Do you know that people will die early if they have no friends during their lifetime? The survey shows if you want to live longer and more happily, you need to have some friends who can share your sadness and happiness or can be helpful when you are in trouble.
The following four types of friends are just what you need to keep the doctor away.
1. A Loyal Best Friend Everyone needs a friend who will support you in different situations. This kind of friend knows all of your deepest and darkest secrets, but still loves you all the same.
2. A Friendly Neighbor These days, a lot of people don’t know their own neighbors. It’s a shame, because some neighbors can be the most helpful people. If you forget to lock the front door when you are on holiday, you can call your neighbors to lock it for you. So it’s wonderful to have nice and helpful neighbors.
3. A Workmate You’ll find it much easier to chat with someone than eating lunch alone every day. Your workmate doesn’t have to be your best friend. If you two get along well with each other, you can always start going out with them outside of the office.
4. A Friend From a Different Culture If everyone had a friend from a different culture, the world would be a much better place. Remember that don’t be friends with someone just because they’re from a different culture. Instead, keep your mind open, and if you meet someone from other places, try to learn about their customs, values, and traditions.
If you have such kinds of friends, you will surely live longer and more happily.

2 . Born in the 2000s, what do you think of your generation (一代人)? Young, creative, connected, global, smart, maybe good-looking? But what do other people think about your generation?
Some adults worry that you’re more interested in the phone than the world around you. They see you as the “face-down generation” and wonder how you will deal with school, friends, and family. Are today’s teenagers too busy texting and taking selfies (自拍) to become successful in real life or “IRL”, as you would say?
Other adults worry that today’s youth are spoiled (被宠坏) and don’t want to face the challenges of adult life. Many children born in the 1990s and 2000s were raised by “helicopter parents” who were always there to do everything for them. So today’s young people seem to prefer to live like teenagers even when they are in their 20s or 30s.
Does the face-down generation need a heads-up? Well, probably not. The fact is that many of today’s teenagers are better educated and more creative than past generations. They also seem to be willing to become leaders. More young people than ever volunteer to serve their communities. There are also brave young people such as Malala Yousafzai, the teenager who won the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize for pushing girls’ rights to go to school.
So if you are one of them born in the 2000s, there’s reason to be hopeful about the future. Things are looking up for the face-down generation.

3 . Cities are often thought of as concrete jungles (混凝土丛林) that are polluted and overcrowded with people. They are, however, places where there is a great economic (经济的) chance, and that is the reason why people still pour into cities in the hope of having a better future for themselves and their families.
As more and more people live in cities, planners are looking for ways to change cities into better living spaces. The way this is done is by improving infrastructure (基础设施) while also creating more public spaces that are both beautiful and green. This can be hard to achieve, especially in cities where planning was done in no order.
Some cities have been created with the idea of a green city as the goal. One such city, Masdar City in the United Arab Emirates, is to become a model for other cities to follow. It is being declared as a truly green city that depends on renewable sources (可再生资源) such as solar energy to provide all of its energy needs. In addition, it will be a zero waste city where everything can be reused. Whether it will truly reach its goals remains to be seen, but it will also act as an experiment for environmentally-friendly ideas to be tested.
Cities that want to become greener and more habitable (宜居的) have to look at all ways of city life, and Masdar City is at least trying to do this. From the use of energy and dealing with waste to green public transportation, the lessons to be learned from such a huge project as Masdar city may just turn out to be valuable.

Taoxichuan Ceramic Art Avenue, Jingdezhen, Jiangxi
Jingdezhen City is known as China’s porcelain capital (瓷都). It has made good use of old ceramics (陶瓷) factories and built a place named Taoxichuan Ceramic Art Avenue. Nearly 15,000 Chinese and foreign makers have come to set up their own businesses there.

Leoh Ming Pei, one of the world’s best-known architects (建筑师), left over 50 designs during his long career. These stand as his gifts to the world. The glass pyramid of the Louvre Museum in Paris, France might be Pei’s most famous work. Back in the 1980s, the Louvre Museum was having trouble with traffic. To solve the problem, Pei planned to dig an underground hall and place a glass pyramid on top. Many people didn’t like the idea. They said it was too modern for the classical museum. However, the idea turned out to be a success. It is not only the museum’s main entrance, but also a huge skylight (天窗).
In 2006, Pei was invited to build a museum in his hometown Suzhou. He tried to include local and historical ideas in his design. He built small halls with traditional white walls and dark roofs, just like the classical Chinese gardens. Moreover, the lines and windows in the roof bring something modern to the museum.
★ The famous Lion Grove Garden (狮子林) in Suzhou used to be owned by Pei’s family. Pei spent some summers there as a child. Maybe that was when Pei developed his interest in architecture. Pei spent most of his adult years in the US, first studying at universities and then working in different places. Even though he was trained in the US, the beauty of Chinese Classics was well displayed in many of his designs. “I’ve never left China because home is a place your heart always belongs to,” Pei once said.
Over the last century, many building trends (潮流) have come and gone. But the works of Pei have not. “A lasting architecture has to have roots.” Pei once told The New York Times. That may explain why he and his works have stood the test of time.

6 . A group of scientists set out to estimate (估计) the number of ants on Earth. According to their research, there are about 2. 5 million ants for every human on the planet. Then the scientists held 489 studies of ant populations.
The studies covered all kinds of habitats including cities, deserts and forests. The researchers find that most ants live in tropical (热带的) areas and that they are more commonly found in forests and dry areas than in human-made habitats. In addition, the scientists find that the population of ants is more than the number of all the world’s wild birds and animals together.
The researchers say this number is a low estimate. This is because they did not have much information on how many ants live underground. Besides, there were not many trusted studies about how many ants live in certain parts of the world, like Africa.
Ants play very important roles in the environment. They help to spread seeds, help water reach plant roots, and are a kind of food for many living things. Patrick, who did this new estimate, said, “I am sure the whole nature would simply break down without ants.”
For checking their populations, it is useful to estimate how many ants there are. Then the scientists can see if they are becoming less because of harmful changes in the environment worldwide, the number of insects, a group that includes ants, is becoming less. However, it is not clear if the number of ants is becoming less as well.

There are many reasons why this has become popular, especially among those under the age of 30. In modern competitive society, having multiple income streams (多种收入来源) is one of the best ways to create financial security (金融安全) . Zhao Sichen is one follower of the slasher movement. The 34-year-old is an English teacher at Tsinghua University High School. Outside the classroom, Zhao works as a project manager at NetEase. Run with the pancakes Every year in February, people in different places around the UK hold pancake races to celebrate Pancake Day. They have to flip (翻转) the pancake while they run. The races came from a funny story. In 1445, a woman was cooking and was late for a party. She ran to the party with a pancake in a pan. Traditionally, it is a race for housewives only. However, there are not many rules now as it was. _____________________The British hold a competition on Cooper’s Hill in the small English village of Brockworth every year. Hundreds of people run quickly down a 180-meter course down the hill to catch a rolling (滚动的) cheese. Because the hill was so steep (陡峭的) that many competitors fell off the mountain like cheese and broke their bones, local medicals are ready. The person who catches the cheese first wins the game.
