going forward, however, the team plans to copy other small insect species while also creating a new water strider robot which can move at a higher speed. Depending on using small batteries could also greatly increase the robots’ areas of use, If the breakthrough designs continue improving, similar micro-robots could one day be employed to monitor hard-to-reachor dangerous environments.

1. What is the inspiration for the two robots?
A.A special monitor.B.The lightest micro robot.
C.An insect species.D.A search-and rescue task
2. What does the underlined word “bulky” mean in paragraph 2?
A.Cheap.B.Huge.C.CoolD.Fast.
3. What might Conor Trygstad agree with?
A.Both robots can identify sound.B.Both robots need wireless power sources.
C.Both robots work better than water striders.D.Both robots have weaknesses besides strengths.
4. What is the best title for the text?
A.Robots Are Saving EnvironmentB.Shape Memory Alloys Are The Key
C.Human Beings Learn From AnimalsD.Two Micro robots Can Play A Big Part

文章大意:本文是一篇说明文,主要介绍了月食这一天文景象,包括月食的成因、分类、观测等。

8 . Many people are aware of the beauty of a solar eclipse (日食), but are surprised to learn that lunar eclipses are often just as impressive. While a total solar eclipse lasts only for a few minutes and can be seen only in a small area of a few square kilometres, a total lunar eclipse can last for several hours and can be seen over much of the planet. Therefore, the beauty and stability of lunar eclipses make them a favourite of both amateur and professional photographers.

Lunar eclipses generally occur two or three times a year, and are possible only when the Moon is full. When we see the Moon, we are actually seeing sunlight reflect off the surface of the Moon. When the Earth passes between the Moon and the Sun, however, the Earth’s shadow falls on the Moon, and a lunar eclipse occurs.

The type of lunar eclipses—total, partial, or penumbral (半影的)—that occurs depends on both how much of the Moon passes through the Earth’s shadow and through which part of the shadow it passes. A penumbral eclipse occurs when the Moon passes through the Earth’s outer shadow. This type of eclipse is brief and frequently goes unobserved by anyone but astronomers. By contrast, total and partial eclipses occur when all or part, respectively, of the Moon passes through the umbra (本影) of the Earth. These eclipses are quite easy to see and are widely observed.

Unlike solar eclipses, lunar eclipses are safe to watch. Solar radiation that occurs during an eclipse of the sun can cause a form of burns of one’s eyes know as eclipse blindness. In fact, the only way to safely view a solar eclipse is using specially designed equipment. However, since the Moon’s light is reflected sunlight, it is completely safe to watch a lunar eclipse without any special equipment, although a pair of binoculars (双筒望远镜) can certainly help the viewer appreciate the beauty of this phenomenon.

1. What does the underlined word “stability” mean in Paragraph 1?
A.Strength.B.Position.
C.Steadiness.D.Visibility.
2. When does a partial lunar eclipse occur?
A.When the Moon passes between the Sun and the Earth.
B.When all of the Moon passes through the Earth’s umbra.
C.When only part of the Moon passes through the Earth’s outer shadow.
D.When only part of the Moon passes through the Earth’s umbra.
3. Which of the following is right about penumbral lunar eclipses?
A.They are longerlasting than most solar eclipses.
B.They are more common than partial or total lunar eclipses.
C.They are the result of the shadow cast by the Moon onto the Earth.
D.They are more difficult to observe than other types of lunar eclipses.
4. Why is it safe to watch a lunar eclipse, unlike a solar eclipse?
A.Moonlight is much weaker than sunlight.
B.A lunar eclipse is briefer than a solar eclipse.
C.A lunar eclipse lasts much longer than a solar eclipse.
D.Special equipment can be employed to view a lunar eclipse.
