They move around the screen at high speed. We experience animation in so many different forms, from the cartoons on our TVs to the emojis(表情符号) on our smartphones. But animation is nothing new. In fact, people have been trying to bring images to life for hundreds of years.
The earliest animation began in the seventeenth century with an equipment called the magic lantern. In the nineteenth century, other equipments were developed that created movement when viewers turned them. By the beginning of the twentieth century, artists around the world were developing short animated films using hand - drawn animation. The painter would create thousands of drawings for only one carton!
Through the twentieth century, animators continued to develop different methods. By the 1980s, digital animation was being developed. It quickly took over traditional methods. Because it allowed cartoons to be produced in less time and with less money. Today advanced digital animation methods aren't just used in cartoons or video games, but also to create special effects in films. 5 . Getting electricity has always been a problem for the 173 people living in Nuevo Saposoa, a small village in Peru, South America. However, things went from bad to worse in March 2016 after heavy rains damaged the only power cables(电力电缆)in the area. The villagers were forced to use oil lamps, which are not only expensive but also dangerous because of the harmful gases they produce.
Luckily, researchers at the University of Technology(UT)in Lima, Peru heard about their problem and found a wonderful solution. They made a lamp that can be powered by plants and soil, both of which can be easily found in the Amazonian rainforest where the village lies. The lamp takes energy from a plant growing in a wooden box and uses it to light up an LED light bulb.
While that may sound amazing and even impossible, the science behind the idea is quite simple. As plants create their food(using the sun’s energy, water and chemicals from the soil), they also produce waste which they return to the soil. Tiny animals in the soil eat this waste which produces electrons—the building blocks of electrical energy. The UT team put special sticks inside the soil to capture(获取)the energy and keep it in the lamp’s batteries for later use. The researchers say a single charge can power a 50-watt LED light for two hours-enough time for local villagers to get their evening work done.
The university gave ten Plant Lamps to the villagers of Nuevo Saposoa in October 2016. So far, they have been a huge success! Elmer Ramirez, the UT professor who invented the lamp, believes the Plant Lamp can help improve the lives of many people, especially small rainforest communities, 42% of whom have no electricity.

One day, in a foreign language class, Mr. Black gave us a lesson. He wanted us to be active in class, so he asked us some questions, but no one answered. “Let me tell you a story first,” he said.
“When I came to the United States to study, the university often invited famous people to make speeches. Before the beginning of every speech, I found an interesting thing. The students around me always took a cardboard folded(折叠的)in half, wrote their names in bold(粗体)with the most eye-catching color, and then placed the cardboard on the seat. So when the speaker needed the answers from the students, he could see and call a listener’s name directly.”
“I couldn’t understand that. My classmate told me the speakers were all top people who meant chances. When your answer was to their surprise, it meant they might give you more chances. In fact, I really saw a few students got great chances because of that.”

Lifeguard
From high up in the sky, specially trained pigeons can find orange life jackets in the ocean. Sometimes it is difficult for humans to find people lost at sea, especially when the weather is bad. However, pigeons can fly quickly over a large area of water to look for people.
Spy
Many years ago, carrier pigeons were used to help our country during war(战争)—spy pigeons had small cameras that were tied to their feet. As a pigeon flew over enemy(敌人)land, the camera took photos of the land below. This would allow our soldiers to see where the enemies were and what they were doing.

9 . Do you often dial others' mobile phone number? Do you know China's mobile phone has 11 digits, Why is this?
The 11 digits can be divided into three parts. Each part has a different meaning. The first three numbers tell you which mobile phone service provider you are using. For example, 135 is for China Mobile Communications Corporation(中国移动)and 188 is for China Unicom(中国联通).The fourth to the seventh digits tell you which area the number is registered(注册)in .And the last four digits are random(随机的).
The main reason for using 11 digits is that we have the largest population in the world. We once had 10 numbers. But as our population grew, there weren't enough numbers for us to use. So we began to use 11 digits starting from 1999.
Eleven digits can be used to make billions of mobile phone numbers. That's enough for each person to have seven or eight numbers to use.
What's more, mobile phone numbers can be recycled. Usually, the service provider will reuse a canceled(取消的)number after three to six months. If you call a number that you haven't contacted for a long time, you may find that its owner has changed.
Besides China, Britain and Japan also use 11-digit mobile phone numbers. But their numbers always start with 0. So they cannot create as many numbers as we can. Countries like the United States, Australia and India use phone numbers with 10 digits. Canada's mobile phone numbers are perhaps the world’s shortest; they use seven digits.
