Shadow puppets are made of hard leather(皮革). The leather is cut out in the shape of a person, an animal or an object. Each puppet is painted in bright colors and put on a stick. Different colors are used to show good and bad of person in the drama. Some puppets have movable arms and legs. They’re shown on the white screen through the light.

One area of change is television. Some changes have been improvements. Some changes, however, have been problems.
When I started school, most families in my village didn’t have a television. Televisions were beginning to get popular. They were new and expensive. My father saved money for a whole year and bought a small black and white set. I still remember watching my favorite cartoon on this fascinating machine. I even invited all my friends over. That was exciting!
Now. televisions have come to every home in my village, and many families own more than one television. The pictures are in full color and far clearer. The screens are so wonderful that they are more like those of movies. The variety and quantity(种类和数量)of programs have increased greatly, too. There are over one hundred channels(频道) available. As for the programs, there are many fine educational shows. On the other hand, there is a lot of rubbish, things that parents don’t want their kids to watch. At the end of the year, she said that she was moving to Florida, and I was sad. We gave our addresses to each other and became pen pals. I could tell her anything, and she treated me with respect (尊重) even though I was a teenager. In Florida, Mrs. Freeman became a realtor (房地产经纪人) and was very busy, but she always found time to write letters to me. One summer holiday, Mrs. Freeman invited me to visit her in a letter. I missed her very much so I accepted her offer. I spent three weeks with her in Florida, excited to do anything from washing dishes to visiting museums with her. Her love of music and creative writing encouraged me to go on with my dream.
Two years later, she surprised me by coming to my high school graduation ceremony(毕业典礼). Later that year, when I arrived at her house, I hoped to talk to her about my future plans, but instead she was in hospital. I went to the hospital and was shocked to find that she was seriously ill. 10 . Albert Einstein and Wolfgang Mozart are possibly the two most famous examples of people who are geniuses (天才). But unlike Mozart, Einstein wasn’t very talented as a kid. Born in Germany in 1879, he was slow to learn to speak, and he was a normal student at school. He was interested in math and science, but he liked to study at home better. Later he studied to be a teacher, but he didn’t find a job in a school and for some years, he was an office worker. A lot of Einstein’s most famous ideas were the result of study in his free time, when he also played the violin to relax.
From 1908, he was a university teacher for many years, first in Europe and then in the US. He was the winner of the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1921. He was famous for the theory of relativity (相对论), but only several scientists could understand it. His biggest dream was to find one explanation for the basic (基础的) ideas in physics but he died before this was possible.
As a famous scientist, Einstein got letters from people around the world. Some of the letters were from children and he always answered them. One letter was from a girl with math problems at school. “Do not worry about your difficulties in math” was his answer. “I can tell you that mine are still greater.”
