文章大意:本文讲述了人类应该遵循自然法则发展并介绍了中国等各国以及世界各地的建筑者为绿色发展做出的努力。

1 . Green is the color of nature and the symbol of life. For thousands of years, humans have followed the laws of nature to live in harmony (和谐) with nature.

That has been seen in ancient Chinese houses. Ancient Chinese often built their homes at the foot of the mountain with a river running nearby. The mountains could stop the cold wind from the north and the river provided water for life. Most houses were also built facing south or west so that the rooms were able to get enough sunshine in winter and keep cool in summer.

In modern times, humans didn’t follow the laws of nature during fast development. Luckily, it’s never too late to make changes.

Green development is the goal of all countries. On April 23rd, 2016, China signed the Paris Agreement on climate change, giving a strong push to the international efforts against global (全球的) warming.

Also in China, the government added green development to the country’s work plans. From 1999 to the end of 2018, by carrying out Mother River Protection Operation, China raised 600 million yuan to build over 5,700 green projects. Through international cooperation (合作), over 98.32 million trees were planted across China.

Denmark is a leading country in wind and solar technologies. This year Denmark has started the “Power-to-X” plan, providing about 1.25 billion kroner (about 1.27 billion yuan) for projects producing hydrogen (氢气).

Builders across the world are also playing a role in green development. In Chicago, pressed newspaper, recycled glass and plastic are used on buildings. In Bali, the green school is made from bamboo. The school gets its electricity from solar panels (太阳能电池板), water power and a generator that burns farm waste.

Following the laws of nature is the only way out. A small move in one country may influence the global community as a whole. Let’s join our hands to make the world a better place for now and future.

文章大意:本文主要介绍了中国的待客之道。

2 . As Confucius (孔子) said long time ago, “To meet friends from afar, how happy we are!” Being warm and hospitable (好客的) has long been an important part of Chinese culture and tradition.

China is a nation of etiquette (礼仪). Chinese people are among the most hospitable people in the world. If foreigners visit a Chinese family, they would be surprised at the warmth that they would receive as guests.

When you visit a Chinese family, the host usually makes tea for you. Then he will serve you snacks like biscuits and candies. Someone in the family will also chat with you, never letting you feel lonely.

At the same time, other family members will prepare a meal for you. Chinese people treat their guests with a big meal. They always serve more food than the guest can eat. On the table, the guests must be the first to eat. Perhaps one of the things that surprises a Western guest most is that the Chinese host likes to pick food for their guests. However, it won’t happen at Western tables.

The Chinese family try their best to make you feel at home. As you have done eating, the host usually says, “It seems that you didn’t eat much. Please have more.” Although you tell them you are full, they still put more food in your bowl.

文章大意:本文主要讲述了人工智能工具可以提高工作者的表现,但也可能对工作者的表现产生负面影响。

3 . This year, researchers at Harvard Business School carried out a study which aimed to test how well AI (人工智能) tools could help workers perform their tasks. Harvard Business School recently published results from the experiment in a “working paper.” The main findings suggest that AI tools like ChatGPT can greatly improve worker performance. For example, researchers found that workers who used OpenAI’s latest ChatGPT 4 tool completed 12 percent more tasks than non-ChatGPT users. Tasks carried out with help from the AI technology were completed 25 percent faster. And the team found the quality of work performed by consultants (顾问) using ChatGPT 4 increased about 40 percent.

The findings of the result showed that AI tools can help even highly educated, experienced workers. “The fact is that we could boost (推动) the performance of these highly paid, highly skilled consultants. I would say that’s really impressive.” Dell’Acqua, the lead writer of the paper said.

However, the paper also noted areas where the performance of consultants using ChatGPT 4 dropped. The researchers said this was especially true with tasks the AI tool was not good at completing. Of tasks the AI was good at, the experiment showed it “significantly improved human performance,” the paper said. But for tasks ChatGPT 4 was not right for, “humans depended too much on the AI, and were more likely to make mistakes.” The researchers reported that 19 percent of consultants who used AI for tasks which were not well equipped (有能力的) for were less likely to produce correct solutions compared to those without AI.

The team suggests one of the biggest barriers (障碍) to companies effectively using AI is not knowing which tasks can be completed best with the technology. Finding this out will require businesses to carry out thoughtful research and training efforts in order to find the right mix of AI and human-level work.

1. Which is NOT the result of experiment of AI tools?
A.Workers can finish tasks with fewer mistakes.B.Workers can do more tasks with AI.
C.Workers can complete tasks faster.D.Workers can perform tasks with higher quality.
2. What can we infer (推断) from the passage?
A.OpenAI is ChatGPT 4’s latest AI tool with impressive uses.
B.In order to have more users, businesses will carry out more thoughtful research.
C.People always depend too much on the uses of AI tools.
D.AI tools can help workers with higher education and rich experience.
3. What is the passage mainly about?
A.AI tools can greatly improve worker performance.
B.AI tools have been widely used in humans’ work.
C.AI tools help but also hurt worker performance.
D.AI tools perform high-level writing and creative work.

7 .

On March 14, math and science lovers around the world celebrated a special day: Pi Day.

Pi is equal (平等的) to about 3.14, but the number is endless. It is sometimes written in Greek. With the help of computers, mathematicians have been able to work pi out to over a trillion (万亿) decimal (小数的) places, but there is still no end to the number. This makes pi confusing, even for the most famous scientists and mathematicians.

Pi Day is celebrated around the world on March 14, since how we write this date, 3/14, looks just like the number pi.

For some people, the attraction of Pi Day goes far beyond math and science. Pi shows up throughout popular culture. You can see it in movies, comics, music and more. “In modern movies, any time the filmmaker wants to evoke (唤起) a sense of mystery, often the symbol pi is used,” said David Blatner, a Jewish-American writer of The Joy of Pi.

People also love trying to memorize the digits (数字) of pi and competing against others to see who can remember the most. Many teachers hold class contests to see how many numbers their students can memorize. The Guinness World Record for reciting (背诵) the most digits of pi is held by Lyu Chao of China, who successfully recited pi out to nearly 67,890 decimal places.

Above all, Pi Day is about having fun with the number. People celebrate Pi Day by eating or throwing pie and with fun pi-related games and activities. In 2016, Princeton, New Jersey, held a birthday party for Albert Einstein whose birthday also falls on March 14. There was also a “Walk a Pi Event” where people walked 3.14 miles together. Just like the number itself, the possibilities for Pi Day are truly endless.

根据短文内容,判断句子正(T)、误(F)。
1. With the help of the computers, pi can be worked out with an end to the number.
2. Pi Day is celebrated on March 14th because the date 3/14 looks like the number pi.
3. If the filmmakers want to create a sense of mystery, they often use the symbol pi in the movies.
4. The Guinness World Record for reciting the most digits of pi is held by a Chinese named Lyu Chao.
5. Pi Day is strictly a mathematical celebration without any fun or games about it.
