Jump rope(跳绳)games have always been popular around the world. Two students from different countries describe how they used to play jump rope.
Chen Qiurong from China
Rubber band (橡皮筋) jumping, which was only for girls, was popular in my primary school. When we got three persons together, we could start our game.
There were four jumping levels: ankle(脚踩)high, knee high, waist(腰)high, and under the shoulders. As the game continued, the level of jumping got higher and higher. More and more girls tried to jump and we competed as teams. The game was interesting, and it taught us to pull together and compete.
Jimena Baquero from Colombia
When I was a little girl, I spent hours playing a very fun jump rope game at school or in my neighborhood. It was a girls’ game and we never got tired of it.
To play the game, we needed three or more people. A player started by jumping the rubber band at ankle height. Then it was raised to the middle of the legs, then to the knees, the hips (臀部), the waist, the chest, the shoulders, the neck, and the head. In the last level called “heaven”, the band was held up with raised arms. We were so creative and we enjoyed ourselves in a simple way.
