The day before yesterday, I go to pay a visit to my former neighbor, Stan. He and I would live next to each other for a few years. Many senior high school students have children’s book that they no longer need. Therefore, my school organize a book drive, with the purpose of donate books to disadvantaged families with young children last weekend. The activity lasted for a week and students in mine school were encouraged collect gently used children’s books from family members, friends and neighbors. I, along with other volunteers, were responsible for checking the donated books and packing them. In order to perform the task well, I had learned what to pack things from my father in the advance. Though I was tiring at the end of the week, I was happy that I got involved in doing something that is benefit to the community.

I planned to save money for the trip last summer. My father told to me a local zoo was looking for teenagers to work on the weekend, so I immediate applied for the position. To me delight, I got it. For the purpose of reduced stress, a series of activities were held in the school playground in Mental Health Day this year. Students from three grade got involved in the activities actively. Among these activities, a lecture giving by a psychological professor provided us with professional guidance, which helped us understand when to deal with it in life and study. Beside, a debate on Stress, Motivation or Depression were conducted among students. These activities turned out very successfully. Growing up, I was lucky to have parents which taught me lessons by how they lived each day. I remember walking to a nursing home with my father on one Saturday. When we arrive there, I asked him for money for the collection box. My father reached into her pocket and handed me a coin. I was embarrassing by the amount of money he gave me so I asked him for more. In reply, he taught me an valuable lesson: What is importance is the reason for giving, not how many money you give. Years late, I found out my father didn’t have any spare money give at the time, but he always gave what he could.

The person which has taught me the most about life is my grandmother. My parents did a lot of travelling when I was young so I spent a couple of my school holiday with her. She was more than just a mother to me and when she die a few years ago. I felt I lost a real good friend. She was so a thoughtful person. She knew how much I missed my parents and he did everything she could to make me feel at the home. She was also really imaginative but spent hours telling me interested stories that she had made up. I’m sure it was because her that I became a writer.

The best advice I received in my childhood was from my dad. He always gives me some advice, but I seldom took it seriously. One day he was encouraged me to participate a speech competition. So I signed up and after the competition, I did my best to be fully prepared. And the moment I stood on the stage, I was such nervous that my mind completely went blankly. The experience of lose a competition was really painful. Then, my dad said, “My son, life is like a battlefield. You have to lose many time to win the final victory.” Thanks to her advice, I never give up when I do anything.
