1 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

I hit the back window of a new car with a hammer. In a flash I was in. I started the car, just like my older brother had taught me. I was 12 then. It seems crazy now. Today, everyone knows me as Donald Driver, a famous football player. I've dedicated(致力于) my life after football to helping disadvantaged kids around the country.

Mom would have killed me if she'd known what I was up to. My dad had gone to prison while she was pregnant with me. Mom wanted a better life for me, my two brothers and two sisters. She worked long hours to support us. But she often fell behind on rent and then we'd have to move. Trouble really started when we moved next door to a man named J. R. Mom trusted him to care us while she was at work, and he did. What Mom didn't know was that J.R. and his friends were thieves.

My older brother Moses and I served as look-outs(放哨人).We knew it was wrong, but the money was too good- $ 100 a night. We broke it into smaller bills, and regularly slipped some into Mom's purse. Then Moses discovered we could bring in even more cash by stealing cars. We practiced giving the same smile, hug and kiss for my mom when we came home, no matter what we'd done on the streets.

Now, though, I was about to get caught. The police got closer. I turned into a back alley. Suddenly, up ahead, a car backed out of a driveway. I saw a little old lady sitting in the driver's seat. But it, was too late. I stopped and jumped out to see if the old lady was damaged. The woman, Evelyn Johnson, looked angry, but unhurt. “Go sit in my house right now,” she said. It was the tone of voice that no kid can disobey. The police arrived and began to question the old woman.

“The man who did this ran that way,” she said, pointing down the alley.

Nothing has come easy for Chris who faced many challenges in his childhood. His father, Nick, said that his son suffered from illnesses most of his life. Chris was born with Down syndrome (唐氏综合征) and underwent many major surgeries. All through his illnesses, the little boy always had a strong will.

“When you have children with Down syndrome, they don't fit in, they are different and they don't get invited to parties. They don't get invited to anything. Everything you do is a challenge, it is a fight. It is a battle to just get them to be included,” Nick said.

Despite his life challenges, Chris tries hard to stay positive and work hard to overcome his difficulties. “Don't tell me that I'll fail,” the young man replies to those who tell him he can't do something.

Chris has always been athletic, so his father found a Special Olympics Marathon Triathlon program for him to participate in. His father viewed the program as a fun thing they could do together. He encouraged Chris to do something that no one had ever done before. He knew accomplishing a challenging event such as the Ironman Triathlon would make an incredibly powerful impact, not only on his son but on many others with disabilities. He asked Chris if he would be interested in participating in the most challenging race. “Yes, let's do it!” Chris enthusiastically replied.

Individuals with Down syndrome, like Chris, often struggle with poor balance and delayed reaction time. Therefore, it took him a little longer to complete training routines in the beginning. However, Chris is no quitter, he kept on practicing. With his courage, willpower and his family's encouragement, every day he grew better, faster and stronger.

The eleven-year-old had just arrived in famous Carnegie Hall. He was to appear as a violin performer with the New York Symphony Orchestra. On his way from the stage entrance to the artists’ room, he saw a large fire ax (斧子) on a wall. “What’s that for?” he asked a guard.

“To cut the heads off the performers who don’t play well,” was the reply.

“And how many heads have you already cut off?”

“Oh, quite a few,” said the guard, with a friendly smile.

Some in the audience that night, especially the music critics, expected the boy’s head to roll. He was to play a difficult violin piece by Beethoven. Critics felt that this great piece should be attempted only by a mature artist. For a child, the complicated fingering would be impossible, they added.

It was November 25, 1927. That night Carnegie Hall was packed. All eyes in the audience watched for Yehudi Menuhin, the eleven-year-old violin performer, to appear on the stage. News of his talent had already excited the public imagination. There was an outburst of applause when he came out in his white silk shirt and black pants.

In a businesslike manner, Yehudi took his place near the conductor and handed his violin to the first violinist to be tuned. There was a breathless silence in the hall. When the kettledrum (定音鼓) announced the opening of the music, Yehudi stood calmly, so absorbed in the music that some people feared he would not come in on time. But, with only seconds to spare, he adjusted his violin and raised his bow. At the great singing tone that filled the hall, there was a slight excitement, and then a silence.

Henry once worked in a middle school in a remote area. He loved to teach the teenagers. He worked to understand what his students were thinking and feeling in order to meet their needs. When a student was struggling, he would work harder to show the child that he or she was capable and cared for. He would try everything in order to help every student achieve success in and out of the classroom. But he would never discover that the impact his small act of kindness had on one student after he left the profession to join the navy,

Henry was teaching science then, there was one girl who sat at the front of the class and was filled with typical middle school pain and anxiety. Her name was Mary. She was a newcomer then. She wasn't accepted by the classmates that soon. She was quiet and kept to herself and always writing a journal during lessons. Henry was looking for a chance to give her a hand but had realized this task was tough.

That class Henry decided to look over her shoulder and see what she was writing. On a small piece of paper he   saw the painful words “I am not good enough. I'm ugly. I’m stupid. No one likes me. I hate myself.” The girl was absorbed in her loneliness and sadness and didn't realize she was overseers.

This task was more challenging because he had never seen a young girl was so disappointed and sad. Great teachers knew that putting extra effort, a kind heart and soul into caring for his students made all the difference. Without thinking, Henry snatched (一把抓起) the notebook from her and started writing in it “You're great, you're beautiful, you're intelligent, you're loved”. The opposite of everything she wrote, then handed it back. He smiled at her with encouragement saying nothing.

Mary was surprised at her teacher's behavior. But when she read the words he wrote, tears welled down her face.
