It was a morning in January. The jet stream(急流)had dipped down, causing the Arctic cold to reach the mountains of my home. It was only 2 degrees outside, but the cold wind made it feel like it was 15 below zero. Still, I was kneeling in the snow alongside my house trying to open a tiny door, so I could get in. I had forgotten to leave my water dripping(滴水)the night before and now my water pipes were frozen and my faucets(水龙头)were dry.

The wind cut into me like a knife while I struggled to get two electric heaters in place around the section of frozen pipes. The waterlines were buried except for a small piece that connected up to my house. I put a heater on each side of it, ran the extension cords(软线)into my house and plugged them in. Both heaters roared to life and started blowing hot air on the frozen water pipes. My fingers had already started to go numb, so I stayed inside to wait. I could only hope that this bit of warmth could get my water flowing again. Finally, after twenty minutes, the water started flowing through my faucets again. I went back outside into the biller cold and gathered my heaters up. I looked at the weak January sun shining on the frozen snow and smiled. Then I sent a joy filled with "Thank you" heavenward and returned inside to make myself a hot breakfast.

Sometimes the coldness of this life can get to us as well. It can make our hearts feel icy and frozen. It can keep our kindness and love from flowing out to others. Sometimes, though, all we need is a bit of warmth to get us going again. It can be a simple smile, a kind word, a heart-felt hug, a morning sunrise, a bird's song or any gentle reminder of just how much God loves us. Let us all be grateful for those bits of warmth that gel us going again. And let us all try to be that bit of warmth for others every chance we get.

C.Broke down suddenly.D.Screamed out loudly.
3. What did the author think of his work?
A.Embarrassed.B.Satisfied.
C.Mad with joyD.Disappointed
4. What is the last paragraph mainly centered on?
A.The coldness of life has a negative effect on our life quality.
B.We meet with the coldness of life unavoidably and unwillingly.
C.We should be thankful for bits of warmth of life.
D.We should seize every chance to receive warmth of life from others.

【推荐1】I always felt sorry for the people in wheelchair. Some people, old and weak, cannot get around by themselves. Others seem perfectly healthy, dressed in business suits. But whenever I saw someone in a wheelchair, I only saw a disability, not a person.
One day, I fainted because of low blood pressure. It scared my parents. The doctor said that I must rest for a while. I agreed to take it easy but, as I stepped to the door, I saw my dad pushing a wheelchair in my direction! Feeling the color burn my face, I asked him to push that thing right back to where he found it.
I could not believe this was happening to me. Wheelchairs were fine for other people but not for me, as my father wheeled me out into the main street, people immediately began to treat me differently.
Little kids ran in front of me, forcing my father to stop the wheel chair suddenly. People looked down at me, pity in their eyes. Then they would look away, maybe because they thought the sooner they forgot me , the better they would feel.
“I’ m just like you!” I wanted to scream. “The only difference is you’ve got legs, and I have wheels. ” But I had to taste the bitterness (痛苦) by myself.
People in wheelchairs are not different. They see every look and hear each word. Looking out at the faces, I finally understood: I was once just like them. I treated people in wheelchairs exactly the way they did not want to be treated.I realized it is some of us with two healthy legs who are truly disabled.

B.People often eat their bitter fruit.
C.Don’t do to others what you don’t want others to do to you.
D.Life is so changeable that nobody can know it until it happens.

【推荐2】Hi, everyone, my name is Isabella and I’m an artist and fashion designer. But today, I’m not here to specially talk to you about art or fashion. Today I want to talk to you about dreams and stories.

Did you know that 4-minute mile once thought to be impossible? It was something outside we can consider. But in 1954, a guy named Bannister achieved. 35 In the following two months, two other runners broke 4-minute record and in the following three years and 19 runners continued. And now, it’s common for an experienced runner to be able to run a mile under 4 minutes. It’s just that they didn’t think it was impossible any more.

So we should dream big. I have always to be encouraged to dream big. And I think when you’re very little and maybe don’t know any better it’s easier to do because there’s fearlessness before you become afraid of something. What did you want to be? A movie star, an actor or an astronaut. Maybe you didn’t achieve these dreams, as you got older. Because as you got older, you became afraid. It’s important to hold on your fearlessness just like a child. Because it’s fearlessness that helps us achieve our dreams.

I’m a big fan of what I called dream board. It’s just a piece of paper. There’re lots of pictures of things I would like to achieve and I put it in a place where I see it every day and that helps me. I started doing this a few years ago because I read a study in the US showing that people who made dream boards are more likely to achieve them. I know this may not be new or useful to everyone, but for me, the act of making my dream board every year and seeing it every morning really helps me.

Another thing that I really believe in is the world. I believe that once you have your dreams and begin to work for it, people start appearing in your life that can offer support and help… So let’s face it, there’s going to be a lot of challenges but to get through. I think courage is needed.

In conclusion, after all of this dreaming you have to work hard and put a lot of time into everything you’re doing and have courage because there’s going to be a lot of difficulty but just remember the world is trying to help you. I know that I’m not the only one that has dreams. Everybody has dreams. You just need to work hard to achieve them.

Thank you!
