1 . New technology rules the whole world now. But I still remember when I was a child, I did not have a cell phone or a computer because it was not necessary at all in those days. The internet was not popular, and the touch screen technology was unknown.
At this time here in the US smartphone are really a need, especially for young and business people. There are many applications really useful like maps, dictionaries, e-mails and games.
For me, I use my smartphone to check the weather and to look for something on the internet and of course to keep communicating through calls and texts. Besides, I like music applications, GPS and Facebook.
Many tests have discovered that cell phones cause damages to us because they send out radioactive(具有放射性的) waves to our bodies and this could cause cancer.
Psychologists say that these devices can affect behavior and I believe everyone knows it is harmful to the eyes if we are sitting for a long time in front of computer. However, it seems to be difficult for us to give up, even if we know how bad it is for our health. The use of technology becomes more and more important in our lives.
I think the use of technology has brought us unimaginable things. If we use technology correctly, I am sure it would be possible to decrease the damage to our bodies.
Keep in mind that it is important not to focus only on technology, but to spend time with our families and people close to us.

Students need enough sports and activities to keep fit and relax, and in some schools students are not giving enough time to do outdoor activities. Teachers ask students to spend most of their time at studies. But if students feel tired, they can’t pay attention to that they’re studying. They will be in a bad health. It’s also not good for his studies. In my opinions, it’s important give students enough time to do outdoor activities. Then they will enjoy better health and work hard. So please pay more attention to student health and growth.
A Some students are just crazy about computer games. People have to accept the fact that these machines are having a terrible effect on students’ reading ability. Students are no longer interested in reading these days. Instead, they just stare at the computer screen, pushing those buttons. They don’t have to use their brains or their memory. Obviously, these machines are the cause of so much underachievement in today’s society. | B Game developers worry about how to prevent people copying the games illegally. Some companies have been trying to make sure that everyone who plays the game is a legal user. For example, you might have to have an internet connection to play. This is a problem for some people if their internet connection isn’t reliable. So they would rather buy pirated versions (盗版) which don’t have these limits. |
C I realize that a lot of these play-for-free games are designed to make money. You play for free, but once you’ve devoted time and effort to your game, you start paying real money to progress further into the game. With people spending lots of money on virtual (虚拟的) items, I can see why governments might want to make rules for games like these. | D A lot of games are attractive because the virtual world is fairer than the real world. Your success isn’t determined by your age, social position or education. Besides, the sense of being together in the gaming world is really strong. Therefore, people should stop blaming these games and start thinking about how we can bring the good things of gaming into our real lives. |

8 . Facebook is widely used in the US, Britain and many other countries. But should children under 13 be allowed to use it? Well, whether children under 13 are allowed to use it or not, many of them are doing that. They use it to find out what shopping center to meet in after school tomorrow and what park to hang out in on Saturday afternoon. Under-13s might not have Facebook accounts, both here and in the US, but that hasn’t stopped hundreds of thousands of them from using dates of birth which are not true to start an account.
Yes, of course parents like me worry that means our kids are at risk of both being bullied (欺凌) and of bullying others. But the important thing to realize here is that bullying takes place in the school lunch hall or on the playground. No one is trying to stop under-13s from those places, right?
Some fear that their children are prey (受害者) for bad people on Facebook. Again, does your kid travel alone or go to a shopping center without you? Most children do from the time they go to high school. And just as you teach them the rules for staying safe when they’re out and alone, you teach them the rules for staying safe online.
Facebook is about what life is about, which is connecting with others. When children are young, we supervise (监管) them. As they get older, we trust them to connect without us around all the time. And what Facebook does is to teach our kids a language that will surely be important to their future, because today’s children are going to be interacting (互动) online with friends, and in the future business partners and customers for the rest of their lives. Why, when we’re trying to educate them in useful skills on other fronts, hold them back on this one?

9 . Whenever we see a button, we are eager to press it because we know something will happen. This is true in most cases, for example on a doorbell and on the “on/off” button on the TV. But some buttons are actually fake, like the “close” button on a lift.
Many people are in the habit of pressing the “close” button because they don’t have the patience to wait for the lift doors to shut. But lifts’ “close” buttons are a complete scam (骗局), at least in the US — the doors will not close any faster no matter how hard you press.
It started in the 1990s when the Americans with Disabilities Act was passed in the US, making sure that all lifts stayed open long enough so that people with disabilities could enter. Only US firefighters and repairmen can use the buttons to speed up the door-closing process if they have a code or special keys.
But to normal lift riders, the buttons aren’t completely useless. According to psychologists, fake buttons can actually make you feel better by offering you a sense of control.
“Perceived (能够感知的) control is very important. It reduces stress and increases well-being,” Ellen J. Langer, a psychology (心理学) professor, said, “having a lack of control is associated with depression (沮丧).”
Experts have showed that a lot of buttons that don’t do anything exist in our lives for this same purpose. For example, many offices in the US have fake thermostats (温度调节器) because people tend to feel better when they think they can control the temperature in their workplace.
Pedestrian (行人) crosswalk buttons don’t satisfy their names either. Pressing them used to help make the traffic signals change faster, but that was before computer-controlled traffic signals were introduced.
But psychologists found it interesting that even when people are aware of these little “white lies”, they still continue to push fake buttons because as long as the doors eventually close, it is considered to be worth the effort.
“That habit is here to stay,” John Kounios, a psychology professor, said. “Even though I have real doubts about the traffic light buttons, I always press them. After all, I’ve got nothing else to do while waiting. So why not press the button in the hope that this one will work?”
