文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。文章介绍了新的研究发现消极情绪对于心理健康是必不可少的,同时介绍了处理负面情绪的方法。

1 . Anger and sadness are important in life. New research shows that experiencing and accepting such feelings is good.

Positive (积极的) thoughts and feelings are, of course, good for our health. But unpleasant feelings are just as important as the enjoyable ones in helping us understand life’s ups and downs. Negative (消极的) feelings are important because they can tell us that we may have a health problem, or we need to pay attention to other important matters such as friendship.

Instead of avoiding negative feelings, we should accept them. Many people find it helpful to breathe slowly and deeply while learning to accept negative feelings or imagine the feelings as clouds to remind them that they will pass.

If the feelings are very strong, you may want to express how you feel in a diary or to other persons. You may want to tell the friend that her words hurt you or take steps to leave the job that makes you unhappy.

You should pay attention to your breathing and simply acknowledge (承认) any bad thoughts or feelings. This may make it easier to accept unpleasant thoughts.

It is impossible to avoid negative feelings fully, because to live is to experience losing and pain. Therefore, learning how to deal with those feelings is very important.

A.What positive and negative thoughts and feelings are.

A.①②③B.②③④C.①③④D.①②④
4. What can we infer from the last paragraph of the passage?
A.We will experience more bad feelings than the good ones.
B.Some people will only experience losing and pain in their lives.
C.We can avoid bad feelings because we can choose to forget them.
D.Everyone will experience anger and sadness during his lifetime.
5. What’s the best title of this passage?
A.Anger and SadnessB.Ups and Downs
C.Positive and Negative IdeasD.Activities in People’s Life

文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。文章介绍了年轻人在成长过程面临的情绪问题。

3 . Being a young adult has got to be one of the most difficult times in a person’s life. You’re at a stage when you don’t feel like a child anymore and you aren’t ready to take up all the responsibilities that adulthood brings with it either.     1

Need to express

At this stage, there is a need for expression of thoughts and feelings. But they don’t understand that this need to express themselves can’t be used in whichever way they want, but has to be used with caution.     2

Need to be an independent adult

3     There is a need to be an independent adult, yes, but they haven’t learned the ropes of it yet and therefore when parents try to discipline them, they want to oppose and put forth their rights as adults. Therefore, they often go through the “no one understands me” stage, which can lead to many problems like anger and frustration.

Need for acceptance

In addition, being part of a group and developing healthy relationships and getting acceptance from them are of prime importance to young adults.     4     When these things happen, they often get into a self-pitying mode.

Need to succeed

There is an innate need to stand on their own feet.     5     If there is any hurdle on that path, it leads to varied psychological problems like stress, depression, and anger.

These are some of young adults’ emotional problems. If you’ve been faced with them, seek help and treat them.

A.This is where the problems of discipline arise.
B.Therefore, don’t ignore these emotional needs.
C.And they want to prove themselves to the world.
D.But there are also misunderstandings and conflicts in a group.
E.So there will be varied emotional issues that can trouble a young adult.
F.They therefore find it difficult to deal with the pressures of mincing their words (婉转地说).
G.Now that you know what some problems of young adults can be, it’ll help you be prepared.

文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。介绍如何从内心培养高度的自尊即学会喜爱自己、结交积极的人、取代消极的评价以及对自己拥有的成就心存感激。

4 . The popularity of Facebook has caused a shift in how people realize themselves: the “like” button has become nothing more than a self-esteem (自尊) booster.     1     It can take years and years, but there are shortcuts you can use to achieve it.

2     You’re not arrogant (自大的) if you love yourself. In fact, arrogance is often the foundation of low self-esteem and insecurity. Try this exercise: stand in front of the mirror and tell your reflection everything you love about yourself. Accept what you don’t like about yourself. This may feel uncomfortable at first, but change often does.

Do you socialize with negative people?     3     This may seem unfair, but those negative people will simply strengthen what you don’t like about yourself. People like to socialize with happy, positive people. The happiest people in life are the ones that look at what they have, not what they don’t have.

There are a lot of people who aren’t aware they have a negative voice in their head.

4     Whenever you hear a negative comment, immediately replace it with a positive one. Your brain is like a computer: whatever command you input, it responds, so if you ask it a question like “why do I always mess up?” your brain will find plenty of examples to support it.

Celebrating your successes is another good way. We’re often so busy in life that we seldom take the time to stop and really reflect on what we’ve achieved. Take the time once a day to ask yourself what you’re proud of having achieved that day.     5     Remember that it’s not the outcome that’s always important, but the process.

