Geisel Library, University of California: San Diego, United States

It has been featured in sci-fi films, short stories and novels. The library hosts “Dinner in the Library”, which invites readers for cocktails, and also a special speech from distinguished authors.

2 . How to Understand the Mind of an Interviewer
Getting inside an interviewer’s head can be tricky, as their perspective will change according to personality type, professional role, and personal experience.
Research the company to determine what the interviewer is looking for. Company culture (work-life balance, atmosphere, etc.) is a great indicator of what your interviewer will want to see in candidates.
Look up the interviewer when possible.
Identify how the interviewer’s position will influence expectations. The role of your interviewer usually has an impact on what that person expects from a candidate. An HR representative, for example, will want to know you’re a good fit with the company culture and values. A direct manager, however, would be most interested in your practical ability to do the job.

7 . In Los Angeles, UPS driver Hector Vesco noticed that while he did his normal route, there was one kid who looked sad.
Once Hector understood why the boy looked upset, he jumped into action. A father of two himself, he knew that he would have to check in with the parents. Using a blank UPS slip, Hector wrote out a note reading, “Hi, this is Hector, your UPS driver. I’ve seen your son plenty of times on the balcony and he seemed very sad that he didn’t get any package. When he asked me if I had any package for him, I told him, ‘Don’t worry. Maybe next time.’ So, anyway, I’ve bought something and put it in box. Just wanted to know his name.” Hector also shared his number so that the parents could contact him directly.
After getting all the information he needed from the mother BrookeWalbuck, Hector showed up the next day and surprised the boy, Langston, with the delivery.
Of course, the gesture of delivering the parcel was nice enough, but it turned out what was inside made it even better! When Langston opened up the box, he found a collection of toy cars and a bunch of candy. It didn’t get much better than that for a little boy.
After the delivery was made, Brooke sent a follow-up text to thank Hector again. In his reply, Hector stated that he had two daughters himself. He kept a bunch of toy cars he had collected over the years. When he met Langston, he knew it was the perfect opportunity to put them to good use.
In his message back to Brooke, he also intentioned that Langston helped him remember how many kids, along with his, had to live through the COVID-19 pandemic (疫情). “Our kids are our world and the future,” he said. “I just want to show some love.”

“Here you go. Up, up and away,” Chrissy yelled, as she pushed her little brother, Russell, on the swing(秋千). Russell smiled and kicked his feet. “Higher! Higher!” he shouted. “Okay, hang on. Here you go!” Chrissy stood forward and gave the swing an extra hard push. “Help!” Suddenly, Russell screamed.
The swing flew so high that it seemed that it might go flying off into the sky. Russell started to cry just as their mom came running over. “I’m sorry, Russell,” Chrissy said. “I didn’t mean to scare you. I guess I pushed a little too hard.” Their mom was angry with Chrissy and shouted, “Was it a little too hard? That was way too hard, Chrissy! How could you be so irresponsible?” Hearing the word “irresponsible”, Chrissy cried with tears filling her brown eyes.
A week before, her teacher had told her that she was irresponsible for being late for class. And a few days before her dad had used the word “irresponsible” when he blamed her for not hanging up her clothes. “I’m sorry, Mom,” Chrissy said sadly. She turned away and started to walk slowly down the path that wound through the park. That unpleasant word “irresponsible” kept going through Chrissy’s head.
Suddenly, Chrissy saw a little girl walking across the grass, heading up a small hill. Chrissy looked around for the parent, but there was no one else in sight. Chrissy knew there was a running stream on the other side of that hill. “It’s dangerous,” Chrissy thought. She ran as fast as she could towards the little girl. When she reached the girl, she stepped in front her, stopping her from running towards the water.
Chrissy picked up the little girl and carried her towards the playground, looking anxiously for her mother. “Where’s your mommy?” she asked the little girl, although she thought the girl was probably too young to talk. She was surprised when the little girl pointed to a distant house on the other side of the fence.
