Last month, I was playing outside while I heard a cat crying. I found her behind the parked car. She seemed very hungrily. I fed her, and she seemed to want to stay with me. I wondered where the sweet cat came from. I named him “Mystery”. A few day later, I noticed a phone number on Mystery’s coat. I called the number but got in touch with her owner. The same day, a lady comes to pick up the cat. The lady thanked to me and said the cat was that her daughter wanted for the coming Christmas. I was sad to see Mystery go, but I felt pleasing that the girl’s Christmas wish came true.

3 . The Taj Mahal (泰姬陵) is a love story, a sad and beautiful one. If it didn’t exist, we would easily imagine that the story of its construction was simply a fairy tale. Three hundred years ago, there lived an Indian emperor called Shah Jahan. His wife was a beautiful and bright woman whom he loved greatly. Her title was Mumtazl Mahal: its shortened form Taj Mahal, means “pride of the palace”. In the year 1630 this beloved wife of the emperor died. He was so brokenhearted that he thought of giving up his throne. He decided, out of his love for his wife, to build her the most beautiful tomb that had ever been seen.
He summoned the best artists and architects from India, Turkey, Persia and Arabia and finally, the design was complete. It took more than twenty thousand men working over a period of 18 years to build the Taj Mahal, one of the most beautiful buildings in the world.
The building itself stands on a marble platform 29 metres square and 6-7 metres high. Towers rise from each of the four corners. The Taj itself soars another 61 metres into the air. It is an eight-sided building made of white marble.
The emperor planned to build an identical tomb of black marble for himself on the other side of the river connected by a silver bridge. However, his son put him into a prison in the palace before he could finish, and for the rest of his life, he could only gaze across river at the tomb of his beloved wife.

4 . Lisa Pina never thought she would need the fire safety training she received when she was a student learning painting. On Friday morning, she felt so thankful for having got the training.
On Thursday night, while Pina was looking after her granddaughter, nephew and two nieces in her sister’s apartment, she smelled smoke and realized the apartment building was on fire. When her 4-year-old granddaughter Garcia began saying, “we’re going to die”, she knew she had to act. Pina first closed the door, and then told all four children to lie on the floor. After calling 911, she told the children to start singing and promised them whatever they wanted to have as soon as they reached safety.
“I said, ‘OK, we’re going to lie down and we’re all going to play a game,’” Pina said. “We all started singing our ABCs and 123s. I was just trying to make it fun.”
Pina waited with patience, and a few minutes later, firefighters arrived. Pina and the children were all trapped on the second floor as flames filled the first floor.
Pina did the only thing she could. She opened the window and dropped the children, one by one, into the arms of the firefighters’ about 15-20 feet below.
“I just needed to keep the kids calm so they wouldn’t be frightened,” Pina said. “I was actually afraid inside, but I couldn’t let them know that.”

I paid the visit to my music teacher at his house for his birthday on the other day. I took him a bunch (束) of flower with a birthday card as a gift. To his excitement, my teacher also gives me a surprise. He treated me to something which I thought was the best, and it carefully prepared by his wife. It included delicious dishes, fruits or drinks. They even packed some food for me to take to my family along with quite a few apples picking from the tree in their yard. I felt very thankfully for their treat.
6 . One day, Vinod Menon, head of the physics department at City College of New York, was going through his office mails. He opened a box, only to find $180,000 with a nameless letter and a return address. Having never seen so much money, he was too shocked to know what to do with it.
City College of New York is one of the most-productive public university systems in the United States, and the physics department has played a key role. Three Nobel Prize winners in physics received their education there, and in 1921 Albert Einstein gave one of his first lectures at the Harlem campus.
“Supposing that you are a bit curious as to why I am doing this, the reason is simple,” the letter read. It continued to explain that many years before, its generous writer had taken advantage of the excellent educational opportunity, available at City College to study physics, earn a master’s degree, and do a long, productive, well-rewarding scientific job. The sender wished to offer the money to poor students learning physics and other sciences.
The return address was to a house in Pensacola, Florida whose owners had no idea of the money. The money was first put aside, but after the two-month-long research which had found nothing that could link it to activities which are not lawful, the leaders of the college decided to keep and make good use of the money.
Dr. Menon, who grew up in India, noted that the gift would provide for two fully-funded scholarships every year for ten years, and that he would try to see it go into the hands of the students who had the fewest means — such as immigrants like him.

10 . I had a picnic one day with my sister. We both like to ride her motorcycle and that day we rode it to the nearest park. We bought some coffee and cakes, and then we enjoyed our food. Within a few hours, the sky changed and looked ready for a heavy rain. We packed everything and were ready to go. My sister, who was sitting on a bench suddenly was very still and couldn't talk to me.She couldn't move. Her eyes were rolling and she was about to lose consciousness(知觉). I held her in my arms and asked if she wanted to rest. She didn’t answer and only said“Sorry.”
It started to rain and I didn't know what to do. She was fighting to stay aware but her skin was pale and her eyes were acting strangely. Suddenly, from nowhere, a woman on a bicycle appeared. wearing a raincoat." She isn't looking good. Do you want me to call an ambulance(救护车)?”“Yes, please, yes!”I begged.
She did. Struggling with the rain, she managed to call some policemen, who quickly helped me carry my sister to a safer place. The ambulance arrived and we went to a hospital where she was treated in time and she came to life the next morning after some rest and medical help.
An interesting fact was that I guessed the woman in the raincoat was a doctor or a nurse. I later learned from one of the police officers who told me: “No.She was an ordinary person who took some courses on emergency situations(紧急情况).”