A.Learn to love yourself.
B.Catch your negative self-talk.
C.Appreciate how far you’ve come.
D.If so, consider finding new friends.
E.When self-esteem is high, we lose our fear of envy.
F.Of course not, few people like socializing with negative people.
G.But what’s important is to develop high self-esteem from inner.

文章大意:这是一篇说明文。文章就如何克服开始新事物时所产生的焦虑提出几种方法。

5 . Why do we feel anxiety about starting something new? Why do we hold ourselves back from beginning a new job, a new business, starting or ending a relationship?     1    .

The first way we can begin to deal with our anxiety is to acknowledge it. When we don’t acknowledge our fear,     2    . That’s why it’s so important to reflect on why you are hesitant to begin your new project. Without reflection, fear runs rampant (猖獗的). But once the anxiety is acknowledged, you can begin to ease it with logical and emotional arguments.

3    . One powerful way to ease your fears is to embrace your anxiety. Get familiar with the feeling of being afraid, and accept it! It’s there to protect you, but it doesn’t have to control you. In fact, go ahead and accept that failure is possible. Even plan on doing it wrong first.

Another way to reduce anxiety is to concentrate your life on leaning, instead of achievement. When you shit your focus away from badges of success and to a learning mindset,     4    . Your ultimate goal is simply to learn.

Finally, just remember everyone feels fear. Everyone has to go through learning periods before they find what really works. All the most successful people have actually just failed more than regular people. Though having failed many times, they’ve ended up learning more than most and building something great.     5    . That’s why we need courage. So if all else fails, just do it scared.

A.it’s easy to let it control us
B.we’re nervous to reveal ourselves
C.Next, accept the possibility of failure
D.it makes trying new things much less scary
E.Try the following to overcome that fear and move forward
F.Secondly, failure does not make you any less worthy of trying
G.Actually, anxiety about starting something new never really goes away

文章大意:这是一篇应用文。文章主要讲述了缓解考试焦虑的方法。

6 . If you are someone who suffers from exam anxiety (焦虑), know that you aren’t alone. There are things that you can do to try and reduce this.

Simply being aware of what is causing your anxiety can help to lessen exam anxiety. Take some time to think about what could be causing your anxiety.     1

Most of the time, the key to reducing exam anxiety is preparedness. Make an early start on your revision. Starting six weeks before the examination is recommended.     2     Take enough time to do yourself justice.

Revision is about revisiting things you have previously learned, not teaching yourself a new topic.     3     Let’s say you struggle with English and you have no idea how to begin your revision, then an English teacher would be advisable.

Sometimes you feel very calm during the revision period, but panic (惊慌) sets in the night before.     4     You need to get enough sleep if you want to function properly during your exam. Use relaxation methods like meditation if you start to panic.

Maybe you have been fine the whole time, and you haven’t felt any anxiety.     5     Firstly, make sure that you do everything to keep you physically comfortable. Have you been to the toilet? Are you too hot or too cold? Then take some deep breaths. Remember that most people will be nervous; it’s natural. So just focus on your exam.

A.These are the most common causes.
B.The night before your exam is important.
C.Make sure you have everything you need for the exam.
D.Then you walk into the exam hall, and it rushes over you.
E.If you feel you are really behind, you could turn to a private teacher.
F.Once you know the causes, you will better understand how to treat it.
G.But this can change depending on where you feel you are in your studies.

文章大意:这是一篇说明文。本文主要讨论压力的优缺点。文章告诉我们适度的压力可以促进我们的表现,但是一旦压力过大,就会给我们的生活带来很多的负面影响。

7 . Stress used to be an almost unknown word, but now that we are used to talking about it, I have found that people are beginning to get stressed about being stressed.

In recent years, stress has been regarded as a cause of a whole range of medical problems, from high blood pressure to mental illness.

But like so many other things, it is only too much stress that does you harm. It is time you considered that if there were no stress in your life, you would achieve little. If you are stuck at home with no stress, then your level of performance will be low. Up to a certain point, the more stress you are under, the better your performance will be.

Beyond a certain point, though, further stress will only lead to exhaustion, illness and finally a breakdown. You can tell when you are over the top and on the downward slope, by asking yourself a number of questions. Do you, for instance, feel that too much is being expected of you, and yet find it impossible to say no? Do you find yourself getting impatient or annoyed with people over unimportant things?... If the answer to all those questions is yes, you had better control your stress, as you probably are under more stress than is good for you.

