This is a Chinese classroom. The school is the first English-Chinese primary school in Europe. Half of its courses (课程) are in Chinese. In 2017, the school enrolled (招收) its first 15 students, reported China Daily.
This shows the Chinese language is becoming more popular, reported People’s Daily. Around 30 million people worldwide studied Chinese in 2004. Thirteen years later, that number was about 100 million. According to People’s Daily, British parents think Chinese is “the most useful language” to learn.
At Kensington Wade, however, students aren’t just learning the Chinese language. They’re also learning Chinese culture. Students can study martial arts (武术) and calligraphy (书法).

On March 5, Premier Li Keqiang gave this year’s Government Work Report(政府工作报告). The report tells us what China did in 2021. It also shows us what our country will do in 2022. Here are three things the kids might be interested in. Let’s find out!
Help women and children
I sometimes see news about bad guys tricking(哄骗)children and selling them in other places. The children’s families are so sad. Now the government will do something to help the kids. I hope every kid can live safely and happily.
Happy school life
Because of “the double reduction” policy(双减政策), I am happy to have less homework and fewer after-school classes than before. The good news is that we kids can still enjoy this in 2022. Hooray!
Use the Internet safely

Make connections across an ocean
In January this year, people find a bottle on a beach in West Australia. There was a message (消息) in the bottle. A German sailor (水手) threw (丢) the bottle into the sea in June 1886. That was 132 years ago! It is the world’s oldest-known message in a bottle.
At the time, German sailors used messages in bottles to study ocean currents (洋流). Between 1864 and 1933, they threw thousands of bottles into the sea.
Writing messages in bottles is popular around the world. Some messages are used for scientific (科学的) studies. But most people send out messages in bottles for other reasons. Some want to find pen pals. So they write down some things about themselves. Some people write down their secrets (秘密). They hope the sea can take them away. There are even online messages in bottles. People can send them through WeChat or QQ. The reasons and ways may change, but the idea behind the messages is always the same: People want to make connections (联系) with others. This idea has made sending messages in bottles popular for hundreds of years.

Edinburgh zoo may have to send giant pandas back to China
These days, Chinese people are happy to hear the good news that the Edinburgh zoo in England may have to send the giant pandas Tian Tian and Yang Guang back to China because it’s short of money. During the past nine years, the two pandas have made people happy and let people protect wild animals.

The Zoo has to be closed for three months because of the COVID-19 pandemic. This has caused a lot of money loss for the zoo, which makes most of its money from visitors. Although the zoo is now open again, it has lost about two million dollars since last year.
The two pandas arrived in England on Dec 4th, 2011. They are seen as the symbol of the friendship (友情) between China and the UK. Tian Tian and Yang Guang are so popular with the local people and make more visitors come to local zoos. “This will be a great loss. Our family love seeing the pandas when we often visit the zoo. STUDY Why not keep a diary? Do you keep a diary? Keeping a diary is good for children’s writing skills according to a recent study by a UK organization. The UK charity (慈善机构) National Literacy Trust did a study about children’s diary writing. It studied more than 30, 000 children aged between 8 and 16. The study found that if a child keeps a diary, he or she may be a better writer than others of that age. About 27 percent of children who keep a diary are better writers than others of that age. Only 15.5 percent of children who do not keep a diary are better writers than others of that age. You may ask, “What should I write in a diary?” Jacqueline Wilson gives some advice. Ms. Wilson is a famous children’s writer from the UK. According to her, you can write about people you love, or people you hate. You can also write about your own hopes and dreams. At the beginning of the class, Wang, the first female taikonaut (女航天员) to enter China’s space station, shows their bedrooms and toilet, a kitchen, and the area where they do scientific experiments (实验). In the kitchen, she shows a microwave, a water dispenser (饮水机) and a mini-refrigerator to the students. To answer a Hong Kong student’s question about water, Wang says the water they drink is recycled (循环). There is no difference in taste between regular and recycled water.
