2 . Everyone likes talking about weather. When people meet, they usually say something like “Isn’t it a nice day?” or “Do you think it will rain?”

Different people often want different weather. When a farmer needs water, he hopes it will rain. When people want to take a trip, they hope it will be sunny soon.

How will be the weather? Many people think they can tell (判断) it. But they often have different ideas. Some may say, “It’s cloudy in the east. It will rain tomorrow.” But others may say, “No, it will be sunny tomorrow.” So people like the weather report (报告). It sometimes makes mistakes (错误). Still, it can tell many things about the weather.

3 . The Beijing National Stadium –the Bird’s Nest was the main stadium for the 2008 Summer Olympics. The stadium had 100, 000 seats for people during the Olympics. It is 330 meters long by 220 meters wide, and is 69.2 meters tall. It covers an area of 250,000 square meters. The stadium cost up to 3.5 billion yuan. All 110,000 tons of steel were made in China, making the stadium the largest steel structure (结构) in the world. The construction stared in March 2004. Beijing National Stadium officially opened at a ceremony on June 28, 2008.

The eastern and western stands of Beijing National Stadium are higher than northern and southern stands, in order to make people watch matches more clearly. It hosted the Opening and Closing Ceremonies, athletic events, and football final of the 2008 Summer Olympic, from August 8 to August 24, 2008. The stadium also hosted the Opening and Closing ceremonies and athletic events of the 2008 Summer Paralympics (残奥会) from September 6 to September 17, 2008. The stadium’s appearance is wonderful. It looks almost like a bird’s nest. It became a great landmark for the Olympics of 2008. This has been the most important public space in Beijing.

4 . In America, when people say "man's best friend", they don't mean another person. Instead, they are talking about a lovely animal: a dog! These words show the friendship between people and animals. Dogs and other pets can give joy to people's lives. Some people think of their pets as their children. A few even leave all their money to their pets when they die!

Animals can help people, too. Dogs can be taught to be the "eyes" for a blind person or "ears" for a deaf person. Scientists have found that pets help people live longer! They make people happier, too. Because of that, animals are brought into hospitals for "patients".

Americans hold "Be Kind to Animals Week" the first week of May. Pet shows are held during the week. Even if you don't live in America, you, too, can do this. How? First, think about how animals make your life richer. If you have a pet, take more time this week to play with it. Remember to give it delicious food.

If you don't have a pet, be kind to animals around you. For example, if you see a street dog, don't kick it or throw things at it. Instead, just leave it alone, or better yet, make friends with it. If others around you do bad things to an animal, try to speak up. As people, we must protect animals who can't speak for themselves.

5 . Good evening, ladies and gentlemen, I'm Roy Darby, and this is my show. This is a television show for all families, and I know you'll enjoy it. 

Let's start with a story. Once there was a proud pig on a farm. He thought he was the  most important of all the animals on the farm. But it was not enough that he himself thought this: he had to be sure that other animals thought it, too. So he went up to a chicken and asked, "Who is the most important animal on the farm?" The chicken answered, "You are, Mr. Pig." Then he asked a dog, and he got the same reply. 

Next, he asked a cow. When the cow seemed uncertained of the right answer, the pig looked angry, and showed his teeth, "Oh, you are, of course, Mr. Pig." said the cow. "Of course," the pig said, "there is no doubt about it." 

At last the pig asked a big horse the same question. The horse lifted one foot, rolled the pig over and placed his foot on the pig's head. "I think you know the answer now." said the horse.

6 . March 29 is Earth Day. Everyone on earth should care about and protect the earth!

The earth has warmed by about 1（华氏度） over the past 100 years, but why and how? Well, scientists are not quite sure. Maybe the earth gets warmer and warmer on its own. But many scientists say that people are doing many things which make the earth warmer.

First, greenhouse effect （温室效应） is a very important reason for the change of the earth. People give out too much energy into the air every year. It makes the earth warmer. Climate （气候） change is another important reason. Sometimes it becomes too hot and sometimes too cold. Sometimes there is too much rain and sometimes too little. The change of the climate makes the earth warmer. In turn, the warmth of the earth changes the climate, too.