To some extend you can control the amount of stress in your life. Doctors have worked out a chart showing how much stress is involved in various events. Getting married is 50, pregnaney 40, moving house 20, Christmas 12, etc. If the total stress in your life is over 150, you are twice as likely to get ill.

1. What can we learn about the stress from Paragraph 2?
A.It makes you expect too much.
B.It lets you never say “no” when asked for.
C.It can prevent you from getting angry easily.
D.It may let you have got the sickness of high blood.
2. Which can best explain the sentence “If there were no stress in your life, you would achieve little.”?
A.The more stress you are under, the better your performance will be.
B.With much stress, your level of performance will be low.
C.It’s time for you to control your stress.
D.Too much stress is harmful.
3. If the total stress in your life is 160, what does that mean?
A.You are fine.B.Everything is OK.
C.You are likely to have medical problems.D.You have nothing to worry about.
4. What does the text mainly talk about?
A.An unknown word “stress”.B.Stress — good or bad?
C.Various events.D.The cause of high blood.

8 . One spring morning many years ago, I was on southeastern Alaska’s Kupreanof Island when I saw a huge wolf caught in a trap. From her appearance, I realized it was a mother wolf and that somewhere hungry pups (小崽) were waiting for her. I guessed she had been trapped only a few days. So her pups were probably still alive, hungry, surely no more than a few miles away. But I thought if I released the wolf, she would tear me to pieces.

So I decided to search for her pups instead. Following some footprints, I finally found four tiny pups. One by one, I placed them in a bag and headed back. When the mother wolf spotted me, she stood up, possibly picking up the smell of her young. I released the pups, and they raced to her.

What next? I wondered. The mother wolf was clearly suffering. Yet each time I moved in her direction, she let out a threatening sound.

I put up a shelter for myself and was soon asleep nearby. At dawn, I was awakened by the four pups sniffing at my face and hands. I glanced toward the anxious mother wolf. If I could only win her confidence, I thought. It was her only hope. Over the next few days, I fed her, talked gently with her and played with the pups. But the big animal never took her eyes off me. When I was beginning to lose hope, at dusk on the fifth day, I saw a wagging (摇摆) of her tail. I moved within the length of her chain. She remained still. My heart in my mouth, I slowly placed my hand on the wolf’s injured leg. “OK,” I said, “We’ll have you out of there.” I pressed and the trap sprang open, the wolf pulled free.

Slowly, she headed toward me. She smelled my hands and arms and then began licking (添) my fingers. I was astonished. This went against everything I’d ever heard about wolves. Yet, strangely, it all seemed so natural.

1. What did the writer do after he discovered the mother wolf?

9 . “Patience” is a word that you have probably heard a lot! But you may wonder, “What on earth is patience, and why does everyone keep telling me to have it?”

Patience is waiting for something or someone. It is accepting delay without getting angry or upset!

It is waiting for someone else to speak when you have something to say!

It is waiting to eat before everyone is at table!

It is waiting for your birthday even though you may want a present now!

Patience is trying something again when you want to give up.

Patience doesn’t sound like much fun. And to be truthful, sometimes, it’s not. And with so much technology in the world,we don’t always have to be patient. For example, we are able to stream our favorite TV shows on our cell phones, go to restaurants where food is served hot and fast, among many other things.

So, why wait when we can have everything right now? Because just about any successful person has patience. Many good and important things take patience. For example, most great inventors and explorers have a lot of patience!

When Thomas Edison invented the light bulb, it took him over 1,000 tries!

It took the Wright Brothers years to invent the airplane!

It took 8 years to send a man to the moon!

It takes between 150 and 300 days to travel from Earth to Mars!

If great inventors did not have patience and self-control, you would likely not be reading this right now. In fact, you might be living in a cave or tent somewhere. You would have no electricity, no car, no school and almost certainly no Internet!

1. In which of the following cases is “patience” needed?
A.When you are sitting at the dinner table.
B.When you are speaking.
C.When you are receiving a present.
D.When you have given up trying.
2. What does the author think about a cell phone?
A.It’s a funny invention.B.It makes us less patient.
C.It reduces our waiting time.D.It helps us to communicate.
3. What can we conclude from the last paragraph?
A.Great inventions call for patience.B.We have to take control of ourselves.
C.Great discoveries can be made in a cave.D.Our society can’t do without electricity.
4. What’s the main purpose of the text?
A.To sell.B.To advertise.
C.To persuade.D.To introduce.
