What do you eat for lunch? Lunch food may be different in different countries. Let’s take a look around the world to see people’s lunch.

During workdays, Americans eat a quick lunch like a sandwich, or something from the night before. Children bring packed lunches to school. Adults may leave work to go out for a quick lunch. They may also choose sandwiches or hamburgers, and sometimes salad.

Japanese often eat rice, noodles, seafood and beef in bowls or bento (便当) boxes. School children and adults take their lunch to their working places with bento boxes. Miso soup is popular.

Lunch in Thailand is usually noodles. There are many ways to cook noodles. One popular dish is thin rice noodles, tofu and prawns. Another way to eat rice noodles is with meat, vegetables and thick gravy (肉汁).

7 . Everyone likes talking about weather. When people meet, they usually say something like “Isn’t it a nice day?” or “Do you think it will rain?”

Different people often want different weather. When a farmer needs water, he hopes it will rain. When people want to take a trip, they hope it will be sunny soon.

How will be the weather? Many people think they can tell (判断) it. But they often have different ideas. Some may say, “It’s cloudy in the east. It will rain tomorrow.” But others may say, “No, it will be sunny tomorrow.” So people like the weather report (报告). It sometimes makes mistakes (错误). Still, it can tell many things about the weather.

8 . Teachers help us be good students and people. So we should thank them for their hard work. In China, we have Teachers' Day on Sept 10th. On that day, we say thanks to our teachers and sometimes give them small gifts. But how do US students thank their teachers? US schools have a whole week in May to appreciate their teachers! Teacher Appreciate Day is on Tuesday of that week. They have parties with gifts and snacks that week. There are also signs everywhere to show their thanks for teachers. US students like to give small gifts to their teachers, and their teachers love getting thank-you notes from their students. Teachers also like getting arts and crafts or trinkets (小饰品) from students. Should we say thanks to our teachers only on Teachers' Day? No. We should thank our teachers all the time. Always show your love to your teachers. It helps them do a good job.

9 . The Beijing National Stadium –the Bird’s Nest was the main stadium for the 2008 Summer Olympics. The stadium had 100, 000 seats for people during the Olympics. It is 330 meters long by 220 meters wide, and is 69.2 meters tall. It covers an area of 250,000 square meters. The stadium cost up to 3.5 billion yuan. All 110,000 tons of steel were made in China, making the stadium the largest steel structure (结构) in the world. The construction stared in March 2004. Beijing National Stadium officially opened at a ceremony on June 28, 2008.

The eastern and western stands of Beijing National Stadium are higher than northern and southern stands, in order to make people watch matches more clearly. It hosted the Opening and Closing Ceremonies, athletic events, and football final of the 2008 Summer Olympic, from August 8 to August 24, 2008. The stadium also hosted the Opening and Closing ceremonies and athletic events of the 2008 Summer Paralympics (残奥会) from September 6 to September 17, 2008. The stadium’s appearance is wonderful. It looks almost like a bird’s nest. It became a great landmark for the Olympics of 2008. This has been the most important public space in Beijing.

10 . In America, when people say "man's best friend", they don't mean another person. Instead, they are talking about a lovely animal: a dog! These words show the friendship between people and animals. Dogs and other pets can give joy to people's lives. Some people think of their pets as their children. A few even leave all their money to their pets when they die!

Animals can help people, too. Dogs can be taught to be the "eyes" for a blind person or "ears" for a deaf person. Scientists have found that pets help people live longer! They make people happier, too. Because of that, animals are brought into hospitals for "patients".

Americans hold "Be Kind to Animals Week" the first week of May. Pet shows are held during the week. Even if you don't live in America, you, too, can do this. How? First, think about how animals make your life richer. If you have a pet, take more time this week to play with it. Remember to give it delicious food.

If you don't have a pet, be kind to animals around you. For example, if you see a street dog, don't kick it or throw things at it. Instead, just leave it alone, or better yet, make friends with it. If others around you do bad things to an animal, try to speak up. As people, we must protect animals who can't speak for themselves.
