1 . Emily Bhatnagar has always loved reading. “Growing up, I was really shy. So I turned to books,” she said. In 2019, her dad got cancer(癌症). It was very serious. Books became an even bigger support for Emily.
When her dad got better, Emily came up with a plan to help others. “The idea came from just great gratitude(感激),” she says. “But also a bit of sadness that there were kids who were fighting the same illness.”
Emily started a book drive in her hometown. The goal was to collect books and give them to kids being treated for cancer in local hospitals. Emily and her father are very close. When her father learned of her plans for the book drive, he wasn’t surprised. “She was always interested in books, and she always wanted to do things for the neighborhood,” he says. Since the start of the book drive, Emily has collected more than 10, 000 books.
Emily had no idea how much attention her work would get. She started by posting on social media. She asked people to donate(捐赠) books. “I was expecting maybe two or three responses,” she says. But the book drive went well and became a big success!
Emily has donated books to many places. One is the Children’s Inn at the National Institutes of Health. Aisha Campbell is a director there. She says, “Donations like Emily’s share with kids and families a piece of the world that they may not have experienced.”
Emily still runs the book drive. The memory of meeting the children she helps stays with her. “It was the best day of my life,” she says. “I realized I wanted to do this kind of work forever.”

8 . Yan Minwen, a retired(退休的) engineer in Beijing. set up a free class to teach left-behind children in her hometown in Hebei Province.
Although Yan is not a teacher, it is a common wish of her and her husband to open such a class in the village. She told her husband that she wanted to open a class in her hometown, and her husband agreed.
