6 . In a great many cities, hundreds of people ride bicycles to work everyday. In New York City, some bike riders have even formed a group called Bike for a Better City. They declare that if more people rode bicycles to work, there would be fewer automobiles(汽车) in the downtown part of the city and so less dirty air from car engines. For several years this group has been trying to get the city government to help bicycle riders. For example, they want the city to draw special lanes(通道) for bicycles only on some of the main streets, because when bicycle riders must use the same lanes as cars, there are accidents. Bike for a Better city feels that if there were special lanes more people would use bikes.

But no bicycles lanes have been drawn. Not everyone thinks it is a good idea—they say it will slow traffic. Some store owners on the main streets don't like the idea—they say that if there is less traffic, they will have less business.

The city government has not yet decided what to do. It wants to keep everyone happy. On weekends, Central Park—the largest place of open ground in New York—is closed to cars, and the roads may be used by bicycles only. But Bike for a Better City says that this is not enough and keeps fighting to get bicycle lanes downtown.

1. The bike riders suggest that _________.

C.they will make the city more beautifulD. the lanes will prevent accidents
3. The government has not decided whether special lanes should be drawn ________.
A.so that everyone is disappointedB.because there are different opinions
C.because most people travel by trainD.because Bike for a Better City is not strong enough

文章大意:本文是一篇说明文,主要讲的是什么是网瘾,网瘾的症状和人们还没有意识到网瘾的存在。

7 . A woman’s husband divorced her because she spent too much time on the Internet. But she continued to surf the World Wide Web. She did this so often that she forgot to take her children to the doctor or get the kids enough food. Her husband asked the court for the children.

But he needed someone to support her illness. “I had to write a letter to the judge,” said Dr. Jonathan Kandell. “The judge did not believe there was such a thing as Internet addiction.”

Is there? Some psychologists say that Internet addiction is real, just like gambling or drug abuse.

At the University of Maryland, a doctor started an Internet addiction support group after he watched a few addicted students nearly failed school.

How can you tell if you have an abnormal pattern of Internet use? Do you need to spend increased amounts of time on the Internet to achieve satisfaction? And when you’re not online, do you have fantasies or dreams about the Internet?

Tyler Johnson, 17, a high school senior in Abbotsford, British Columbia, spends more than six hours a day online and more than an hour reading his email.

Tyler dropped out of school sports, and now, every day after school until 3 or 4 o’clock in the morning, he plays games on the Internet.

Dr. Kandell guesses that many addicts don’t get help because they don’t know they have a problem. “I think we’re about a year away from having people recognize it’s really a problem,” he said. “It’s out there. There’s no question.”

1. Why did Dr. Kandell write a letter to the judge?
A.Because the judge couldn’t realize it was harmful to be on line.
B.Because the judge was uncertain about the Internet addiction.
C.Because he was afraid that the judge couldn’t know what to do next.
D.Because without knowing Internet addiction was a real illness, the judge might give a wrong judgement.
2. Which of the following is the sign of Internet addiction according to the passage?
A.Throwing tables and chairs around.
B.Forgetting to take children to the doctor.
C.Losing interest in school sports.
D.Being crazy for the Internet when not online.
3. What does Dr. Kandell believe?
A.People will surely realize the problem of Internet addiction some day.
B.It’s certain that Internet addiction can not be cured.
C.Internet has a side effect on us.
D.Internet and illness go hand in hand.
4. What is the best title for the passage?
A.Drug Addiction
B.Internet Addiction
C.Cause and Effect
D.Internet and Study

文章大意:这是一篇说明文。文章讲述了,人们发布在社交媒体上的东西不一定代表着发布者的真实生活,所以我们不应该拿我们的生活跟他们发布的生活进行比较而自寻烦恼。

9 . My 16-year-old niece Jenny started using Facebook about half a year ago. At first she loved using it very much because she could make so many new friends on it. However, as time went by, she used it less and less. You may wonder why. Well, it’s because every time she used it, she became sad. It seemed to her that everyone using Facebook was living a perfect life except her. I don’t think Jenny is alone.

In this day of social media, the whole “comparing thing” has gotten out of control. We are influenced daily by all kinds of things on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram where we see only the happy parts of life. You see friends’ baby pictures, beautiful houses and “perfect” lives and you feel like we need to be farther along than where you are. You see pictures of your coworker’s “best vacation ever” and then you compare your life to theirs.

But what you see is just a special second of their lives. Social media only gives us a look at them for a very short time. It can be lying and we never truly know the whole story.

We are so good at showing others on social media that everything is “fine”, and we can never correctly judge what they post on social media. Remember that someone who looks very well does not mean that they are not dealing with something bigger under the surface.

You can never compare your inside with someone else’s outside. So next time you find someone showing off something on social media, cease feeling sad about yourself.

1. By saying “I don’t think Jenny is alone”, the writer means that ________ .
A.Jenny has many friends on the Facebook
B.not just Jenny doesn’t live a perfect life
C.many people feel the same about using Facebook
D.more and more people are using Facebook recently
2. What is implied about people who use social media in paragraph 2?
A.They are usually very happy about their lives.
B.They often travel in order to take good pictures.
C.They like posting things that they haven’t really done.
D.They like posting pictures to show their “perfect” life.
3. What does the underlined word “cease” in the last paragraph mean?
A.stopB.beginC.changeD.keep
4. The passage is most probably written to tell us to stop _______.
A.feeling sad about ourselvesB.showing off on social media
C.comparing ourselves with othersD.using Facebook as soon as possible
