文章大意:本文是一篇记叙文。主要讲述了一名10岁听障男孩录制视频发起筹款,帮助贫困听障儿童购买助听器。

2 . On any given day, you can find most 10-year-old boys throwing a ball around outside, riding bikes or playing video games. But Braden Baker is different.

Braden is a hearing damaged 5th-grader and has to wear hearing aids (助听器). Unluckily, Braden’s dog Chewy found his hearing aids on the floor and destroyed them-not once but twice and they had to be replaced. But at $3,500to $6,000 a pair, Braden’s carelessness was costly.

Braden’s mother Ashley sat Braden down and had a long talk about taking better care of his hearing aids, explaining how much they cost.“I told him that he was lucky to get another pair and that some people couldn’t afford a new pair, ”Ashley said.

Those words stuck in Braden’s mind, who realized not every child who needed hearing aids could afford them. Recently the 10-year-old boy decided to start a GoFundMe page to raise money for those who aren’t so lucky.

Braden made a video to explain why he wanted to raise money. Ashley said, “We weren’t sure how it would turn out. He began with a goal of$1,000.We woke up the next morning and found it had raised$400.”

This encouraged him to start making more videos. Fast-forward a few months and Braden’s GoFundMe page has raised over $15,000, which Braden donated to the Oticon Hearing Foundation. That money will be used to help other families buy hearing aids for their children.

The project has not only taught Braden the value of money, but according to his mom, “he’s learned that if you put a small idea into action, amazing things can happen.”

Braden’s advice to those looking for ways to give back to others is “Don’t give up! Any small idea can get really big.”

4 . Studies have shown that walking among trees makes us relaxed.     1     There’s plenty of research showing the link between being in nature and being happy, but most of the research has focused on adults.

2     Explaining the motivation behind the study, researchers note that with environmental issues such as global warming, more studies are focusing on the relationships between humans and nature to find solutions to these problems, and the future of the planet lies in the hands of children and their actions. However, few studies focus on this aspect.

For the study, researchers worked with 296 children between the ages of 9 and 12. To measure how connected they were to nature, the kids were asked how much they enjoy activities like seeing wildflowers and wild animals, hearing sounds of nature and touching animals and plants.     3     They also found that the more concerned children were about the environment and nature, the more likely they were to be happy.

So exposure to nature is related to active behaviors and happiness of children. What does that mean to adults? As we all know, children usually tend to follow adults, especially their parents’ behaviors.     4     And if parents enjoy being close to nature, so will their children.

Researchers say that children need role models who can guide them to nature with excitement and an attitude of a lifelong learner. Parents don’t have to be experts in environmental science or nature studies.     5

A.It’s so good going for a walk around trees.
B.Even just smelling the trees helps reduce anxiety.
C.That’s to say, when adults are outside and appreciate nature, kids learn by example.
D.What’s more important is that they spend time together with children exploring nature.
E.They found that the kids connected to nature were more likely to behave actively.
F.In a new study, researchers wanted to see if kids get the same benefits from being outdoors.
G.Researchers will study more about the connection between children’s happiness and nature.

5 . Li Bai holds a wine cup in his hand, while Du Fu sits in front of a desk, writing poems on the paper in front of him. It’s not that we have traveled to the past. Modern technology has brought ancient poets “back to life” .

The two great poets, along with other humanoid robots were presented at the World Robot Conference 2023 in late August in Beijing. They looked similar to real human beings.

“The skin is made of medical-grade bionic silicone (仿生硅胶) which is why the skin looks soft and veins can be seen through it,” CGTN explained in a video about Liaoning-based producer EXROBOTS. Goosebumps (鸡皮疙瘩) and palm lines can also be seen on the arms and hands.

Researchers are also trying hard to create other features of humans on robots. A US robotics company Apptronik brought out its humanoid robot called Apollo on Aug 23. Apollo has around 30 muscles. However, humans have around 300 muscles in our bodies. For now, engineers can only simplify the muscles, allowing them to do basic movements like holding objects and walking.

The robot also contains cameras, helping it map out a 360-degree view of its environment. It also has sensors (传感器) in its head to help keep balance when walking on uncertain surfaces.

Nowadays, bionic human-like robots mostly work with humans, as tour guides or by helping visitors at front desks. There are also robots that share the work of nurses, such as handing out medicine. This could be because people are comfortable living and working with machines that look or act like them. “They can strike a chord (引起共鸣) with people,” a US robotics scientist Marc Raibert told New Yorker.

As more humanoid robots come out, safety will be the key, according to the Robot Reportwebsite. When a 70- kilogram robot breaks down and falls, humans nearby may be hurt.

1. What does brought ancient poets “back to life” mean in Paragraph 1?
A.The robots can create better poems than poets.
B.Technology can make ancient poets back to life.

D.The robots looked and acted like real ancient poets.
2. What does the skin of robots made by EXROBOTS show?
A.How human-like their robots are.
B.How soft the robots skin is.
C. How the robots’ skin should be made.
D.How different they are from other robots.
3. What can Apollo do with built-in sensors?
A.Wave at humans.B.Walk stably.C.Know human faces.D.See better.
4. What do people worry about with human-like robots?
A.People may be at war with the robots.B.Human-like robots look scary.
C.The robots weight may cause problems. D.The robots may get out of control.

文章大意:本文是一篇记叙文。 文章讲述一个美国人对中国山水和人文的依恋。

10 . Having grown up in northern Arizona with the immortal Grand Canyon and the iron red plateaus of Sedona in my backyard, I believed that the southwestern state is home to the most beautiful landscapes on the planet. Towering mountain titans, a cozy valley and an infinite blue sky promised fantastic potential for exploration. For me, no newly discovered sights or foreign landscapes can compare with its beauty.

That is, until I was invited to explore Guizhou province by the China Storyteller Partnerships Tour. Had someone vividly described how beautiful Guizhou can be in poetic detail, they would not have done it exactly. There is no substitute for seeing with one’s own eyes. I will attempt to do so.

During my trip around the city of Xingyi, in Guizhou, I saw the artwork of the Bouyei ethnic group. They use dyes produced from local plants to make clothing of striking blues and greens. Local elders still practice weaving with artful wooden machines and pass that tradition on to their grandchildren.

My father used to drag my brothers and me on yearly fishing trips around Arizona. We would compete to catch the largest fish, and in the mornings, Dad would cook us a basic breakfast of bacon, eggs, and toast. I sat in a small boat in the middle of the lake, with fishing pole moving slowly in my impatient hands, and held my bored tongue while my father attempted to share with me the whispers of the wind, a fish dancing on the surface of the lake or the majesty of a hawk hunting for prey overhead. On my trip to Guizhou I had the opportunity to paddle on Wanfeng lake. At one point I rested, floating at the center of the lake, listening to the spaces between silence and taking in the surrounding karst (喀斯特) mountains. I thought about my childhood, and wished I had listened more closely to my father while fishing.

I’ve lived away from Arizona for 10 long years, carving my own destiny in China. I’ve managed to build myself a family, a career, a livelihood, and various projects. I feel as though I have everything that I need. For a moment, in Guizhou, I felt home.