When the earth becomes warmer, there may be more rain and a rise in sea level. It will affect the growth of plants, animals and people. On a Pacific island,100 people have to move to higher ground because the sea is rising. These people can no longer live on the coast. Before that, two islands without people went underwater in 1999.Scientists say that the seas can rise by nearly one metre by 2100.

People can affect the earth’s air, land and water. As for us, we can do many things to protect the earth. For example, we can use fridges less. We can tell more people about protecting the earth.

Doctor Seuss was born in 1904. By the middle 1950s, he had become one of the best-loved and most successful children’s book writers in the world. His books are very popular with young readers. They enjoyed the invented words and the pictures of unusual funny animals and plants.

In 1954, Life magazine published a report about school children who could not read. The report said many children’s books were not interesting. Doctor Seuss strongly hoped to help children and decided to write books that were interesting and easy to read. He used words with the same ending sound, like fish and wish. He did not receive training in art. Yet, he drew the pictures for most of his books.

In 1957, Dr Seuss wrote The Cat in the Hat. He used less than 230 words to write the book and even a six-year-old should be able to read it. It was a fun story and easy to read. Children loved it. Their parents loved it, too. Today it is still one of the stories they like best. The success of The Cat in the Hat made him want to write more books for children. In 1960, he wrote a book using less than fifty words. The book is called Green Eggs and Ham.

In 1984, Doctor Seuss won a Pulitzer Prize. He was honored for the education and enjoyment his books provided American children and their parents.

He died at the age of 87, but his influence remains. Millions of his books have been sold world wide. People say his books helped change the way American children learned to read. Yet, his books are loved by people of all ages. Doctor Seuss once said, "I do not write for children. I write for people."

8 . Jack had to deliver the coconuts（送椰子）to the home of a businessman, Sam. He started early in the morning, got the coconuts ready, and put all of them into large baskets. He then fastened the baskets to the back of his horse. Just as Jack started on the road to Sam's house, he saw a young boy.

‘How long will it take to reach Sam's house? 'asked Jack.

‘If you go slowly, 'said the boy, ‘you will be there very soon. But if you go very fast, you will get there tomorrow. 'What a foolish boy! ” thought Jack, ‘That boy is not very clever! ". Then Jack began to hurry down the road. As he pulled the horse along at a fast speed, coconuts began to fall out of the baskets.

Jack had to stop to pick up the coconuts and put them on the horse's back again.

‘Now I have lost time, Jack thought, ‘I have to hurry to make up for（弥补）the lost time. ' More coconuts fell off the top of the full baskets. The more Jack tried to hurry, the more coconuts fell and rolled away.

The sun began to set, and Jack saw Sam's house at the top of the hill. He began to hurry once more. It made the horse fall down. The coconuts again flew out of the baskets and rolled onto the ground. This time, the sun really set.

9 . Gina and Jenny are sisters. Gina is 13 and Jenny is 10. Look! This is a photo of their room In the room, you can see their things, The bookcase is brown. Some books and tapes are in it. Can you see the beds? Gina's bed is tidy, but Jenny' s is not. Her things are everywhere. A ruler, a yellow schoolbag and her keys are on the bed. They have a clock and a radio. They are on the desk. Where is Gina's schoolbag? It's under the chair. Can you see a black dog? It's on the sofa. It is Duoduo.

10 . We have twenty minutes’ break time after the second class in the morning.   Look!   Most of us are playing during the break time. Some students are on the playground(操场). They are playing basketball. Oh! A boy is running with the ball.   And another is stopping(阻止) him. They look so cool. And there are some girls watching the game. Some students are in the classroom. They are talking.   A few of them are reading and doing homework. Look! A girl is looking at the birds in the tree in front of the classroom. She must be thinking of something interesting because she is smiling(微笑).

What are the teachers doing? Some of them are working in the office. And some are talking with students. Everyone is doing his or her things, busy but happy!
