文章大意:这是一篇说明文。美国一项调查发现,青少年的手机持有率非常高。那么青少年究竟在多大年龄拥有自己的手机才合适呢?本文对此提出了几点建议供青少年和他们的父母参考。

3 . If it seems like all your friends have smartphones, you may be on to something. A new report by Common Sense Media, which reports on technology and media for children, found that by the age of 11, more than half of kids in the US have their own smartphone. By age 12, more than two-thirds do, and by 14, teens are just as likely as adults to own a smartphone. Some kids start much younger. Nearly 20% of 8-year-olds have their own smartphone!

Well, I study the effects of media and technology on kids, and I’m here to say that there is no single right answer to this question. The best I can offer is this: When both you and your parents feel the time is right.

Here are some points to consider to help you and your parents make this decision.

Be responsible. Have you shown that you are generally responsible? Do you understand the value of money, and can you save up to buy things you want?

Keep safe. Do you travel to or from school or after-school activities without an adult? This is when phones often go from a “want” to a “need”. Sometimes parents report that they feel better knowing they can reach their children directly, and that their kids can reach them, too.

Be careful. Do you treat your friends with kindness and respect? Do you know the fact that once something goes out onto the web, it can never truly be deleted (删除)?

When you have a smartphone, your parents are the No. I most important influence in your life. If parents use their phones all day, guess what? Their children probably will be like that, too. However, if parents have smartphone habits like putting the phone away during meals, that will go a long way toward helping kids develop the same habits.

1. What does Paragraph 2 mainly talk about?
A.The benefit of the phone.B.The need for the phone.
C.The right age for the use of the phone.D.The way of using the phone?
2. A phone goes from a “want” to “a need” when children use it to ______
A.keep in touch with their parentsB.get some information online
C.chat with their friends onlineD.send messages to their friends
3. What should parents do according to the last paragraph?
A.Teach their children to use phones.B.Use their phones as little as possible.
C.Control their children’s using phones.D.Set a good example for their children.
4. What would be the best title of the passage?
A.The advantages of having a phoneB.How children use their phones

文章大意:这是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了西部电影《不》以及作者对这部电影的评价。

6 . Have you ever left a movie theater with a mixed feeling about what you just watched? No? Well, you definitely haven’t seen the movie “Nope(不)”. This 2022 movie is a sci-fi horror. But despite having the amazing director Jordan Peele and the wonderful actors, this film still manages to be the worst I’ve ever seen.

In the movie “Nope”, it shows us a western 1998 setting where we follow a brother, OJ, and a sister, Emerald Haywood. Emerald is a fun and entertaining woman, while OJ is shy but outspoken when necessary. They run a large horse farm. They observe something mysterious in the sky, which they later learn is a UFO. This UFO is eating people who are watching horse races. To help their horse farm, they try their best to beat the monster.

Daniel Kaluuya is a good actor and has experienced playing in horror movies. In the movie, he did a good job at playing the role of OJ until he took a turn for the worse, going from a shy person to a hero who leads his group to success without any visible (可见的) growth. That makes his character challenging for the audience to understand. I love Keke Palmer’s humor and energy in the movie, but it gets to a point where she is too active, which makes her character Emerald unpleasant.

Many scenes in the movie are extended not to create suspense (悬念) but simply to add screen time. That makes the two hours feel like four. There are many storylines that end as quickly as they begin, with seemingly no point. The film is a far cry from horror and suspense. It is just an alien story with some seeming scares in between. Jordan Peele tried to make the movie symbolic, which made him blind to the idea that movies are supposed to be entertaining to watch. This movie is not for you if you are a true suspense and horror fan. If you ask me if you should watch it or not, I’d say “Nope.”

1. What do you know about the movie?
A.It is a western film.B.It is the worst movie.
C.It is set in ancient times.D.It is popular with horror fans.
2. What is paragraph 3 mainly about?
A.The response of the audience.B.The suggestion on the acting.
C.The comparison of the actors.D.The opinion on the characters.
3. What is the main reason for the movie’s failure according to paragraph 4?
A.The long periodB.The wrong director
C.The worthless plotsD.The old-fashioned theme.
4. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A.“Nope” is a nope for meB.What an entertaining film!
C.Jordan Peele’s new movieD.Should a horror be horrible?

