1 . Doctors say anger can be an extremely damaging emotion, unless you learn how to deal with it. They warn that anger can lead to heart disease, stomach problems, headaches, emotional problems and possibly cancer.

1    Some people express anger openly in a calm reasonable way. Some people burst with   anger, and scream and yell.    2    They can not or will not express it. This is called repressing anger.

For years many doctors thought that repressing anger was more dangerous to a person’s health than expressing it. They said that when a person is angry, the brain releases the same hormones ( 荷 尔蒙 ). They speed the heart rate, raise blood pressure, or sugar into the blood, etc.    3

Some doctors say that both repressing and expressing anger can be dangerous. They believe that those who express anger violently may be more likely to develop heart disease, and they believe that those who keep anger inside may face a greater danger of high blood pressure.

4    They say the first step is to admit that you are angry and to recognize the real cause of the anger, and then decide if the cause is serious enough to get angry about. If it is, they say,           5    Wait until your anger has cooled down and you are able to express yourself calmly and reasonably.”

Doctors say that a good way to deal with anger is to find humor in the situation that has made you angry. They said that laughter is much healthier than anger.

A.In general, the person feels excited and ready to act.
B.But other people keep their anger inside.
C.Expressing anger violently is more harmful than repressing it.
D.Anger may cause you a cancer.
E.Do not express your anger while angry.
F.Anger is a normal emotion that we all feel from time to time.
G.Doctors say the solution is learning how to deal with anger.

2 . I really love this saying, “Love is endless and unlimited.” For me, there’s a story behind it. When I used to hand out chocolates with beautiful paper bags, my friends always told me, “You are wasting time and money. No one here believes in nameless gifts.” To be honest, I have noticed that people here do donate (捐赠)in temples. They give food to the poor, and provide clothes and other things for whoever is in need.

I think maybe I am the one who starts to think of the dogs in our neighborhood. When I moved into this new community, I noticed that there were two street dogs. They were wounded and homeless, and everyone used to stay away from them and hit them when they came any closer. They were becoming thinner and thinner and they would did of hunger sooner or later.

But my habit of loving dogs has changed all these things. I began to walk close to them and give them food regularly. When I touched their heads and gave love to them, I could see tears in their eyes. My friends noticed, and now even kids and elders in the community provide them with food and also love them. I am really glad to see that I saved their lives.

What I started will lead to beautiful memories with them. They enjoy playing with me and they even have a particular pose when they see me. I see a sparkle in their eyes and a smile on their faces. They are priceless for me.

1. Why did the author’s friends discourage him to hand out chocolates?
A.Because people didn’t need gifts.
B.Because it cost too much money.
C.Because people didn’t trust strangers.
D.Because dogs could not eat chocolates.
2. What did people think of the dogs in the community at first?
A.Lovely.B.Frightening.C.Exciting.D.Unpleasant.
3. How did people react to the author’s kindness to the dogs?

C.They began to care for the dogs.D.They offered him food for the dogs.

4 . My husband and I had tried for many years to have children, but it just never happened. So we applied to be foster parents(养父母). We decided we should start with an older child for a number of reasons. Since we both worked, child care might be a problem. Our dog Corby might be a bit too energetic for a young child.    1    We sat back and prepared to wait for the few months they thought it might take to get a school-age child to pass——which was why we were at a loss when the agency called us within weeks, just before Christmas, and asked if we would take Kaleb, a two-and-a-half-year-old boy, for a few months.

This wasn't what we had discussed a few weeks before.    2    It was such short notice. We had made holiday plans and most of all, the boy was toddler(初学走路的孩子)! We went back and forth, and in the end, we just couldn't say no.

The day was set for Kaleb to arrive. We went outside to greet our little guest. But before we could even reach the child, I heard a noise from behind me.    3    I gasped(因惊异吸气). Corby would frighten Kaleb——probably even knock him down.

Corby reached Kaleb before either of us could grab her. She hounded up to the boy and immediately began licking his face with joy.    4    . His face light up with excitement, he cried, "Can this be my dog?

Kaleb came to stay those few months.    5    Yes, we’adopted Kaleb. He became our son, and Corby…well, she couldn’t have been happier. She turned out to be Kaleb’s dog, after all.

A.Privately, I was full of doubts.
B.There were so many difficulties,
C.Eight and a half years later, he is still with us.
D.Turning, I saw Corby heading straight for the little boy.
E.In our hurry, we must not have closed the door completely.
F.And honestly,we were a little nervous about taking on a baby.
G.In response, this little boy threw his arms around the dog’s neck and turned toward us.

5 . When you're a teen you start being more aware of what other people think. There seems to be a “right” thing to wear, or say, or do. There also seem to be things that you shouldn’t do-things that could be embarrassing, or lose your points with friends. This can lead to social anxiety.

