Zhou Huosheng is a famous teacher. He passed away at the age of 88 on February 14th, 2022. He is famous for his much help with Project Hope. It was started to stop the poor children from dropping out of school. He got lots of prizes for this.

When he heard of Project Hope in 1993, he gave away 1,000 yuan for the first time. At that time, his monthly salary (月薪) for his job was about 100 yuan. So he had to think about how to help those poor children. At last, he got the idea of selling books. He always carried books that weighed more than 10 kilos, although he was just over 40 kilos.

In 1995, Zhou visited the Hope Primary School in the mountains of Jinzhai, Anhui for the first time, after travelling over 600 kilometres by train, by bus and on foot. In the following years, he went there 100 times with donations (捐赠物). On May 18th, 2018, Zhou finished his 100th journey. “As long as I can move, I am looking forward to the 101st and 102nd journeys.”

However, he couldn’t make the trip again because of his bad health. Zhou has given away about 500,000 yuan, and changed over 1,300 students’ lives.

Ulises de la Cruz started to play football barefoot (赤脚) as a child. His dream was to become a professional football player. And one day his dream came true. He played for his national team, and later in the English Premier League (英超联赛).

He earned a lot of money, but he didn’t spend his money on fast cars and big houses. When Ecuador reached the World Cup finals (决赛) in 2002, Ulises used the money to buy a fresh water supply (供水系统) for Piquiucho.
