People can easily teach the elephants in India to work after they catch them. So you often see elephants working for people in India. These elephants can also quickly learn to know a man’s voice. They even know whether the man is pleased or angry by his voice.

3 . In ancient China, willow branches（柳枝） were often used as a gift to friends and family members who would leave. Do you know why willow branches are a symbol of saying goodbye?

One reason is that willow trees are strong. They can live in any soil, wet or dry, north or south. Because of this special feature, when saying goodbye to loved ones, giving a willow branch is a way to tell them you hope they will easily get used to their new living environment.

Another reason is that, in Chinese, the pronunciation for the willow tree “柳” is similar to the character “留”. So giving a willow branch in ancient China was like asking the others to stay, even though you know that they must leave.

It’s said that this custom became popular during the Han Dynasty. At that time, Baqiao, a bridge in Chang’an, today’s Xi’an, was a common place to say goodbye. People often stopped there and handed willow branches to people who were going to depart.

Willow branches, as a symbol of saying goodbye, were often mentioned in poems, especially at the time of the Tang and Song dynasties.

4 . Hello, my name is Liu Qiang. I’m a Chinese boy. I have short black hair. I have two big black eyes, a small nose and a big mouth. I have two friends in my class. They are Jenny and Henry. Jenny is from Canada. She is a beautiful girl. She has long blond hair. Her eyes are blue. Henry is an English boy. He has a big nose. His hair is short and red. His eyes are green. We like different food. Jenny likes rice and vegetables, but she doesn’t like meat. Henry likes fish very much, but he doesn’t like noodles. What about me? I like dumplings with meat and cabbage, but I don’t like rice.

5 . Every year there is Spring Festival in China. Usually it is in January or February. It is the most important festival in China. So before it comes, everyone has to prepare things. They buy pork, beef, chicken, fruits and many other things. And they often make a special kind of food—dumplings. It means “come together”. On the day before the festival, parents buy new clothes for their children. Children also buy presents for their parents. On the Spring Festival Eve, all the family members come back to their hometown. This is a happy moment. Some sing and dance, some play cards and others get the dinner ready. Everybody knows that healthy eating habits（习惯） are important. Here are four good eating habits for you.

If you don’t have enough time to have a big meal, take some bread with you for a quick lunch. Don’t eat lunch which has too much oil（油）: If you don’t have lunch, that will be bad for your health.

We should eat fruit and vegetables every day. Add a banana to your breakfast, have salad for lunch, and eat some vegetables at dinner. If someone doesn’t like to eat vegetables, he or she can eat some fruit instead.

Try to have dinner at least 3 hours before going to bed. Your body needs time to digest（消化） most of the food before you rest for 8 hours.

8 . The most basic and powerful way to connect with another person is to listen. Just listen. Perhaps the most important thing we ever give each other is our full attention.

When people are talking, there is no need to do anything but listen to their words. Just take them in. Listen to what they are saying. Care about it. Caring is even more important than understanding. It has taken me a long time to believe in the importance of saying “I’m so sorry” when someone is in trouble.

One of my friends told me that when she tried to tell her story, people often broke in to tell her that something similar happened to them. For some reason or other, her trouble became a story about them. In the end, she stopped talking to most people. She was just too lonely. We connect through listening. When we interrupt (打断) someone to let them know that we understand, we move attention to ourselves. When we listen, they know we care.

It’s not that easy to learn to listen. It certainly went against everything that I was taught. I thought people listened only because they were too shy to speak or did not know the answer. A loving silence often has more importance to help and to connect than the kindest words.

The TV program is getting more and more popular in China. Many people watch it every week because they wonder how talented one can be.

Talent shows began in the UK. And now there are similar shows in lots of countries around the world like the USA and France. China’s Got Talent is the newest, but it is different from others. On the China’s Got Talent, when people show their special talents, they show their most touching or funniest stories. Most of them don’t want to be famous. They even don’t care if they are successful or not. They only want to improve themselves, and they just want to make their family laugh and want to make others laugh, too.

We all have a talent. It may be big or small. What’s your talent? Maybe you can be the next star on China’s Got Talent!
