2 . Very hot weather is common in many parts of the world. Although hot weather just makes most people hot, it can cause medical problems and death.

Floods, storms and other terrible natural events kill thousands of people every year. And we hear much about them in news reports. We generally hear little about heat (热), which experts say may be nature’s most dangerous killer.

Health experts say that since the year 1900, very hot weather has killed more people in the United States than any other natural event. One year—the unusually hot summer of 1980 heat caused about 1,700 deaths in the United States. In 1955, more than 600 people died in another heat wave in one city —Chicago, Illinois.

Besides drinking lots of cool water, doctors say there are some other things to do to protect against the health dangers of heat. Stay out of the sun, if possible. Wear loose and light-colored clothes. Wear a hat while in the sun. Eat fewer hot and heavy foods. And, rest more often.

Health experts say these simple steps can prevent the dangerous health problems caused by heat. They will prevent sickness, help you feel better and may even save your life.

A Letter From 2070
Hi, this is the year 2070. I have just turned 50, but I look like a person of 85. Because I don’t have enough water to drink. I’m afraid I don’t have much time left to live. I’m already one of the oldest people in this society.
I remember when I was five years old. Everything was very different. There were lots of trees in the parks. I could enjoy a shower for half an hour. At that time, women had beautiful hair. Now we have to shave our heads to keep them clean without the use of water.
I remember there were “Save Water” warnings(警告)in many places, but nobody paid attention. We believed water would last forever. Now, all the rivers and lakes are either dry or polluted. Water is much more expensive than gold. In the past, doctors suggested adults drink eight glasses of water a day. Now days, I am only allowed half a glass. People die young.
When my son asks me about my childhood. I tell him about how pleasant it was to fish in the rivers and how healthy people were. When he asks, “Why is there no clean water now?” I feel very sorry. I belong to a person who turned a blind eye to all the warnings.
I wish this letter could travel back in time and that it would make people living in the 2020s truly understand the importance of saving water.
       Best, Natalie

However, research results have painted a rather different picture. The post-1990s generation is independent, strong-minded and hardworking, according to a Peking University report.

When it comes to learning and working, over 60% think their own interests are more important than others’ opinions.

Most of them see successful businessmen as their idols(偶像). But not because they are rich. Their strong belief in themselves and never-give-up spirit have won the hearts of the generation, the report said.

In addition, the post-1990s generation has a strong sense of social responsibility (责任). Many of them have taken part in volunteer work. They also try to be responsible by studying hard and behaving(表现得体)online.

In the UK, many of the post-1990s generation have given up the drinking habits that the past generations had. Most of them now have healthier hobbies, such as knotting(编织)and cooking.

“It’s hard to find time for a hobby if you are going out drinking,” Kate Payne, author of The Hip Girl’s Guide to Homemaking, told the Telegraph.

Changes in their hobbies have also helped them learn good manners. The 2013 Youth Justice Statistics report in the UK showed that young people are less rude and noisy in public.

However, a generation’s traits (特征) don’t belong to (属于) every single person in it. “It’s what you do that can make you the kind of person you want to be,” said Cheng Dongfeng.

Director of the youth ideological and moral education(思想道德)center of West Anhui University.
