2 . “Sorry seems to be the hardest word”— that is one of Elton John's most popular songs. But not every public figure seems to find it so tough to say that powerful five-letter word.

In recent days public figures, from politicians to stars, have all publicly expressed remorse. But with so much remorse, how can we tell a forced apology from a heartfelt expression of remorse?

Specifically, saying sorry should be a realization that something you have said or done has hurt someone and you want to make amends (弥补). "People want the response to be personal to them. They want to feel that they're being listened to and taken seriously," says Martin Stone.

Firstly, it is important to show that you understand. It is vital that any group or a person making an apology understands the focus — is it sorry for the way it's acted or is it sorry that the complainant feels the way they do? Watch out for the speed of response. The quicker the apology comes, the better it indicates that the person making it has felt an immediate sense of guilt.

If sincere, the person making the apology will be looking for clues (线索) to see if he or she is being understood, such as eye contact and facial expressions. Performed apologies always have a sense of being "acted out", and are often accompanied by too many unnatural gestures.

For a sincere apology, it is also important to avoid promises that can't be kept. Don't say that you'll make sure that this will not happen again if you're not confident that it won't. It could come back to bite you. And do remember that the use of "but" can hugely change the tone (语气) of an apology. As Stone points out, "I'm sorry but..." sounds like you are making excuses and aren't actually taking any form of responsibility.

1. What is the purpose of the text?
A.To explain what a good apology is.
B.To discuss how to give a formal apology.
C.To show why we should apologize in life.
D.To teach us how to tell if an apology is sincere
2. Which of the following indicates it's a "performed" apology?
A.Swearing it will not happen again.
B.Avoiding eye contact with the listener.
C.Showing you understand his/her feelings.
D.Paying attention to the listener's reaction.
3. What is stressed in the last paragraph?
A.The attitude.
B.The tone of voice.
C.The body language.
D.The choice of language.

3 . How to Deal With Rumors

Rumors (谣言) are the worst. But due to life's reality of people loving gossip, rumors are bound to happen.    1    So it's best to practice things when the rumor mill comes knocking at your door.

Don't Be frightened. Sure, easier said than done, right?     2    The truth is that people are waiting to see your reaction. They are waiting to see you sweat. But for real, don’t sweat it! You know very well this is just rumor, so carry yourself confidently as you brush past the petty.

Remaining calm, cool and collected is the key to not stirring the pot even more. Trust us.    3    If you know who started the rumor, don't be afraid to defend it forcefully foryourself. You may feel personally victimized by Regina George, so naturally your emotions are running high, but the key to positive communication and to fixing the chaos is a calm yet assertive conversation. Tell the person how you feel. Stay true to who you are, and feel good about standing your ground.

Know you're in good company. Famous persons deal with rumors all of the time. They either set the record straight via social media or an interview, or most often, they stay under the radar until it blows over. The important thing to remember, in all of this, is it will all become last week's news.     4     It will blow over and it will get better. Hang in there.

Talk to people you love. Dealing with a rumor is hard to go through alone, especially because you already feel like the world is against you.     5    They would never believe an untrue rumor about you anyway, so why pay any attention to the ones who do? Open up and talk to your family and friends. They will help you get through.

A.Go straight to the source of the rumor.
B.But, it's important not to panic when the gossip circles back to you.
C.Avoiding rumors altogether is hard to attain.
D.Never show your frustration.
E.Do you respond to the rumor quickly?
F.You just have to get through the storm until people no longer care.
G.Find comfort in your family and friends and the people who love you.

7 . D

Sure, it’s good to get along with your teacher because it makes the time you spend in the classroom more pleasant.

And yes, it’s good to get along with your teacher because, in general, it’s smart to learn how to relate to the different types of people you’ll meet throughout your life.

But really, there’s one super-important reason why you should get along with your teacher. When you do, “learning bursts right open,” says Evelyn Vuko, a longtime teacher who writes an education column called “Teacher Says” for the Washington Post newspaper.

In fact, kids who get along with their teachers not only learn more, but they’re more comfortable asking questions and getting extra help. This makes it easier to understand new material and do your best on tests. When you have this kind of relationship with a teacher, he or she can be someone to turn to with problems, such as problems with learning or school issues, such as bullying(欺负人).

As a kid in a primary or middle school, you’re at a wonderful stage in your life. You’re like a sponge(海绵), able to soak up lots of new and exciting information. On top of that, you’re able to think about all this information in new ways. Your teacher knows that, and in most cases, is very excited to be the person who’s giving you all that material and helping you put it together. Remember, teachers are people, too, and they feel great if you’re open to what they’re teaching you. That’s why they wanted to be teachers in the first place --- to teach!

Some kids may be able to learn in any situation, whether they like the teacher or not. But most kids are sensitive to the way they get along with the teacher, and if things aren’t going well, they won’t learn as well and won’t enjoy being in class.

A.You are getting on well with your teachers, so you have more questions than others.
B.You find it comfortable to ask questions, so you can build a good relationship with teachers.
C.You have a good relationship with teacher, so you can turn to him/ her when in trouble.