Carrying the Flame of Inspiration

Excited, proud, and even a little emotional, I experienced a rush of different feelings when I passed the flame of the 4th Asian Para Games in Hangzhou,     1     capital city of Zhejiang province, on Saturday as one of the 600 torchbearers (火炬手).

Although from different backgrounds, we 600 torchbearers all have something in common: Our deep respect for the para sports movement and the spirit in     2     these sports are contested. The flame that I carried was passed on by the first torchbearer of the relay, powerlifting Paralympic and world champion Tan Yujiao. The Rio and Tokyo Paralympic gold medalist is     3     (particular) proud to attend the Asian Para Games at home, both as a torchbearer and an athlete.

“My heart is just like the flame right now. Life presents me with the     6     (tough) tests, and I have lived my life in the most beautiful way,” said Tan.

When I was informed that I     7     (choose) for the honor, I asked myself one simple question: What will I actually pass through the flame? I think my fellow torchbearer Tan summed it     8     better than I could: “What I hope to pass on is the spirit of the para athletes that enables them     9     (fight) against all odds to win and chase excellence. I also want to pass on their positive energy, their     10     (confident) and strength.”

9 . How to Become a Lifelong Learner

There are no age limits when it comes to education. Being a lifelong learner is all about maintaining your curiosity and love for learning.     1

Identify your learning style. Everyone has a preferred way to approach information. Determine your own favorite learning style.     2     Make use of them as much as practical, such as viewing online tutorials on websites if you’re more of a visual learner.

Read every single day.     3    Reading is an entrance to the minds of your fellow human beings. Through reading you will be amazed by the incredible creativity, intelligence of the human species. And reading will help you to learn the discoveries and mistakes of others who have gone ahead of you.

Create something. Flexing your creative muscles can help you learn about yourself.     4    In fact, some powerful learning happens when you are creating something for yourself. Creation, like intelligence, can be artistic or scientific; physical or intellectual.

Teach others. Teaching is a wonderful way to learn a subject better and improve your own understanding of it. Conveying the information you absorb will help you process better.     5    In teaching others how to learn things, you will find that you learn even more than the students.

As a saying goes, it is never too late to learn, so we should persist in lifelong learning.

10 . The Scarlet Knight (also known as RU27) is an 8-foot autonomous underwater glider that traveled from New Jersey to Spain. Its underwater expedition team has provided data to help scientists better understand how climate change is affecting the ocean.

The glider, with no engine to push it forward, rode the ocean currents and made a series of 10,000 dives and ascents (上升) in order to collect data on ocean circulation, the heat content of the upper level of the ocean, and the transport of this heat through oceanic cycle as it crossed the Atlantic.

Drops involved pumping a small volume of water into its nose causing it to sink and unequal buoyancy (浮力) along its main body would send the glider 150 to 180 meters down the water column. Ascending involved the reverse: pumping approximately a cup of water into the tail causing a glide upwards. This pattern of dive-and-ascend cycles continued for 4,600 miles; they lasted approximately 40 minutes each. The glider stayed almost continually underwater, surfacing only three times a day to check its location, transmit data, and download new piloting instructions from home via an Iridium telephone on its tail.

The gliders equipped with sensors to help indicate the presence of oil. Though scientists must still confirm oil presence through water sampling, gliders narrowed the search zone for subsurface oil. It will also help people better explore the ocean in the future.

“The glider shines light on the mysteries of the oceans. It can sample the ocean in places that are not realistic, and for a small amount of the price,” said Zdenka Willis, director of the research team. “Using robots to collect scientific data is the wave of the future in terms of ocean observing.”

1. What is the purpose of RU27?
A.To travel from New Jersey to Spain.B.To collect information on the ocean.
C.To transport scientists to the ocean.D.To analyze the data from the ocean.
2. What does Paragraph 3 tell us about the glider?
A.Its main elements.B.Its moving areas.
C.Its operating principle.D.Its data processing .
3. What does Zdenka Willis say about the application of the glider to the oceans?
A.It’s not realistic.B.It will be costly.C.It’s demanding.D.It will be a future trend.
4. What is the best title for the text?
A.Underwater Robots Explore the OceanB.The Glider Becomes the Focus
C.Underwater Expedition Helps ScientistsD.A New Robot Comes into View
