文章大意:本文主要介绍了中国的大运河。

1 . Most people have heard of the Great Wall of China, but not many people outside of China know about the Grand Canal. This man-made waterway—known in China as Da Yunhe is 1, 700 kilometers long and some parts of it are more than 2, 000 years old. It links (连接) the north of China with Hangzhou, a city in the southern part of the country. It’s the longest man-made waterway in the world.

The Grand Canal was built as a way to transport grain (谷物) from the rich land in China’s south to cities in the north. In fact, it’s not one canal, but a system of canals and rivers linked together. It’s still an important part of the transport system in China. Thousands of boats use it every day to transport grain and many other types of things.

Now the Chinese government is doing new work on the Grand Canal. It is making parts of it deeper, so bigger ships can use it. The canal will also help to move water. There is a lot of rain in the south of China, but not as much in the north. The canal will carry millions of liters of water from the south to the north.

The Grand Canal is much less famous than the Great Wall so not very many tourists visit it. But it’s possible to go on a cruise (游船) along some of the oldest parts of the canal. Passengers on these cruises see beautiful parts of China that other visitors don’t see.

根据短文内容,判断句子正 (T)、 误 (F)。
1. The longest man-made waterway in the world is 1, 700 kilometers long.
2. In the past, the most important purpose of the Grand Canal was to move water.
3. The Chinese government is making parts of the Grand Canal deeper.
4. The last paragraph is only about why few people outside China know about the Grand Canal.

文章大意:本文作者主要提醒了我们的手机确实很脏,是时候清洁我们的手机了。

2 . Smartphones have become necessary tools in people’s lives. We carry them everywhere, take them to bed and to the bathroom. And for many people, after waking up in the morning, what they see first is their smartphones.

Most worries about phones usually lie in the danger which is caused by using them while driving, or the bad influence they bring to us, such as making us depend on them too much but hardly care about people around us.

However, have you ever thought about your smartphone may be a factory full of microbes (细菌) and viruses (病毒). A survey made in 2019 found that most people (57 percent) in the UK use their phones on the toilet. Another study found three in four Americans (74.5 percent) use their phones on the toilet. We also eat while using our phones and usually put them down on all kinds of dirty surfaces. All of them can transfer microbes onto our phones. And some of the viruses, like the common cold virus, can live on the phone surfaces for almost a week.

Researchers have shown that people touch their phone hundreds, if not thousands, of times a day. And although many of us often wash our hands after going to the bathroom, cooking, cleaning or gardening, it is almost impossible for us to consider washing our hands after touching our phones.

As a result, it’s not surprising that studies have found our mobile phones are dirtier than toilet seats. Maybe it’s time to think more about keeping mobile phones clean.

3. A study found three in four people in the UK use their phones on the toilet.

3 . Cheating can happen in a lot of different ways. When people cheat, it’s not fair to other people, like the kids who studied for the test or who were the true winners of a game.

Many people like the action of cheating. It makes difficult things seem easy, like getting all the right answers on the test. But it doesn’t solve the problem of not knowing the material and it won’t help on the next test—unless the person cheats again.

Some people lose respect for cheaters and think less of them. The cheaters themselves may feel bad because they know they are not really getting that good grade. And, if they get caught cheating, they will be in difficulty at school, and maybe at home, too.

Some kids cheat because they are busy or lazy and they want to get good grades without spending the time studying. Other kids might feel like they can’t pass the test without cheating. Even when there seems to be a “good reason” for cheating, cheating isn’t a good idea.

If you were sick or upset about something the night before and couldn’t study, it would be better to talk with the teacher about this. And if you don’t have enough time to study for a test because of swim practice, you need to talk with your parents about how to deal with swimming and school.

A kid who thinks cheating is the only way to pass a test needs to talk with the teacher and his or her parents so that they can solve the problem together. Talking about these problems and working them out will help kids feel better than cheating.

根据短文内容,判断句子正(T)、误(F)。
1. When people cheat, it’s fair to other people.
2. Cheating can solve the problem of not knowing the material.
3. If they get caught cheating, they’ll be in trouble at school.
4. The fourth paragraph mainly talks about the reasons why kids cheat.
5. The kids could talk with their parents or teachers to solve the problem.

4 . You may have already forgotten the days when you had to learn how to use chopsticks. Every Chinese kid manages to use them for some time. But chopsticks are not just simple tools to pick up food. They come with their own special rules and traditions.

Generally, people should not make noise with chopsticks. Playing with chopsticks is seen as bad manners, just as playing with forks and knives in a western country is impolite.

Some people believe that chopsticks should not be left standing upright in a bowl. It looks like the incense (香) that Chinese people use to honor the dead. Doing it at the dinner table is believed to bring bad luck.

You should not knock chopsticks on the edge of the bowl either, as beggars (乞丐) do this to ask for food. Parents might get angry if children do this as they don’t want their children to be as poor as beggars in the future.