Some kids feel so anxious that they develop something called social anxiety disorder (障碍), which is diagnosed (诊断) when you worry so much about how you appear to others that you stop doing things you need to and want to do for fear of embarrassing yourself.

Kids with social anxiety disorder aren't just nervous when they’re at parties or giving a speech in class. Even small interactions (互动), like answering a question in class or eating with friends in the cafeteria can feel extremely scary to kids with social anxiety disorder. That's because they fear they might accidentally do something embarrassing or offensive, and it will make others judge or even reject them.

And while kids who are just shy will gradually warm up to new people and situations over time, kids with social anxiety don't. Shyness might hold you back to some degree from doing things, but it won't deeply influence your ability to do your job as a teenager, which is to function in school, function in your family, and to have friends and be a part of your peer-related community. But social anxiety will.

Many teens experience anxiety disorders. Being brave and telling someone how you feel might seem scary, but if you can get over that obstacle, someone will want to listen. Asking for help can be hard, but it really is important.

1. What is the main cause of social anxiety?
A.Lack of friendship.B.One's appearance.
C.School performance.D.Other’s judgment.
2. Who is most likely to be diagnosed with social anxiety?
A.Alice, who skips school to avoid answering questions in class.
B.David, who always thinks he can't do as well as his classmates.
C.Chris, who feels nervous every time he gives a speech in public.
D.Jenny, who has been in low spirits since she failed the last exam.
3. Social anxiety disorder differs from shyness in that         .
A.it influences people around you
B.it only makes your grades suffer
C.it greatly affects your normal life
D.it is related to your study or work
4. What is the best title for the text?
A.What Is Social Anxiety Disorder
B.How Social Fear Ruins Relationships
C.Why Teens Suffer from Social Anxiety?
D.When Anxiety Disorders Go Unnoticed

6 . Over the last few years, there’s been a trend to focus on gratitude. We can buy different kinds of gratitude journals, or download apps that remind us to write down our blessings.    1    “But it's also important to remember that gratitude is free.”says Laurie Santos, who teaches a course on the science of well-being and happiness at Yale University.

Noting down gratitude seems to pay off. Studies have found that giving thanks can help people sleep better, lower stress and improve interpersonal relationships. Keeping a gratitude journal can decrease materialism and enhance generosity among adolescents.    2    “It’s one practices that really wins out from the field of positive psychology.” she says. Her students, in addition to keeping gratitude journals, are asked to write a thank-you letter and then read it out loud to the recipient (收信人). “They show measurable improvements in well-being even a month after they’ve done this.”she says.

3    One study found that counting blessings once a week boosted happiness, but doing so three times a week didn't. There’s also a lack of research on bow gratitude exercises help people with clinical depression or anxiety. Indeed, for all the research on the broad benefits of expressing gratitude, it isn't for everyone.    4     It can't make injustice, loss or pain disappear.

During really tough times, like when she suffers from poor health, Santos feels like she is reaching for reasons to be grateful. But she still tries to find some. “I’m grateful for the sun that’s shining or being able to wake up,” she says.    5

A.And it isn’t a cure-all.
B.So it doesn’t feel pleasant.
C.Those products remind us to take time to be grateful.
D.What works for some people may not work for others.
E.Gratitude allows her to remember what is going well.
F.Practicing too much gratitude may have undesired effects.
G.That's why gratitude features heavily in Santos' happiness class.

10 . You probably hear the word “love” many times each week. You may hear it from a parent, a friend, in your place of worship, on tv or in a book.

1     You may use the word love about a song, a food or your family pet. You may tell family members you love them. As you can see, there are many kinds of love!   But not all kinds of love are created equal.

So what does love mean to you?    2     Love gives life meaning and purpose.   As Mahatma Gandhi once said, “Where there is love there is life.”   In the dictionary, love is defined as a strong, positive feeling you have for someone or something.     3    People show their love not just with what they say or feel, but by what they do.

At it’s core, love is about being kind and doing good things for others. A famous verse from the bible describes how love is more than just a feeling, but the way you act and treat others.       4    It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.”

5    This allows us to love others no matter what. Showing love allows us to put the needs of others before our own.

So what are some ways that you could show love? It could be as simple as volunteering at a local soup kitchen. Maybe telling those we love how important they are! Consistently showing love will build a habit and fulfill you as well.

A.Love is patient, love is kind.
B.But it is also a lot more than that.
C.And what kind of love is most important?
D.You may even say the word love a lot yourself!
E.So what are some ways that you could show love?
F.Before we can show love though, we must first love ourselves.
G.Consistently showing love will build a habit and fulfill you as well.