Besides, chopsticks can also be a great gift. In Chinese, “chopsticks” are known as “kuaizi”, so new couples feel happy to receive chopsticks as a wedding gift. Skilled people paint beautiful pictures on chopsticks to make them look like fine artworks.

Today, even some people from western countries are learning to use chopsticks and like to collect them.

根据短文内容,判断下列句子正(T)误(F)。
1. The passage mainly talks about the history of chopsticks.
2. In the eyes of Chinese people, playing with chopsticks is not polite.
3. The ancient Chinese knocked chopsticks on the edge of the bowl to honor the dead.

5 . A team from an American company called Apptronik think robots should do all the “boring, dirty and dangerous” jobs that humans don’t have to do.

The team showed their latest human-like robot, Apollo, to the world in August this year. Apollo has two round eyes and an expressive mouth. Apollo is about 1.7 meters tall and weighs about 70 kilograms. It can lift 25 kilograms and has been designed to work with humans safely. The robot can work for four hours after being charged.

Some people may feel uneasy about working with a human-like robot, so the team made the robot look more friendly. It has a digital panel that clearly shows the remaining battery life, the work it is doing, when it will finish the work and what it will do next. Apollo can also do some movements, such as turning his head to show where he is going.

At first, the team built Apollo to put it to work in logistics (物流). For example, it can do tiring work inside a warehouse (仓库). But they hope it can do more work in the future. “We are building robots to do all the things that we don’t want to do, and one day even work on the moon, Mars and other planets,” they said.

6 . When you are in China, you should know about how to behave if someone invites you to dinner.

Seating

Seating arrangements (安排) are very important in China. One should first introduce oneself, or let the master do the introduction if unknown to others, and then take a seat according to the master’s arrangement. The seating arrangement is probably the most important part of Chinese dining.

If the guest of honor or the most senior member is not seated, other people are not allowed to be seated. If he hasn’t eaten, others should not begin to eat. When making toasts (敬酒), the first toast is made from the seat of honor.

Consider Others

When helping yourself to the dishes, you should take food first from the plates in front of you rather than those in the middle of the table or in front of others. It’s bad manners to use your chopsticks to search through the food and “dig for treasure”. When finding your favorite dish, you should not eat it up as quickly as possible or put the plate in front of yourself. You should consider others at the table. If there is not much left on a plate and you want to finish it, you should ask others for permission. If they say they don’t want any more, then you can eat.

Concentrate on (专注于) the meal and others at the table. Watching television, using your phone, or carrying on some other activities while having a meal is considered a bad habit.

Elegance (优雅)

It is not good manners to pick up too much food at a time. When eating, you should close your mouth to chew (咀嚼) food well. You should never open your mouth wide or fill it with large pieces of food. Don’t put too much food into your mouth at a time. If there is food around your mouth, use a napkin to wipe it. When chewing food, don’t make noises. Hitting the bowl with chopsticks is impolite, too. Never stick your chopsticks into the food or point at others with your chopsticks.

文章大意:本文主要介绍了教师的态度对学生的表现有重要影响,态度和信念可以改变一个人。
7 . 根据短文内容,判断句子正(T)误(F)。

A famous study was done in a school by a professor (教授) from a university. At the start of the school year, the teachers were given the names of five children. They were told that these five were the most excellent students in the class. But the fact was that these students were only average (普通的), and they were not the best students at all. Well, guess what? At the end of the year, all the five average students scored among the highest in the class.

What made these average students change so much to become top students? The only difference was the change in their teachers’ attitude (态度). Because the teachers believed that these five kids were the top students, they expected more from them. And so these five average students began to believe and expect more from themselves. So they worked harder to do as well as they could.

Do you know why? If you expect the best from people, they’ll usually want to give you their best. A great leader said, “Treat a person just how he appears to be on the outside, and you’ll make him even worse. But treat a person like he’s already a success, and you’ll help make him the best he can be.”

Like the true story of 7-year-old Johnny, his teacher got so angry with him that one day she said,“Johnny, you’re the naughtiest (淘气的) boy in this class. I’m sure you’ll never change.” The next year Johnny had a new teacher. And on the first day of class, she met with Johnny after school and said, “Johnny, I’ve heard a lot about you! But do you know that I don’t believe a word of it.” And every day after that, this new teacher treated Johnny as if he was one of the smartest students even when Johnny did naughty things. Later on, Johnny became a school leader. Because that’s the power of our belief (信仰) and attitude toward children.

1. The professor started his research by telling the teachers that the five students were the best in the class.
2. The five average students became top students because of the teachers’ hard work.
3. In our life, if we want a person to be better, we have to hit him often.
4. The writer told us the story of 7-year-old Johnny to show the importance of encouragement.
5. The passage mainly tells us attitude and belief can change a person.
